Chapter 146 - 145: Gift
Leo Grant was mortified. ’Was his grandfather really on his side? Does he think my path isn’t rough enough that he needs to throw a few nails on it?’
Sure enough, hearing this, Grandpa Lowell was about to fly into a rage.
Leo Grant spoke up just in time, "Hello, Grandpa Lowell. Hello, Grandma Lowell."
He then greeted the other elders one by one.
Hearing how Leo addressed him, Grandpa Lowell’s expression softened slightly, but not by much.
"Hmph, you may be more perceptive than your grandfather, but that doesn’t mean I like you."
"Alright, now. Why are you making things difficult for a child at your age?" Grandma Lowell swatted him irritably before smiling at Leo Grant.
"You young people have more in common to talk about. Go on and have fun. Let Nola keep you company."
Leo Grant’s eyes lit up. He stepped forward and took Yvonne Lowell’s hand. "Yes, thank you, Grandma Lowell."
"Ahem, let’s all go together," Caleb Lowell cut in.
"Yeah, we’re all young people. Count me in," Harrison Lowell added.
Grandma Lowell said lightly, "All of you, stop right there."
It was as if everyone’s feet were instantly welded to the floor; they didn’t dare move an inch.
Using her teacup as a shield, Grandma Lowell’s lips curled into a satisfied smile.
’Heh, you little rascals. Still think you can challenge me? After all these years, haven’t you figured out who’s at the top of the Lowell family’s food chain?’
’I don’t get what these old coots are on about. These two kids are a perfect match; I’m very optimistic about them.’
’In the words of the younger generation, it’s called... what was it again? Shipping a CP.’
’And I was the one who gave the cheongsam to Nola when she was doing her makeup today. No matter how resourceful the Grant boy is, he couldn’t possibly have found a matching outfit in such a short time.’
’This proves they’re on the same wavelength. How is this not a kind of destiny?’
’Heh heh, the couple I ship is having a secret sweet moment!!’
’If my dear old friend were still around, she would definitely be shipping them with me.’
’What a pity. The good die young.’
...
Leo Grant led Yvonne Lowell by the hand to the other side of the room.
Sensing numerous gossiping gazes, Leo Grant looked up, and the coldness in his eyes made the guests sheepishly turn their heads away.
’So what if we can’t look? What’s the big deal? Isn’t it just a relationship?’
’Haven’t we been in one before?! Alright, fine, we’ve never been in one this impressive.’
’Not allowed to look? Fine, we’ll look secretly!’
Yvonne Lowell found it rather amusing. "What are you doing?"
"They’re looking at you." Leo Grant turned his head back, his face instantly morphing into a pitiful expression.
Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "Couldn’t they be looking at you?"
"That’s not allowed either. I’m yours, you can’t let them look at me. You have to protect me."
Yvonne Lowell reached out and pinched his cheek. "Alright, I’ll protect you."
The secretly watching guests: ’Who in the world said you can’t provoke a tiger? You can pinch the Living Yama’s face, so why can’t you provoke a tiger?!’
Only when she had pinched to her heart’s content did Leo Grant take her hand down and hold it in his own.
Stroking the Buddha Beads on her wrist, his tone was a little smug. "They’re so beautiful. Anyone can tell they’re a matching couple’s set."
Yvonne Lowell looked at the Buddha Beads, which were identical in material and pattern but clearly different in bead and overall size, and said teasingly,
"Why do they look more like a parent-child set to me?"
A hint of helpless laughter flashed in Leo Grant’s eyes. ’Is my girlfriend completely immune to romance?!’
He squeezed her fingers firmly. "This is a couple’s set! If you want a parent-child set, that’s fine too, but we’ll probably have to wait a few years."
Although Yvonne Lowell would be of legal age after her birthday this year, the Lowell Family certainly wouldn’t let her go so soon.
The road ahead was long and winding, and this Grant would have to search high and low.
Yvonne Lowell shot him a look. "President Grant, you’re thinking a little too far ahead."
DING-DONG
Yvonne Lowell took her phone out of her handbag. Seeing the message on the screen, she raised her eyebrows.
She glanced around and waved to Adrian Lowell, who wasn’t far from them. "Genevieve."
"Sister, you were looking for me." Adrian Lowell strode over in just a few steps, deliberately squeezing himself between the two of them.
Leo Grant’s face turned ashen for a second before he silently moved to Yvonne Lowell’s other side.
’He’s my future brother-in-law. My actual brother-in-law. I can’t afford to offend him before the wedding.’
Yvonne Lowell reached out and straightened the suit he was wearing. "The gift I prepared has arrived. Want to go out and see it?"
"Yes!" Adrian Lowell nodded frantically.
Just as Yvonne Lowell was about to speak, she felt a tug on her wrist.
Turning back, she saw Leo Grant with his head slightly bowed, lips pursed. "Can I come see it too?"
Adrian Lowell was stunned. ’Is this the Brother Grant I know? Is he really not some unparalleled white lotus!? Besides, we never said he couldn’t come, so what’s with the act!? ARGH!!’
Yvonne Lowell smiled. "Of course you can. Let’s go."
The three of them started walking towards the exit. As they passed her other brothers, Adrian Lowell didn’t forget to show off.
And so, the party of three became a party of thirteen by the time they reached the entrance.
Fortunately, the other guests didn’t overhear. If everyone had followed along, the scene would have been unimaginable.
When they reached the entrance, everyone immediately noticed the incongruous large truck and felt a bit confused.
The next second, they saw the driver hand something that looked like a remote control to Yvonne Lowell. "Lowell."
Yvonne Lowell placed the remote in Adrian Lowell’s hand and smiled. "Go on, unwrap your present."
Adrian Lowell was a little dazed. He looked at her, then at the remote in his hand, and pressed the red button.
The gull-wing cargo box of the truck opened, revealing a large glass box inside.
Everyone was rather surprised. Even some guests who were about to enter stopped in their tracks to stand and watch from the side.
Inside the cargo bay sat a pearl-white Pagani supercar, adorned with many balloons and ribbons.
Two vertical banners hung next to the sports car, with large, flamboyant characters written on them:
At eighteen, you come of age to ride the wind; a youth unburdened by worry or fear.
If anyone had a sharp eye, they might have noticed the car’s license plate number: Jing A · LYJ18
Adrian Lowell’s lips moved a few times. "Sister, this..."
Yvonne Lowell led him to the car and said softly, "I noticed a while ago that whenever you see the supercars in the garage, you get glued to the spot. Now that you’re eighteen, you can finally get your driver’s license and drive one yourself."
"I know you’ll own many more, cooler supercars in the future, but it’s enough that the first one in your life was a gift from me."
"And this car’s name is Utopia, which symbolizes a yearning for a better world. So, your sister hopes that our Genevieve, in the days to come, can find a Utopia that is uniquely your own."
After Yvonne Lowell finished speaking, she noticed Adrian Lowell’s eyes were already starting to turn red.
She instinctively wanted to ruffle his hair, but then remembered he had his hair styled, so she changed course and patted his shoulder instead.
"Our Genevieve has grown up. From now on, do whatever you want to do. On the condition that it’s the right thing, of course. Anything illegal, criminal, or against moral ethics is absolutely forbidden."
"You don’t just have our family behind you; you have me, too. So, don’t be afraid of failure. We will give you a sufficient margin for trial and error."
"Besides, your sister—me—is rich and powerful. I can cover for you."
Tears were about to stream down Adrian Lowell’s face, but her last sentence made him laugh.
"Sister, you’re only a year and a half older than me."
