The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered

Chapter 144 - 143: Is It Too Much to Ask for a Chance to Be a Kept Man?

Doctor Octopus was also a rare genius in this field, but he later vanished without a trace. They tried to find him through many channels, but to no avail, and eventually had to let the matter drop.

But even now, five years later, the blueprints Doctor Octopus sold them were still considered cutting-edge designs, ahead of the entire industry.

He never would have imagined that Doctor Octopus and Lila, the two geniuses he had sought so desperately but could never attain, were both his darling girlfriend.

’That’s right,’ he thought. ’They’re all mine.’

Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "Oh, right. I might have forgotten to tell you. I was a double major in Economics and Weapons Manufacturing at Loster."

"My work as Doctor Octopus was really just a trial run. When I saw the international response was decent, I got the idea to go solo. I changed my name to Lila and, while I was at it, founded LY."

Leo Grant was left speechless, a hint of playful grievance in his voice. "A trial run? Decent response? Founded it while you were at it? Do you have any idea how much jealousy you’re stoking when you talk like that?"

Whether it was LY or the names of those two weapons designers, any single one of them was enough to leave people in awe. Only she could mention them so casually.

"I know," Yvonne Lowell said with a shrug, her tone teasing. "That’s why I’m only telling you, Master G."

After all, the head of G Group and its chief weapons designer, G, was also a world-renowned figure. He was certainly no less impressive than she was.

Leo Grant paused for a moment, then chuckled. "What Master G? You should be calling me little G. My reputation doesn’t even rank compared to Doctor Octopus and Lila."

Yvonne Lowell turned her head and shot him a look that said, ’Do you actually believe a word you’re saying?’

Leo Grant’s face showed no trace of guilt. Instead, he let out a soft sigh.

"Looks like I’ll have to keep working hard, or people will say I’m not good enough for you. But since my girlfriend is so amazing, it’s not too much to ask for a chance to be a kept man, is it?"

Yvonne Lowell’s brow quirked. She reached out and playfully scratched his chin.

"The sole heir and prince of the Grant Family begging to be kept, willing to become a pretty boy for love? If word of this got out, aren’t you afraid Grandpa Grant would grab his cane and give you a couple of whacks?"

"Grandpa? He wouldn’t. In fact, he’d praise me for a job well done. He’d probably even prepare a dowry for me and have me marry into your family on the spot."

Leo Grant said this with a completely straight face, because he knew his grandfather was absolutely the type of person to do something like that.

They couldn’t seal a childhood engagement nineteen years ago, so what was wrong with having his grandson marry into her family nineteen years later?

Yvonne Lowell laughed at his words. "Alright, then. I’ll give you a chance to mooch off me. The free meals at my house are guaranteed to be soft, sweet, and plentiful."

"In that case, I’d better work hard to keep my looks. My face and body can’t decline, or I’m afraid I won’t be able to hold on to this golden thigh of yours."

Leo Grant smiled, his arm around hers tightening unconsciously.

Yvonne Lowell patted his head. "Relax. This golden thigh requires an admission ticket, and you’re the only one who has one."

The two chatted for a few more moments before going their separate ways.

Of course, that’s assuming one ignored the utterly abandoned look on a certain Mr. Grant’s face.

...

「Time flew by, and soon, the day of Adrian Lowell’s coming-of-age ceremony arrived.」

Although the Lowell Family was prominent and distinguished, they were usually quite low-key, rarely attending or hosting banquets.

The only exceptions were for the milestone birthdays of the two elders and the coming-of-age ceremonies for the family’s children, which were always celebrated in grand style.

The Lowell Family placed great importance on the younger generation’s coming-of-age ceremonies. Turning eighteen signified growth, and it also meant the elders could let go and allow the youngsters to explore the wider world for themselves.

Well... there was also Yvonne Lowell’s homecoming banquet.

And that banquet had been, arguably, the grandest of them all.

Furthermore, the Lowell Family’s invitations came with a strict rule: only the invited individual and their family members could attend.

If anyone tried to transfer their invitation or bring an uninvited guest, that party and their entire group would be collectively screwed.

Then again, no one was foolish enough to actually try and transfer an invitation.

Therefore, whenever news spread that the Lowell Family was hosting a banquet, other families would wait with bated breath, praying they were on the guest list.

Receiving an invitation was not only a great honor, but it was also an opportunity to find new business partners, connect with families a tier above their own, and thereby expand their commercial circle.

The Lowell family had all returned to the ancestral residence a few days prior to prepare for the banquet.

Today, everyone rose bright and early to begin the ritual proceedings of the coming-of-age ceremony.

Adrian Lowell first had to bathe and put on new clothes.

Next, he went to the ancestral hall, where he knelt to offer incense and recite the family rules and ancestral teachings.

Then, all the elders took turns offering him their guidance and blessings.

Finally, Adrian Lowell received the hair binding gold crown from Grandpa Lowell, marking the completion of the ceremony.

Yvonne Lowell had previously learned from her grandmother that the Lowell lineage had produced several Prime Ministers.

That was why the family still observed many customs passed down from that era, such as this very ceremony.

However, many of the more elaborate formalities had been trimmed down. For one, they were a hassle to organize, and for another, very few boys wore their hair long these days.

So, simply receiving the ceremonial crown from an elder was enough to complete this modern "capping ceremony."

Back in the main building, Wendy Sutton was the first to present her gift. She handed it to Adrian Lowell and patted his shoulder.

"This is your coming-of-age gift from your uncle and me. Happy 18th birthday to our dear Adrian. May you live without a worry in your heart, and may all your wishes come true."

"Thank you, Uncle. Thank you, Aunt." Adrian Lowell grinned as he accepted the property deed.

His other older brothers also presented their gifts one by one: a watch, limited-edition sneakers, another house, and collectible figurines.

Nina Jennings’s gift was gold bars—eighteen of them. Yes, you read that right. A total of eighteen large, 500-gram gold bars.

When Adrian Lowell opened the box, he was nearly blinded by the shine.

Then there was Zachary Jacobs, who gifted him a dozen large, discontinued LEGO sets.

Normally, it would have been the perfect gift, but that idiot had packed them in a large box and covered the top with a pile of SAT prep books, Princeton Review guides, and AP test workbooks...

If Adrian Lowell hadn’t refused to believe it and dug a little deeper to find the real gift, he probably would have held a grudge against Zachary Jacobs for the rest of his life.

Adrian Lowell: I will not say another word until my lawyer is present.

Yvonne Lowell’s lips curled into a smile. ’Looks like no one else got him the same gift as me. Nice.’

After everyone had given their presents, all eyes turned in unison to Yvonne Lowell.

Harrison Lowell: "Where’s your gift?"

Zachary Jacobs: "Yeah, where’s your gift?"

Adrian Lowell didn’t say anything, but his eyes held a subtle hint of expectation.

Yvonne Lowell patted his head. "Don’t be impatient. I can only give you mine this afternoon. It’s still on its way."
