Chapter 50— The Sovereign’s Court.
Chapter 50— The Sovereign’s Court.
The Grand Ballroom, once a sanctuary of aristocratic excess, had transformed into an open-air courtroom of pure terror.
High chandeliers pulsed with an ominous violet radiance, casting long, jagged shadows across the hundreds of dukes, countesses, and high commanders trapped below. Runic barriers burned crimson over the heavy oak exits, sealing the perimeter tighter than a dragon’s lair.
On the high central balcony, Kaelen stood like a silent deity of execution.
Beside him, Lyra’s holy blade shimmered with brilliant silver mana, while Elena’s pristine presence proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Silverwing lineage had not been extinguished.
"Guards! Kill them!" Marquis Vance shrieked, his polished composure completely shattering into ugly, panicked fury. He pointed a trembling, ring-adorned finger toward the balcony.
"They are assassins! They have corrupted the palace arrays! Cut them down where they stand!"
Three dozen elite royal knights, clad in heavy silver plate armor, drew their longswords in unison. Channeling their collective aura, they surged toward the grand marble staircases leading to the balcony, their heavy boots thundering against the polished floor.
Kaelen didn’t even draw his void blade. He simply took half a step forward and expanded his presence.

BOOM!
An invisible, crushing force slammed down from the ceiling like an anvil dropped from the heavens. The atmosphere inside the ballroom turned so dense it felt like liquid lead.
The thirty-six charging knights froze mid-stride. Their knees shattered against the marble steps, their heavy silver armor groaning and buckling under thousands of pounds of concentrated gravitational authority. Swords fell from numb, paralyzed fingers, clattering uselessly to the floor as every single knight was pinned flat against the stone, gasping for breath through crushed chest plates.
The high nobles screamed, backing away in utter horror. Not a single spell had been cast. Not a single blade had been swung. A thirty-six-man elite knight squad had been rendered completely helpless by a mere flick of intention.
"Is this the army you built with stolen royal gold, Marquis?" Kaelen’s voice echoed through the vast hall, smooth, cold, and quiet, yet piercing through the quiet terror of every noble present.
Lyra stepped up to the stone balustrade, her eyes sweeping over the pale faces of the high nobility below. Her voice, infused with pristine holy mana, rang out with unyielding clarity.
"Lords and Ladies of the Realm!" Lyra declared, her voice carrying three years of suppressed grief and righteous indignation.
"Three years ago, House Vance reported that the Silverwing family died of a sudden plague. They claimed my sister was incurably ill and that our bloodline surrendered its estates voluntarily!"
She pointed her blade directly at the trembling Marquis on the royal dais.
"It was all a lie forged in poison and treason! Marquis Vance used a necrotic poison to paralyze my sister’s core! He sent his personal shadow executioner, Captain Thaxton, to purge our household in the dead of night so he could seize our lands and place a parasitic curse upon King Alden himself!"
Gasps of shock erupted through the crowd. Duke Brandon, one of the oldest military commanders in the kingdom, stepped forward, his bushy eyebrows furrowed in suspicion as he glared at the Marquis.
"What is the meaning of this, Vance?! A parasitic curse upon the king?!"
"She lies!" Julian Vance screamed, his face flushed with humiliation and rage as he stepped out from behind his father.
Julian drew his ornate, gold-hilted rapier, its blade humming with sharp wind mana. As the eldest son of House Vance, he had been praised as a prodigy warrior of the capital’s young generation. To be humiliated in front of the entire high society — and to see his arranged marriage to Elena shattered instantly — drove him past the point of reason.
"You low-born rat!" Julian bellowed, leaping onto the marble stair railing and channeling his full S-Rank wind steps to launch himself directly toward Kaelen on the upper balcony.
"I don’t care what dark magic you used on the guards! You dare insult House Vance in our hall?!"
Julian’s rapier thrust forward in a blinding streak of green light, aiming straight for Kaelen’s throat. "Die!"
Kaelen didn’t even shift his gaze toward the incoming strike.
As Julian reached within three feet of the balcony, Kaelen simply lifted his right hand and closed his fist.

The air around Julian locked into solid stone. The wind mana wrapping around his rapier vanished instantly, leaving the young noble frozen, suspended mid-air like an insect trapped in amber.
Julian’s eyes widened in sheer panic as he realized he couldn’t move a single muscle, his momentum completely negated by the spatial fold holding him.
"You speak of noble standing," Kaelen murmured cold-bloodedly, stepping closer until he was looking directly into Julian’s terrified eyes. "Yet you are nothing more than dust clinging to a dying house."
Kaelen reached out, his leather-gloved fingers snapping the blade of Julian’s golden rapier in half as if it were dry tinder.
CRACK!
With a casual backhand strike, Kaelen sent Julian spiraling downward through the air.
The young noble crashed violently onto the central banquet table below, shattering ice sculptures, silver platters, and fine crystal wine glasses before rolling onto the marble floor at his father’s feet, unconscious and bloody.
"Julian!" Marquis Vance shrieked, dropping to his knees beside his broken son.
The nobles backed away even further, looking at Kaelen with absolute, primal dread. The strongest young sword master of the capital had been broken in less than two seconds without Kaelen even drawing his weapon.
"You monster..." Vance stammered, his eyes bloodshot as he looked up at the balcony. "The Royal Guard will tear you apart! The capital garrison numbers fifty thousand men! You cannot win this!"
"The capital garrison will take no orders from a traitor," a frail, authoritative voice echoed from the shadows of the royal balcony hallway behind Kaelen.
Every noble in the ballroom gasped in absolute disbelief.
Stepping out from the shadowed archway, leaning gently on a carved mahogany cane, was an old man in white royal robes. Though his face was pale and thin from three years of forced lethargy, his crown shone brightly beneath the chandeliers, and his deep blue eyes radiated the undeniable, ancient authority of absolute monarchy.
King Alden von Dragen.
"His... His Majesty?!" Duke Brandon gasped, dropping to one knee instantly.
Within seconds, every single duke, baron, and commander in the ballroom dropped to their knees, bowing their heads toward the balcony in overwhelming reverence and shock.
Marquis Vance’s heart stopped. The glass of cold water in his hand shattered as his fingers went completely numb. "Your... Your Majesty...? You are awake...?"
"Thanks to the young Sovereign and Lady Lyra," King Alden said, his raspy voice growing stronger with every breath as the remnants of the Parasitic Core washed out of his system. "My mind is clear for the first time in thirty-six months, Vance."
The king looked down at his former prime minister, his expression filled with cold disappointment and profound disgust.
"I remember everything," King Alden stated, his voice echoing across the silent hall. "I remember the dark artifact you forced into my soul core. I remember the orders you forced me to sign while my spirit was trapped in darkness. You stripped the Silverwing family of their titles, poisoned their bloodline, and sold our kingdom’s secrets to foreign powers."
The Marquis backed away on his hands and knees, his face completely pale, his mind racing as he realized his political reign had come to an absolute, undeniable end. The high nobility was looking at him with utter hatred; his private executioners were dead; his son was broken; and the king he had controlled was standing tall beside the very man who commanded space itself.
"Seize him," King Alden commanded coldly.
Before the remaining royal commanders could step forward, Marquis Vance let out a hysterical, unhinged laugh.
"Hahaha... Hahaha!" Vance laughed wildly, pushing himself up from the floor as a dark, violent madness filled his eyes. "You think you have won?! You think a senile old king and a shadow-crawling brat can undo years of planning?!"
The Marquis reached deep inside his inner coat pocket and pulled out a jagged, pitch-black crystal artifact covered in glowing, alien runes — an artifact that vibrated with a terrifying, otherworldly mana that did not belong to this continent.
Ren’s eyes widened in alarm from the balcony console. "Kaelen! That’s a high-tier distress beacon linked directly to the outer Empire!"
"If I fall tonight, this entire capital falls with me!" Marquis Vance screamed, slamming his palm onto the black crystal.
BOOM!
A pillar of dark, corrupting void light erupted from the crystal, shattering the high glass dome of the ballroom ceiling and shooting directly into the night sky, tearing open a massive crimson rift across the clouds above the capital.
