GEM TALENT

Chapter 92: 92: THE GIRL HE COULD NOT FORGET

----------------

The cooling sensation from the ice pack and the expert touch of Fernandes had done wonders for William's physical state, but as he limped back into his own room, his mind was still a whirlwind of different emotions.

He sat on the edge of his bed, gently testing the weight on his ankle, and realized that while the sharp pain had faded, a strange restlessness had taken its place.

Just as he was about to lie down and try to force himself to nap, his phone on the nightstand began to vibrate with a series of incoming notifications.

He picked it up and saw several missed calls and a flurry of messages from his two closest friends, Adam and Stone, who had been his companions long before the bright lights of professional football had found him.

They were asking him to hang out because they knew it was his official training off day, and they wanted to make sure he wasn't just sitting alone in his apartment brooding over the season.

William looked at the messages and felt a sudden spark of excitement because he truly missed the simple, uncomplicated laughter of his friends who didn't care about his league position or his passing accuracy.

He loved the idea of getting away from the high-pressure environment of the team apartment for a few hours, so he quickly stood up and moved toward his wardrobe to find something suitable to wear.

He chose a pair of comfortable, stylish joggers and a clean white t-shirt, making sure to move carefully so he wouldn't aggravate his injury any further. Once he was ready, he grabbed his wallet and phone, feeling a sense of freedom as he walked out of the apartment and called for a taxi to take him to the meeting point.

The taxi ride took him toward the quieter outskirts of Blackpool city, away from the crowded tourist spots and the noisy arcades that lined the main promenade.

As the car pulled up to a familiar patch of greenery, William saw Adam and Stone waiting for him under the shade of a large, ancient oak tree, where they were deep in conversation and laughing loudly about something. He paid the driver and stepped out, and as soon as his friends spotted him, they jumped up to exchange enthusiastic pleasantries and firm handshakes.

It felt good to be back in their company, and after a few minutes of catching up, they decided to head toward a nearby beach that was known for being a bit more secluded and peaceful than the main shores.

William usually didn't like public places like that because he was a shy person by nature and preferred the quiet of his own thoughts, but he felt that he had to go along with them today because he didn't want to be a burden on their fun.

As they arrived at the beach, the salty sea breeze hit William's face, and the sound of the crashing waves seemed to wash away some of the lingering stress from the Coventry match.

They began to walk along the shoreline, their feet sinking slightly into the wet sand, and that was when William's entire world seemed to tilt on its axis.

He happened to glance toward a group of people sitting near some large rocks, and his eyes landed on a beautiful damsel who was standing alone.

She had a grace about her that William had never seen before, and for several long seconds, he couldn't take his eyes off her because she seemed to glow under the afternoon sun.

However, before he could even process the sudden fluttering in his chest, the girl turned and walked behind a sand dune, disappearing from his sight completely.

Adam and Stone noticed that William had suddenly stopped walking and was staring into the distance with a dazed expression, and they immediately began to laugh and tease him about it.

They knew that William didn't usually relate with girls in that way because he was always so focused on his studies or his football training, so seeing him look so captivated was a rare treat for them.

"Look at our superstar! He's actually seen a girl and forgotten how to breathe!" Adam shouted, nudging William in the ribs while Stone joined in with a series of playful jokes.

William tried to shrug it off and pretend he wasn't interested in their teasing, but his heart was still racing, and he couldn't stop thinking about the brief glimpse he had caught of her.

The way he spoke during the next few minutes was different; his voice was softer, and he seemed distracted, which only made his friends certain that he had fallen in love at first sight.

Despite the distraction of the mystery girl, the three friends eventually settled down on a dry patch of sand to enjoy some of the fun activities they used to share when they were younger.

They bought some greasy, delicious chips from a nearby stand and sat there eating them while they watched the seagulls circle overhead and talked about old school memories. Later, they found a flat area of the beach and started a competitive game of skipping stones across the surface of the water, with Stone claiming the victory after his rock bounced five times before sinking.

They even spent some time trying to build a ridiculous sandcastle that looked more like a lumpy mountain, laughing until their sides ached when a stray wave came along and leveled the entire structure in a second.

It was exactly the kind of mindless, joyful fun that William needed, and for a while, he forgot all about the pressure of the league table and the expectations of Coach Lincoln.

As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting long, orange shadows across the beach, the trio decided it was finally time to head back toward the city.

As they reached the narrow wooden walkway that served as the exit from the beach, William's heart nearly stopped because he saw the girl again, standing right near the gate as she waited for someone.

He felt a sudden surge of courage, and as he passed by her, he raised his hand and gave her a small, hopeful wave while offering a shy smile. To his immense disappointment, the girl didn't even acknowledge his presence; she simply looked right through him as if he were invisible, clearly showing that she didn't know him or care who he was.

William felt a sharp pang of embarrassment and rejection, realizing that even though he was a rising star for Blackpool, in the real world, he was just another face in the crowd.

He walked away feeling a bit deflated because he truly didn't know how to approach girls or strike up a conversation with someone he didn't know, yet he couldn't shake the feeling that his heart was somehow connected to her.

He stopped for a moment and looked back at the beach, his expression full of a strange kind of longing that made his friends stop their laughing for a second.

"I will keep coming here," William said firmly, his eyes fixed on the spot where he had last seen her. Adam and Stone looked at each other in disbelief before bursting into another round of loud laughter.

"You're going to become a beach bum just because of a lady you didn't even talk to?" Stone asked, shaking his head in amusement. Even William couldn't help but join in the laughter then, realizing how dramatic he was being, and they all began to walk back toward the taxi stand.

They eventually departed to their various houses, and as William sat in the back of the cab on his way home, he noticed something very surprising about his physical condition.

The walking, the salt air, and the sheer joy of spending time with his friends seemed to have worked a miracle on his body because he didn't feel the sharp pain in his ankle anymore.

The stiffness had vanished, and when he flexed his foot, it felt strong and stable once again, which gave him a massive boost of confidence. He realized then that the mental break had been just as important as the physical massage, and he felt a renewed sense of energy coursing through his veins.

By the time he reached his apartment and stepped inside, William had already made up his mind about the next day. He felt so good that he decided he would join the full training session the second day, rather than sitting on the sidelines with the medical staff.

He knew that the next match against Ipswich was going to be an incredibly tough battle, and he wanted to make sure he was at the very top of his game so he could contribute to the team's success.

The thought of the girl was still tucked away in the back of his mind, acting as a strange kind of motivation, but his primary focus was back where it belonged.

He was a Blackpool player, a leader in the midfield, and he was ready to fight for the badge with everything he had. As he climbed into bed that night, the confusion about Chelsea and the sting of the girl's rejection faded away, replaced by the steely determination of a boy who knew exactly what he had to do on the pitch.
