GEM TALENT

Chapter 81: 81: THE FINAL SEVEN

The final pen had been laid down and the doors of the examination hall had swung shut behind him for the last time, marking the end of a grueling intellectual marathon that had tested William's mental fortitude to its absolute

limit.

As he walked away from the school grounds, he felt a massive weight lifting off his shoulders because he was no longer an embattled student fighting for his academic life, but was once again a professional athlete ready to

reclaim his territory.

The next morning, William found himself making the familiar journey back to the Blackpool training facility on his bicycle to resume his duties with the squad. During the weeks he had been away focused on his physics and mathematics, the world of the Championship had continued to spin with a frantic and unforgiving energy, and as he walked, he reflected on the results the team had recorded in his absence.

Blackpool had played a total of five matches while William was buried in his studies, and although they had managed to remain technically unbeaten, the results were far from the dominant displays the fans had grown accustomed to.

The team had secured only one solitary victory, were eliminated from the domestic cup and had struggled through three frustrating draws, a sequence of results that had unfortunately pushed them back down the table to the fourth position.

With seventy-two points currently to their name and only seven games remaining in the season, the margin for error had become razor-thin, and the pressure on every player was reaching a boiling point.

Kyle had been recalled from his disciplinary suspension to play in two of those three draws, yet his presence on the pitch had not provided the creative spark the team needed to break down stubborn defenses.

Consequently, the Blackpool supporters were starting to realize the true importance of William in their starting eleven, because they had seen how the midfield lacked his specific vision and his ability to control the transition phases of the game.

William knew that he was not coming back at the same level of peak fitness he had enjoyed before the exam period, because sitting at a desk for fourteen days had inevitably made his muscles a bit stiff and his cardiovascular endurance a bit rusty.

Notwithstanding this physical decline, he remained confident that he would be able to get his form back after a few high-intensity training sessions under the watchful eyes of the coaching staff.

He felt a sharp hunger in his gut to be back on the grass, and as he approached the heavy metallic gates of the training ground on his bicycle, he pulled his smartphone from his pocket to review the final seven fixtures that would decide their fate.

The list was a challenging mix of home and away ties: Coventry City at home, followed by a difficult trip to Ipswich Town, then Cardiff City at home, Birmingham City away, Stoke City away, a massive clash against Southampton at home, and finally a trip to Norwich City on the last day.

He studied the names of the opponents and realized that the mission to remain unbeaten was now more critical than ever, because any more draws or a single loss could result in them falling out of the automatic promotion spots and into the lottery of the playoffs.

He knew that he had to try his best to focus every ounce of his energy on helping the team navigate this final stretch, and he felt a surge of resolve as he visualized the through-balls and interceptions he would need to execute.

He tucked his phone away and straightened his training jacket, feeling a sense of quiet victory because he had survived the battle of the examinations and was now standing on the doorstep of his true passion once again.

When he finally rode through the gates and onto the facility grounds, William was met with a surprisingly warm and enthusiastic welcome that caught him off guard.

A small group of media reporters who were covering the team's promotion push immediately surrounded him, their cameras flashing as they asked questions about his exams and his readiness to return to the pitch.

Furthermore, the coaching team, led by a smiling Coach Lincoln, walked over to greet him with firm handshakes and words of genuine praise for his academic integrity.

Even the captains, Fernandes and Coleman, made a point of welcoming him back into the

fold, with Fernandes giving him a friendly slap on the back that signaled his total acceptance back into the inner circle.

William appreciated the kindness and the professional respect he was receiving, yet he did not let the attention go to his head or distract him from the task at hand. He moved through the crowd with a polite smile, but his eyes remained fixed on the path leading toward the changing rooms because he was eager to put on his training kit and get to work.

He went straight into the sanctuary of the

dressing room, and as the heavy door clicked shut behind him, the familiar smell of deep-heat and old leather filled his lungs. He knew fully well that he wanted to succeed at all costs, and he made a silent promise to himself that he would not look at or listen to anyone who was unhappy with his return.

He was aware that Kyle and Reed were likely still filled with anger in corners of the room, but their petty jealousy felt like a distant and insignificant noise compared to the massive goal of reaching the Premier League.

He sat down at his locker and began to change into his training gear, feeling the familiar texture of the fabric against his skin and the weight of his boots in his hands.

The locker room was beginning to fill up as the rest of the squad arrived for the morning session, and he could feel the shift in the atmosphere the moment Kyle walked through the door.

Kyle looked at William with a cold, piercing gaze that was filled with a mixture of anger and frustration, likely because he knew that William's return meant his own time in the starting eleven might be coming to an end.

William didn't flinch or acknowledge the stare;

instead, he focused on tying his laces with a level of precision that reflected his internal discipline.

The vibration of the room increased as more players began to joke and talk about the upcoming match against Coventry, and William felt a sense of belonging that he had deeply missed during his time in the library.

He looked over at Coleman, who was sitting nearby and giving him a knowing nod of approval. They understood that William brought a tactical intelligence to the midfield that was essential for winning close matches, and they were glad to have him back in working order.

William felt his confidence swelling, and although he knew he would have to push his body through the pain of regaining his fitness, he was more than ready for the challenge.

As the team began to head out toward the pitch for the start of the official session, Coach Lincoln stopped William for a brief moment near the pitch.

"Glad to have you back, son," Lincoln said, his voice low and serious. "We are going to need you for these last seven games if we want to secure that automatic promotion." William looked his coach in the eye and gave a firm, determined nod.

"I'm ready, Coach. I'll give everything I have to make sure we don't drop another point," he replied, and then he stepped out into the bright morning light.

The air was crisp and the grass was still damp with dew, and as William started his first lap around the pitch, he felt a sense of pure, unfiltered joy. He was no longer thinking about physics formulas or mathematics equations; instead, his mind was filled with how to win games and take Blackpool to the Premier League.

He pushed himself through the initial fatigue, his legs feeling heavy but his spirit feeling light, as he worked to find his rhythm once again. He

watched as the rest of the squad began their drills, and he noticed that the intensity of the session was much higher than it had been before he left.

Everyone knew that the season was entering its final, decisive phase, and the vompetition for places was becoming even more fierce.

Notwithstanding the tension in the squad, William felt a deep sense of peace because he knew he had handled his responsibilities with honor. He had finished his exams, he had cleared his name from Jamal's malicious plot, and now he was back where he belonged, fighting for the glory of Blackpool FC.

He knew the road ahead was still going to be rough and that the seven remaining games would be like seven final exams on the grass, but he was prepared to face them with the

same intelligence and perseverance that had brought him this far.
