Chapter 80: 80: JUSTICE PREVAILED
----------
The air in the walkway felt remarkably hot as William followed Mrs. Sterling and Mr. Henderson toward the high-security surveillance room, and the silence between them was so heavy that the rhythmic sound of their footsteps echoed against the polished floor like a drumbeat.
William's heart was still hammering against his ribs because he knew that the next few minutes would either save his life or end it, yet he maintained a steady pace and kept his head held high.
They reached a heavy steel door at the end of the corridor, and after Mr. Henderson swiped a specialized keycard and punched in a security code, they stepped into a small, dimly lit room that was filled with glowing monitors and a
low, electric hum.
William felt a surge of nervous energy as he watched the security leader sit down at the main console and begin to navigate through the digital files of the morning's footage, because he was absolutely certain that
he had not brought that note into the school himself.
Here we are, the Hall entrance, from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM," Mr. Henderson announced, and he clicked a button that made the high-definition image of the hallway appear on the largest screen in the room.
The principal moved forward with her eyes narrowed to catch every detail, and the room became deathly quiet as the video began to play at a slightly accelerated speed.
William watched as the sea of students moved toward the security checkpoint, and then he saw his own figure appearing on the screen, looking calm and focused as he waited in the
crowded line.
As his digital self reached the doorway, the security leader slowed the footage down to a frame-by-frame crawl, and the tension in the room reached a breaking point.
Suddenly, they all saw it; a hand reached out from the crowd behind William with a movement that was so fast and calculated that it was almost invisible to the naked eye.
The camera angle was perfect, and it clearly showed Jamal standing directly behind William with a look of intense, predatory focus on his face.
With a snake like motion, Jamal's fingers slid the folded note into the open pocket of William's training jacket, after which he quickly pulled his hand back and looked away as if nothing had happened.
William stood there completely speechless because even though he knew Jamal was unfriendly and bitter, he truly did not expect such a cowardly and malicious act from a fellow student who shared the same halls as him.
Mrs. Sterling let out a sharp, audible gasp of
pure shock and disappointment, and she turned toward the screen with a look of cold fury that William had never seen on her face before.
Mr. Henderson paused the video on the exact moment of the contact, and the image of Jamal's betrayal remained frozen on the screen like a permanent mark of shame.
"I have seen enough," Mrs. Sterling declared, her voice sounding like a crack of thunder in the small room, and she immediately turned to the security leader with a firm command.
"Mr. Henderson, go to the Hall right now and bring that boy out of the examination; he is finished at this school." The security leader didn't wait for a second instruction, and he marched out of the room with a sense of grim purpose that made William realize the weight of the situation.
The principal then turned toward William, and her expression softened into one of deep regret and sympathy while she reached out to place a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"William, I want to sincerely apologize to you for the way you were treated this morning, and I beg you not to be angry with the school for
this terrible misunderstanding," she said with a soft, pleading tone. She explained that she was deeply saddened that a student of his caliber had been subjected to such a cruel trap, and she promised that she would do everything in her power to make things right.
-------------------------
While William was trying to process the apology, Mr. Henderson had already reached the Hall and signaled for the invigilators to stop Jamal's paper.
The entire hall went silent as Jamal was escorted out by his arm, his face turning a ghostly shade of white as he realized that his secret act had been discovered by the very eyes he tried to hide from.
He was led directly to the administrative area where Mrs. Sterling was waiting, and she addressed him in a displeasing, stern manner that left the boy shaking with fear.
"You have not just cheated, Jamal, but you have tried to murder the reputation and the career of a hardworking teammate through a disgusting act of sabotage," she told him,
her voice filled with a cold disgust that made it clear there would be no mercy.
She informed him that his actions were a grave violation of the school's honor code, and that he would be facing the harshest punishment possible for his crimes.
As the Mathematics exam officially came to an end, the doors of the hall opened and the students poured out into the courtyard, many of them discussing the difficult questions they had just faced. Stone and Adams immediately went to search for William, and when they finally found him standing near the principal's office, they rushed over with faces full of worry and concern.
"William! What happened? How did the meeting go?" Adams asked, his voice
trembling because he had been terrified for his friend's future for the last two hours. Before
William could even open his mouth to explain the miraculous turn of events, a sudden hush fell over the entire courtyard because the news began to broadcast on the large digital screen in the center of the campus.
The bold, white text announced that Jamal had been officially expelled from the school
effective immediately, and the reason given was a malicious act of sabotage against a fellow student, which caused a wave of whispers and gasps to ripple through the crowd of students.
William was called back into the principal's office for a brief word of encouragement, and as he sat in the familiar leather chair, he felt a sense of peace that was almost as satisfying as winning a championship match.
Mrs. Sterling sat behind her desk and looked at him with a proud, warm smile, and she
offered him a sincere plea to keep his head held high despite the morning's trauma.
"I have already instructed my secretary to draft an official letter to the Blackpool club, and I will personally speak with Mr. Clement and Coach
Lincoln to let them know the absolute truth about your innocence," she assured him, making it clear that his professional reputation was now safe.
She also told him that because he had missed the official session due to the investigation, he would be allowed to sit down for the Mathematics exam again in a private room so that his academic record would remain perfect.
The weight that had been pressing down on William's chest for the last few hours finally lifted, and he felt a surge of gratitude for the justice that had been served so swiftly.
He thanked the principal for her fairness and her protection, and then he was led to a quiet, sunlit room where a fresh exam paper was waiting for him on a wooden desk. William took a deep breath, centered his mind, and began to solve the complex equations with a level of focus and clarity that was even stronger than before.
He moved through the calculus and algebra problems with tactical intelligence, feeling the logic of the numbers flowing through his
mind while he reclaimed his honor with every correct answer he wrote down. He finished the paper with time to spare, and as he handed it back to the supervisor, he felt a sense of quiet victory that made the morning's nightmare
feel like a distant memory.
Stone and Adams were waiting for him outside the school gates when he finally finished, and as soon as they saw him, they greeted him with cheers and a series of firm handshakes.
They were incredibly proud of how he had handled the pressure, and they spoke about how Jamal's expulsion was a lesson to everyone that evil acts would always be uncovered in the end.
"We knew you didn't do it, William! We knew you were too smart for that!" Stone shouted, and the three of them began to walk home together under the warm afternoon sun.
As they left the school grounds, William looked back at the Hall one last time and realized that the battle for his future was not just fought on the football pitch, but also in the way he maintained his integrity in the face of
opposition.
He thought about Kyle and the other rivals at the club, and he felt a new level of confidence because he knew that as long as he stayed true to, he could survive any plot they tried to set for him. His mind was at peace, his academic record was secure.
He walked alongside his friends, laughing and talking about the next paper Physics, and how they will prepare for it.
He conquered his first opposition
