GEM TALENT

Chapter 63: 63: THE NEWCOMER MEET HIS MATCH

-------------------

The atmosphere on the training pitch was thick with a level of tension that felt like a physical weight, and even though William had never actually seen Kyle play a full match before, he was more than ready to show the newcomer a true masterclass in midfield play.

He tightened the laces on his metallic studs and took several deep breaths to calm his racing heart, while across from him, Kyle

was bouncing on the balls of his feet with an arrogant look that suggested he already believed the victory was his.

The air was biting and cold, but as Coach

Lincoln blew his silver whistle to signal the start of the scrimmage, the imtensity of the match grew so rapidly that the players quickly forgot about the freezing morning mist.

As the first few minutes of the game unfolded, William focused his sharp, analytical eyes on Kyle to study his movements and identify his style of play. He quickly realized that the newcomer was technically gifted because his ball control was silky smooth and his short passing was incredibly accurate, yet William also noticed the glaring holes in Kyle's game that the coaches might have missed.

Kyle lacked the expansive vision needed to switch the play, and his dribbling was somewhat stiff compared to William's fluid motion, making it clear that the newcomer struggled with long, through passes that could split a defense wide open.

Kyle's team started with the ball and they moved it with impressive speed, putting William's defense under a significant amount of pressure as they tried to find a gap in the low-block system that Coach Lincoln had instructed them to use.

However, the momentum shifted the moment William's team managed a crucial interception near their own penalty area, and they immediately began a patient build-up from the back to regain control of the game. The transition was smooth and professional, starting with Walker, the goalkeeper, who rolled a short pass out to Johnson at center-back, who then quickly shifted the ball to Merino to

bypass the first line of the yellow team's press.

Merino spotted William dropping into a pocket of space in the central midfield and zipped a firm pass into his feet, and as the ball arrived, William felt a surge of confidence wash over him. He didn't hesitate for a single second, using a clever body feint to leave Brooks and Grant stumbling behind him as he dribbled through the heart of the midfield with the ball seemingly glued to his feet.

Seeing Ortega making a diagonal run on the right wing, William delivered a perfectly timed through ball that bypassed three defenders and landed exactly in his teammate's path with incredible precision. Ortega didn't even have to slow down as he collected the pass and moved toward the corner flag, where he

delivered a high, fizzing cross into the center of the box that was aimed directly at the near post. Ibrahim, the striker, timed his jump

perfectly and met the ball with a powerful header that sent it screaming into the back of the net before the keeper could even react.

The blue team erupted in cheers, and as they jogged back to their half, Coach Lincoln gave William a clear thumb-up for that incredible pass, acknowledging the tactical intelligence

that had created the opening.

The goal seemed to ignite a fire of pure anger inside Kyle, and his face twisted into a mask of frustration as he realized that the "fast-legged boy" he had mocked was actually outclassing him. Determined to get his revenge, Kyle moved deep into his own defense to collect the ball and started a furious counter-attack that showed off his impressive shooting and direct play.

He moved the ball forward with short, sharp passes, eventually playing a quick one-two

with Morgan, the striker, which allowed him to break through the final line of the defense. As he approached the edge of the penalty area, Kyle let fly with a wonderful, curling shot that tucked into the top corner of the net, leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

It was a moment of individual brilliance, and

Coach Lincoln gave Kyle a thumb-up as well, signaling that the competition for the starting spot was now more intense than ever.

William watched the celebration with a calm expression, but his mind was already working on a way to neutralize the threat that Kyle posed to the team's structure.

He realized that Kyle's main strength was his ability to shoot when given space, so for the next twenty minutes, William began to man-mark him with a level of persistence that made it impossible for Kyle to even turn with the

ball.

Every time Kyle tried to receive a pass, William was right there, using his body to shield the ball or sticking out a foot to make a clean interception before the attack could develop.

The frustration began to boil over for Kyle,

and as they chased a loose ball near the sidelines, he lost his temper completely and swung his boot in a reckless tackle that caught William sharply on the ankle.

The sound of the impact echoed across the pitch, and Coach Lincoln immediately blew his whistle with a loud, angry blast that brought the game to a screeching halt. The coach marched over to Kyle with a stern look on his face, warning him that if he ever used that kind of dangerous play again, he would be punished

with an immediate suspension from training.

William didn't complain or stay on the ground to look for sympathy; instead, he gritted his teeth against the pain and pulled himself back up to his feet, showing a level of toughness that earned him the respect of the older players.

He didn't let the foul bother him, and for the remainder of the session, he completely controlled the midfield by dictating the tempo and making sure his team maintained possession through clever overlap runs and quick clearances when necessary.

As the scrimmage progressed toward the final whistle, it became obvious to everyone watching that while Kyle was performing well and was the standout player for the yellow team, William was the one who was truly dominating the entire pitch. His ability to read the game and his selfless work rate made

everyone around him play better, while Kyle's style often felt like he was playing a solo match against the world.

When the training session finally ended and the players began to head toward the equipment shed, William noticed that Kyle was walking alone, clearly unhappy with the way the morning had unfolded.

Despite the harsh words he had overheard earlier, William decided to take the high road and try to bridge the gap between them

because he knew that the team needed unity to beat Swansea.

He jogged over to Kyle and reached out a hand, hoping that they could link up as friends and put their rivalry aside for the sake of the club's success.

"That was a great shot you scored earlier, Kyle," William said with a genuine, friendly smile, "we're going to need that kind of power this Sunday."

However, Kyle didn't even bother to look him in the eye, and he gave a cold, blunt rejection as he brushed past William without a second thought.

"I'm not here to make friends, and I'm definitely not here to link up," Kyle snapped, his voice filled with a bitter resentment that made the air feel even colder than before. "I will decide later if the friendship would work"

William stood there for a moment, feeling a wave of confusion and disappointment wash over him as he watched Kyle walk away toward the locker rooms. He had tried to be the bigger person, yet it seemed that Kyle was more interested in a personal vendetta than in winning matches for Blackpool.

Just as he felt the urge to get angry, he remembered the mental training he had received from Coach Tuchel and the deep lessons his father had taught him about resilience. They had both told him that the mind was a player's most important muscle, and that he should never allow someone else's negativity to dictate his own peace of mind.

He realized that Kyle's rejection wasn't a reflection of his own worth, but a sign of Kyle's internal struggle and insecurity about his own place in the team.

Taking a deep breath, William turned away and started the walk back to the locker room, his mind feeling more directed and focused than it had been all morning. He knew that the battle for the starting lineup was still ongoing, but

he felt a sense of quiet victory because he had proven that he could handle both the physical and emotional challenges of the professional game.

He didn't need Kyle's friendship to be a great player, and he certainly didn't need his

approval to help Blackpool reach the Premier League. As he walked through the passage, he felt the warrior inside him grow even stronger, and he made a silent vow that he would let his performance on Sunday do all the talking

for him. He was more than just a pair of fast legs; he was a leader in the making, and nothing—not even a bitter rival—was going to stop his climb to the top.
