An Accidental Military Marriage

Chapter 117: Two Sisters-in-law?

Just as his subordinate pointed it out, Zhao Hongbing spotted Lu Cheng and, in the passenger seat, Jiang Moli.

The sun in Menghai was intense, tanning everyone, young and old, man and woman alike. It was rare to see a woman as fair and beautiful as Jiang Moli—no, a hooligan.

’She looks like a fairy, but she’s actually a hooligan.’

『Disdain Value +4, credited 40,000 yuan.』

Seeing Lu Cheng’s vehicle about to drive past, Zhao Hongbing left the platoon leader in charge of the scene, took off running, and launched himself onto the side of the vehicle.

"Camp Commander Lu!"

Lu Cheng had been happily chatting with his wife. He turned his head and saw Zhao Hongbing clinging to the car window, and his smile vanished.

"What do you think you’re doing?"

Seeing Zhao Hongbing’s eyes, brighter than lightbulbs, sizing up Jiang Moli in the passenger seat, he scolded, "What are you staring at? This is your sister-in-law! She came all the way from our hometown to visit, just arrived today."

His tone in the last two sentences was clearly tinged with a hint of showing off.

’Look, my wife came to visit, too!’

Upon learning Jiang Moli’s identity, Zhao Hongbing quickly freed one hand to salute. "Hello, Sister-in-law!"

Jiang Moli smiled politely and replied with a "Hello."

The mountain road was rugged, and the vehicle suddenly lurched violently. Zhao Hongbing was jolted so hard he was almost thrown off.

"Hey, be careful!"

"Son of a bitch, hold on tight!"

Jiang Moli and Lu Cheng spoke out at almost the same time.

Zhao Hongbing quickly steadied himself and grinned at them. "I’m fine! I’ve got a firm grip. I won’t fall."

Lu Cheng shot him a disdainful glare. "Get down from there. Stop getting in the way."

’He’s interrupting my private time with my wife.’

Zhao Hongbing gave Lu Cheng a brief report on the mission situation, then jumped off the vehicle.

After watching the convoy drive off into the distance, he returned to the landslide site.

Seeing him return, Platoon Leader Li Dayuan came up to him. "Zhao Lian, is Camp Commander Lu taking that hooligan back to the camp?"

Zhao Hongbing snapped, "What hooligan? That’s Camp Commander Lu’s wife! Our sister-in-law!"

Li Dayuan was shocked. "She’s our sister-in-law already? But doesn’t Camp Commander Lu already have a wife back home? He’s got two?"

"Nonsense! That *is* his wife from back home! She’s here to visit family at the base."

After scolding him, Zhao Hongbing suddenly remembered he’d sent someone to report to Zhong Weiguo earlier. He quickly sent Li Dayuan back to the camp to clear things up with Zhong Weiguo.

...

The camp’s rules were ironclad: non-military personnel were forbidden from setting foot inside. Family members could only move about in the designated living area.

Lu Cheng got out of the car with Jiang Moli in the family living area.

Jiang Moli alone had three bags. Lu Tingting had one more than her, as she was going to be staying here for half a year, after all.

Lu Cheng carried five of the bags by himself.

There were two bags left. Jiang Moli thought that she and Lu Tingting could each take one, which would be perfect. Just as she bent down to pick one up, a man’s voice came from above her:

"Let’s go. Let Tingting get those two."

Jiang Moli chuckled and really did just walk off with Lu Cheng, leaving the bags behind.

Lu Tingting was so mad she could feel steam coming out of her ears.

But what could she do? Both bags were hers. And she knew Lu Cheng wouldn’t indulge her and come back to help. Dejected, she slung the two bags over her shoulders and staggered along behind the couple.

Jiang Moli glanced at Lu Tingting struggling behind them and teased Lu Cheng, "You’re pretty heartless. She’s your own niece, after all."

"The family spoils her too much. That’s why she dares to be disrespectful to you again and again. Letting her suffer a bit will teach her a lesson she won’t forget."

Jiang Moli silently lit a candle for Lu Tingting.

...

There hadn’t been many outside visitors to the base recently, so the guesthouse had plenty of empty rooms.

Lu Cheng spent a long time choosing.

He was worried the top floor would be too hot for Jiang Moli, and the first floor would be too noisy. In the end, he chose a suite on the second floor, in the very back, with a balcony for drying clothes.

When it came to Lu Tingting, Lu Cheng instructed the orderly, "Just find any empty room for her."

Lu Tingting: "..."

’Was I picked out of a trash heap?’

The orderly, however, was sharp. Learning that Lu Tingting was Lu Cheng’s niece, he arranged for her to stay in the room next to Jiang Moli’s.

Once inside the room, Lu Cheng first checked the door, windows, desk, chairs, and cabinet doors one by one.

After confirming nothing was broken, he started cleaning the room.

The guesthouse rooms weren’t cleaned daily, so there was inevitably some dust.

In no time, the room was spotless. He even took the sheets and quilt outside to shake out the dust before making the bed again.

Watching the man bustling about, bent over his tasks, the tiny bit of annoyance that had been in Jiang Moli’s heart was swept away just like the dust in the room.

Lu Tingting stood outside the door, her jaw nearly dropping to the floor.

’Her Third Uncle never did chores at home, but here he was, cleaning a room for that damn woman Jiang Moli!’

’This is infuriating!’

She put on a whiny tone. "Third Uncle, my room is really dirty too."

Lu Cheng shoved the rag and mop into her hands.

"Clean it yourself."

Lu Tingting pointed at Jiang Moli, aggrieved. "You cleaned for her, why won’t you clean for me?"

"She’s my wife. How can you compare to her?"

Lu Tingting was so furious she thought she’d burst.

Lu Cheng ignored her and gestured for Jiang Moli to sit for a bit, while he grabbed a washbasin and towel and went to the washroom.

’I’m all sweaty. Can’t have my wife smelling this.’

When he returned to the room after washing up, he saw his wife standing on the balcony, gazing at the distant scenery.

Her profile was soft and beautiful, her nose pert, the corners of her lips slightly upturned.

A few strands of hair by her ear fluttered in the breeze, and it felt as if his heart was fluttering along with them.

He couldn’t help but walk over, wanting to be a part of her world.

Hearing his footsteps, Jiang Moli turned around, her clear, almond-shaped eyes looking him up and down.

The man already had a well-defined face, a high-bridged nose, and sharp, thin lips. Now, with the fatigue and dust washed away, all that remained was a clean-cut handsomeness.

His short buzz cut was wet, the strands standing up on his scalp, wild and unrestrained.

A drop of water trickled down his sexy Adam’s apple and disappeared into his collar.

The man was still wearing the same tank top. With every breath, his full, firm pectoral muscles rose and fell.

Up close, the sexual tension radiating from the man was dangerously alluring.

No wonder he had that group of women so captivated they could barely keep their legs together.

Jiang Moli spoke, her voice holding a hint of accusation. "It’s not your fault you’re handsome, but it’s your fault for dressing like this."

Lu Cheng looked down at himself. "Is there something wrong with how I’m dressed?"

He didn’t think there was anything wrong with his clothes. All the soldiers on duty today were dressed like this.

If anyone else had said this, he would have cursed them out.

But when it was his wife talking, he was all ears.

Jiang Moli reached out a finger and poked his bicep.

The muscle was warm, firm, and elastic. It felt amazing to the touch.

"Showing off your arms and chest out there... you had that group of women practically drooling!"

Lu Cheng finally understood why his wife had flirted with him in front of all those people.

’So she was jealous.’

This realization made Lu Cheng inexplicably excited.

"I’ll try to dress more appropriately on future missions."

In reality, it wasn’t that Jiang Moli couldn’t accept him dressing like this. Compared to the male models from later generations who went shirtless at the drop of a hat, Lu Cheng’s attire was quite conservative.

It was just that the man’s physique was so exceptional that he could make a simple tank top look ridiculously sexy and alluring.

However, his attitude had clearly pleased her.

She asked him again, her voice carrying a hint of poutiness that even she didn’t notice, "Why didn’t you come to the station to pick me up today? I got made fun of because of it."
