Chapter 116: Husband and Wife Meet
Watching the gang of women run toward the front of the town, shouting for her blood, Jiang Moli crawled out from under the truck, her heart still pounding.
As she dusted off her clothes, she muttered, "You should use that energy to chase men, what’s the point of chasing me! Seriously!"
She turned and met the complicated gaze of the soldier who had been guiding them. Adhering to the principle of ’as long as I’m not the one who’s embarrassed, someone else will be,’ she nonchalantly said "Thank you" to him and got back into the truck.
The soldier knew Jiang Moli was here for a family visit, but he didn’t know whose family member she was.
Therefore, he was inwardly disgusted by her act of flirting with a superior officer.

...
Lu Cheng was searching for Jiang Moli, checking the trucks one by one.
The cargo bed, the driver’s cab, even under the chassis—he didn’t miss a single spot.
Soon, he found the truck Lu Tingting was in.
"Third Uncle!"
Lu Cheng looked at her. "Where’s your third aunt?"
"I don’t know."
After a glare from Lu Cheng, she obediently confessed, "She’s in the first truck up front."
"Stay put and don’t wander off!"
Watching his tall figure sprint forward, Lu Tingting was incredibly frustrated.
She just couldn’t figure out what was so great about that wretched woman, Jiang Moli.
To have completely bewitched her third uncle, who had always been so stoic and austere!
Just as the first transport truck came into view, Lu Cheng suddenly stopped in his tracks.
Only after steadying his breath did he resume walking toward the vehicle.
He first glanced into the cargo bed and saw no one, then went to check the driver’s cab.
Jiang Moli was sitting in the passenger seat eating a tangerine. When the man suddenly appeared outside her window, she nearly choked.
Lu Cheng stared at her fixedly, his gaze fiery and scorching, his voice slightly hoarse. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?"
"No, they didn’t catch me. They went on ahead."
Lu Cheng breathed a sigh of relief, then asked, "Why did you come?"
Jiang Moli huffed. "Am I not allowed to come?"
"You are! More than welcome!"
His voice was steady and crisp. With that, he rounded the truck to the driver’s side, pulled open the door, and climbed in.
His deep, blazing eyes ensnared her with their aggressive intensity.
It gave Jiang Moli the oppressive feeling that she couldn’t escape, even if she sprouted wings.
After carefully looking her over from head to toe and confirming she wasn’t injured, he finally spoke again, his deep, hoarse voice laced with the joy of their reunion.
"I never expected you to be willing to come here. On my way to find you, I kept wondering if I was dreaming, or if I was just missing you so much that I was starting to hallucinate."
The last sentence successfully made Jiang Moli’s cheeks flush red.
Lu Cheng was charmed by her shy expression.
He originally had a thousand heartfelt things to tell her, but now, he felt no rush to say them.
’We’ll have plenty of time later to say it all.’
His gaze fell to the tangerine in her hand, and he asked with concern, "Are you hungry? Did you eat anything on the road?"
The drive from Kun City to Menghai was a full six hours, and military units on duty usually didn’t stop for breaks.
He was used to it, of course, but he worried that the arduous journey would be too much for Jiang Moli’s delicate constitution.
"I’ve eaten."
Jiang Moli was only eating the tangerine because she was thirsty from being chased, and she didn’t want to bring it up again. She held the fruit out to him. "Want some?"
"My hands are dirty. You feed me."
Fearing she wouldn’t believe him, he even opened his mud-caked palm for her to see.
Jiang Moli peeled two bright orange segments and held them to his lips.
Lu Cheng opened his mouth to eat them, and whether by accident or design, his warm, moist lips brushed against her fingertips.
"Is it good?"
"Delicious. Very sweet. Are these from back home?"
Jiang Moli grinned at him. "I just went to the bathroom and didn’t wash my hands."
Lu Cheng looked at her. "It’s fine, I don’t mind. Feed me some more. It’s been a long time since I’ve had tangerines from home."
Jiang Moli belatedly realized her little trick was rather childish.
For a soldier like him, who had walked through fire and blood and stared death in the face, how could a little dirt possibly bother him?
Half a tangerine was gone in no time.
With Lu Cheng’s build, half a tangerine was hardly enough to tide him over, so Jiang Moli dug two more out of her bag.
The soldier Zhao Hongbing had sent back to camp to report ran into Commander Zhong in the residential area, just as he was leaving his house.
"Reporting, Commander Zhong! Our Camp Commander Lu has been abducted by a female hooligan!"
"What female hooligan? Where did a female hooligan come from? Speak clearly!"
The soldier reported the entire incident from beginning to end.
After dismissing the soldier, Commander Zhong returned to his office and placed a call to headquarters. Upon confirming that Jiang Moli had indeed arrived with the new recruits’ convoy for a family visit, he was finally able to relax.
’That figured.’
’In all these years, aside from that Jiang Moli, had Lu Cheng ever given any other female comrade a second glance?’
While Commander Zhong now understood the situation, the news that Camp Commander Lu had been "abducted by a female hooligan" had already spread like wildfire through the family residential area.
When Commander Zhong was listening to the soldier’s report, two family members happened to be passing by. They went back and told their friends about it.
One person told ten, and ten told a hundred.
In less than half an hour, the entire family residential area knew.
"Flirting with an officer in broad daylight? That woman must have a death wish."
"A morally corrupt hooligan like that should be sent to a farm for re-education!"
Quite a few of the family members agreed with this sentiment.

Jiang Qing had been spending the last few days at Feng Meihua’s house, making hats.
She wanted to do more handicraft work to exchange for some money at the town co-op and pay off her debts sooner.
When she heard the news that Lu Cheng had been abducted by a female hooligan, she found it unbelievable.
After all, Lu Cheng didn’t seem like the type of person to be swayed by lust.
Still, she couldn’t help but hope that Lu Cheng really had fallen for another woman and would dump Jiang Moli!
...
Just as they finished the two tangerines, word came from up ahead that the road was clear.
The raw recruits started streaming back to their respective transport trucks.
The driver returned, and upon seeing Lu Cheng sitting in his truck, he hastily saluted. "Camp Commander Lu."
Lu Cheng rested his elbow on the open window frame, looking down at the driver from his elevated position.
Though young and handsome, he exuded the powerful authority of a superior. "Are you from the 3rd Regiment’s motor company?"
The driver snapped his legs together and replied loudly, "Song Wenjie, 1st Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment! I have been enlisted for twelve months and five days!"
Lu Cheng nodded. "Good. Go sit in the back. I’ll drive."
The driver looked at him. "Camp Commander Lu, army regulations state that personnel may not abandon their posts while on duty."
Jiang Moli couldn’t help but let out a laugh.
Lu Cheng hadn’t expected the driver to be such a stickler for the rules. He cleared his throat and said sternly, "This is an order. Get in the back!"
"Yes, sir!"
The driver jogged around and hopped into the cargo bed.
Watching Lu Cheng expertly drive the transport truck, Jiang Moli couldn’t help but tease, "You just stole his job. Isn’t he going to get chewed out when he gets back?"
"I’m not the one getting chewed out, so why should I care?"
Jiang Moli: "..."
Charmed by her speechless and shocked expression, a light chuckle rumbled in Lu Cheng’s throat. "I’m just teasing you. Their company commander was one of my men. For my sake, he won’t give the kid a hard time."
An idea sparked in Jiang Moli’s mind. "Are there any special requirements to get into the motor company?"
Lu Cheng was exceptionally sharp and guessed her intentions at once.
"You want Xiao Peng to become a driver?"
"He’s not very educated, and he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed. Driving is a technical skill, at least. When he’s discharged in the future, he won’t have to worry about finding work."
Lu Cheng said, "If he just wants to learn how to drive, he doesn’t necessarily have to join the motor company."
"Then you can arrange it. You know more about military matters than I do."
Lu Cheng chuckled. "Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it. I won’t let you down."
As they spoke, the truck passed the area of the landslide.
Although the road was passable again, large piles of dirt and rock were still heaped on either side.
Zhao Hongbing directed the soldiers with the cleanup, his eyes following the transport vehicles as they passed.
’Every one of those trucks is filled with the army’s new blood.’
"Company Commander Zhao, isn’t that Camp Commander Lu? And that female hooligan!"
