Chapter 147: 147 - This Is Your Honor
As a person who had only ever heard of angels but never had the chance to meet one, Mark naturally couldn't think that what Nexus said was meant literally.
He thought 'little angel' was a phrase Nexus used to refer to his feelings for Lailah, rather than believing Lailah was actually an angel.
The truth was that Lailah really was a little angel in Nexus's eyes because Nexus was on equal footing with Michael and Lucifer.
"So the relationship between you two is..."
Mark was about to say it, but he felt that this was still too unbelievable for him to actually say it out loud. Besides, what if he said something wrong and got punished? Wouldn't he just be making things hard for himself?
"That's exactly how it is."
Nexus laughed slyly while hugging Lailah even tighter. Lailah didn't resist either, which made Mark even more confused.
Of course, Mark had it all wrong. Lailah simply didn't care. She was an angel, and her love for humanity was immense, but there was no personal kind of love like the one Mark was thinking of.
As for Nexus, he wouldn't fall in love either, but for a different reason. Even before he was born, that strongest cultivator of all time already had this kind of thinking.
A question was also an affirmation of his level, and that was: who in this world had the qualifications to stand on equal footing with him?
Because of that absolute arrogance that could only be greater than the system and never inferior to it, it was only natural that no matter how many eras that cultivator lived through, he remained single. He didn't even have any friends, let alone fall in love.
"What are you still standing there for? Don't you know to come over and rub your master's feet? What kind of disciple are you?"
"You... you're really my master?"
This strange request from Nexus immediately made Mark frown. Nexus's personality was so strange that Mark couldn't understand him at all, but Mark was sure his master wasn't anything like this arrogant young man.
"A disobedient disciple deserves to be punished."
Nexus frowned and reached out to grab at the air. A plastic soda bottle cap appeared in the palm of his hand as if he were performing a magic trick.
With a snap of his fingers, the cap flew as fast as an arrow, hitting Mark right in the forehead and leaving a red circle.
"Damn it!"
Mark held his forehead and rolled around on the floor. This move from Nexus had clearly secretly interfered somewhere. The injury wasn't too serious, but it hurt like hell.
"Stop rolling around. Just becoming my disciple means you're already luckier than most mortals in this world. Getting to rub my feet is your honor."
Nexus looked smug and proud. His eyes looked at his disciple rolling around as if he were watching a circus performance.
Mark's face twisted into an ugly expression. One reason was the pain; the other was confusion. What exactly made Nexus change into this?
"Master, where is the system?"
"Just call it enthusiastically enough, and it'll answer you."
Nexus was too lazy to explain the system's situation. Even if the system was offline, it was only conditionally offline. The moment someone flattered it, it would immediately start working again.
"Greatest system in the universe, where are you?"
Before the system even appeared, Mark saw a black shoe sole appear in front of his eyes. The black sole, clean without a speck of dust, belonging to Nexus, stomped straight into Mark's face.
No blood, no facial deformation. No physical damage, but the humiliation was extremely high.
Mark's brain seemed to temporarily shut down in the face of his master's completely unreasonable behavior.
"You must remember that only I am great here. The system is just a useless slime plush, and Ziz is a useless fat black chicken."
Nexus stood in front of Mark at an almost teleportation speed. With the foot stepping on Mark's face still refusing to come down, he raised his chin and spoke arrogantly.
[You bastard, Master! How dare you call me a 'useless slime plush'? I agree that what you said about Ziz is correct, but what you said about me is completely wrong.]
The slime plush that Lailah was holding suddenly flew straight over to Nexus's side. Even using a slime plush as its body, the system still didn't need a mouth to speak.
Nexus glanced at the system with a glare before lowering his foot. Now it was Mark's turn to widen his eyes when he saw the system's completely new cute appearance.
"Why did the system end up like this?'
[What else could it be? Everything is because of that useless master messing around. My perfect and great state was replaced by this inferior physical body by him.]
The more the system thought about it, the angrier it got. The round eyes on the slime plush had several more crosses appear in them to show the system's anger.
"I have two rules. First, I am always right. Second, if you think I'm wrong, then think about the first rule again."
Is this called announcing rules? There weren't any rules here at all. Nexus was the rule. If he said it was right, then it was right. If he said it was wrong, then it was wrong.
Want to argue back? Unless you were stronger than the current Nexus, everything Nexus said was 'truth'.
You didn't need to be particularly smart to figure out what had happened, so Mark had definitely already guessed.
With the system's arrogant personality clashing with someone like Nexus who was even more arrogant and had more power, it wasn't hard to imagine what could happen.
The system saw that talking was useless, so it got angry and flew back into Lailah's arms before going offline. At the very least, being in the angel's arms was still better than looking at Nexus's damn face.
"Master, since you're standing here already, do I still need to rub your feet?"
Having understood part of Nexus's current personality, Mark naturally wouldn't say anything stupid anymore. Nexus before didn't know how to hate anyone, but the current Nexus clearly did.
If Mark talked nonsense that displeased Nexus, there was a good chance Nexus would punish him enough to make him remember it for the rest of his life.
