Chapter 129: The Third Disciple
This sudden invitation caught Emily completely off guard. She hadn’t even introduced herself yet, so how had Nexus already invited her?
Although she was confused, Emily’s serious work mindset immediately kicked into high gear.
Nexus was so mysterious that he had to be extremely powerful. From that, it could be deduced that the reason Mark had been able to survive and leave the dungeon was because he had a master backing him, not because some monster had suddenly felt like playing around.
But Mark’s miserable state after leaving the dungeon made Emily frown even more. Was there really a master who treated their disciple like this?
What was even stranger was that although Mark was very weak, when he looked at his master or the system, there wasn’t the slightest bit of resentment in his eyes. There were times when he wanted to curse, but he had never forgotten who his greatest benefactor was, the one who had given him the chance to change his life.
"Although I really want to agree, can’t you introduce yourself in more detail? My first impression of you is that you turned your disciple into a vegetable and didn’t allow anyone to save him."
Although she didn’t know the reason behind all this, Emily was still very cautious. What if she somehow annoyed Nexus, and then ended up as a vegetable for several years? Who would she even cry to then?
[Hahaha, weak mortal, you made this great system laugh itself to death. Do you think we were bored enough to just leave him seriously injured like that for no reason? That was part of Mark’s lesson. Because he was lacking, he had to learn this way so he could improve faster. Who has the time to wait a few decades for him to improve?]
Before Nexus could explain, the system cut in. After all, this really did touch on its pride.
"There’s actually a lesson like this?"
The corner of Emily’s mouth twitched. The way an immortal entity thought seemed to be a little different from the way mortals thought.
But if she tried to look at it from a more positive angle, Nexus and the system weren’t really some great villains either. Just now, they had clearly healed Mark very quickly, so quickly that she didn’t even understand what had happened.
"Don’t worry. You meet the requirements, just like White. So you don’t need as many lessons as Mark. Of course, you should still experience dying a few thousand times mentally first. Once you complete it, that’ll be it."
Nexus said with a smile, as if dying a few thousand times was nothing. For him, that was indeed the case, but for Emily, it was a huge problem.
"Are you kidding me?"
Emily was startled and took a step back. Was there really a master who, right after meeting their future disciple, would say they wanted to kill her a few thousand times as a test?
Although she didn’t understand what Nexus meant by killing, she could at least tell that it wasn’t real death. Even if it wasn’t real death, it still wasn’t something pleasant.
"It’s not real death. It’s just to see whether your mental strength is stable. White completed it pretty easily."
Nexus immediately used White as an example. But this example was actually pretty unfair. If Emily belonged to the elite, then White was truly at the top of the world. Basically, no matter how they were compared, these two weren’t even in the same ’weight class’.
"You keep mentioning White. Could this White be someone I know?"
Hearing this name, Emily immediately thought of someone. But there were plenty of people in this world with the same name, so she didn’t dare to be certain.
"That’s right. It’s the S-rank White you know. She’s my second disciple."
"What?!"
It wasn’t just Emily. Mark also stared with his mouth wide open. Who could have imagined that the first disciple was a trashy F-rank while the second disciple was a peak S-rank?
Mark’s luck was truly incredible. He clearly had no strength, yet his circle of connections was filled with too many world-class figures.
Hearing that White had joined, Emily had more faith in Nexus. After all, in her eyes, White was one of the most trustworthy people in this world. If she had accepted Nexus, then Nexus definitely wasn’t that bad.
But before agreeing to find herself a master, Emily thought she should ask for some benefits. She didn’t need material things, but she really wanted the knowledge she needed.
"What can you teach me? I mean what I need, not those other things."
"Remember one thing. Whether you’re my disciple specifically or a disciple of the Cultivation Academy in general, cultivating must always be your top priority. Of course, other than cultivating, whatever you want me to teach you, I can teach."
As he spoke, Nexus conjured a book and waved it back and forth in front of Emily, making her stare intently at the cover.
It read ’A Complete Collection of the Universe’s Best Tea Brewing Recipes’. The moment Emily saw the title, her eyes lit up.
"Master, please accept this disciple’s bow."
She had seemed so cautious just moments ago, yet now she was about to immediately kowtow and accept Nexus as her master.
Nexus immediately stopped her body in midair. It wasn’t that he wouldn’t accept her bow, the problem was that she wanted to bow to the book he was holding.
Emily’s way of thinking really wasn’t normal. Especially when it came to anything related to tea, she was even more abnormal. But Nexus didn’t dislike her because of it.
"No need to bow, just complete your lesson first."
Nexus didn’t need to come up with anything new. He directly recreated White’s lesson once again, except this time, Emily was the one completing it.
The requirements were indeed a little lower, so Emily didn’t need to count. As long as her mind was still fine after experiencing it, that was enough. Nexus was still very fair. He wasn’t going to demand an A-rank to have the same mental strength as an S-rank.
"Damn it! If I hadn’t raided high-level dungeons so many times before, I would’ve really gone crazy from this."
Emily was stunned for a few seconds before gasping for breath. Her heartbeat immediately shot up to the point where even an A-rank like her felt a slight pain in her chest.
