Chapter 128: Nexus Recruits Emily
The more Mark told Emily about cultivation, the more surprised she became. But after learning everything, her expression was no different from Bell’s or White’s. She simply pouted and complained that cultivation took too much time.
"What’s so good about this? Isn’t it just living longer without dying? In this world, who with any knowledge wouldn’t know that heaven and hell exist? The path to heaven is much faster than becoming an immortal as you said."
The time needed to become an immortal was indeed extremely long. The process was naturally incredibly boring too, because immortals wouldn’t be able to fight like cultivators.
On top of that, absorbing a huge amount of cosmic power was no different from draining the surrounding galaxies dry. Emily naturally didn’t like doing something so immoral either.
"Are you really going to criticize it this bluntly?"
Looking at her disgusted expression, Mark suddenly felt that he probably shouldn’t tell her the details of what he had been through.
Just now, Mark had indeed talked about cultivation, but he mainly talked about it in general and from a conceptual perspective, not about his personal experiences.
Which one of the lessons he had been through was a good thing? The third lesson had indeed started out as a disaster, but at least he was lucky that everything turned out well afterward. As for the first two lessons, even if he were paid, Mark wouldn’t go through them again.
"Don’t you think it takes too much time? If I go into seclusion to cultivate for several decades, how many people will die because they don’t get treated in time? Not to mention dying, there are also permanent injuries."
Don’t assume that just because Emily was passionate about tea, she neglected her work. She could still clearly distinguish between public matters and private matters.
If Emily’s sense of responsibility wasn’t high enough, she wouldn’t have been able to stay and work in the Hunter Association for so long.
"It doesn’t take that much time. There is a faster way, but I can’t do it. That is..."
Mark began telling her about spiritual herbs. For an F-rank hunter like him, it was probably impossible, but an A-rank hunter like Emily should have a chance of gathering enough spiritual herbs.
[Hahaha, the useless mortal is finally starting to become useful. He actually knows to help us recruit a disciple too. At least his eyes aren’t blind because Emily is clearly much better than him. Very creative, very persistent on her own path. Her ability is decent, but I don’t know if her attitude is suitable or not?]
The system was very satisfied seeing Mark make the reputation of the Cultivation Academy grow louder and louder.
The so-called suitable attitude the system mentioned was the disciple’s unconditional worship of the system.
Of course, no one had truly satisfied it yet. Mark did flatter it, but he wasn’t devout enough. As for White... she had absolutely no intention of flattering the system even a little.
"Has disciple position number three been unlocked?"
Nexus wasn’t surprised when he looked at the system. He knew very well that the system would unlock things whenever it felt like it, so he didn’t care much.
[Of course it’s been unlocked. Trashy master, do you want to recruit her? I think you should try because she’s still a better choice than Mark after all.]
The system was arrogant, but it wasn’t stupid. The logic was very simple. If people who already had a reputation were willing to become disciples of the Cultivation Academy, that would be the most convincing proof of the academy’s greatness.
Nexus naturally understood this little scheme of the system with just one glance. As for Emily, he was a little interested in her. Mainly because of her tea-making rather than the ability she possessed.
Most of her life had been spent researching how to make a type of tea that seemingly no one except her could understand.
Nexus felt that she had the potential to open up her own path. Of course, this path didn’t require cultivation to pursue.
"White still needs some more time, but she’ll definitely break through and can’t possibly fail. It’s still better to go recruit a disciple."
Nexus turned around and immediately disappeared along with the system.
At the moment, Emily felt that using spiritual herbs seemed pretty decent. She didn’t dare guarantee it would work if she needed too many, but if she spent everything she had, along with her own reputation, buying ten spiritual herbs was still very possible.
Before she could even think about how to become Nexus’s disciple, Nexus and the system immediately appeared in front of her.
Nexus suddenly appeared without releasing even the slightest energy fluctuation, making Emily instantly become alert. She immediately put some distance between herself and Nexus, then stared at him with a wary look.
But when she saw that Mark looked confused yet wasn’t surprised at all, Emily immediately guessed who this person was.
"You’re Nexus, right? The one who became Mark’s master?"
[Hmph, short-sighted mortal. The greatest system in the universe is appearing right in front of you, so why can your eyes only see that trashy master? Since this is your first time, I’ll reluctantly forgive you. Remember, there won’t be a next time.]
Before Nexus could even greet her, the system had already jumped up and bombarded Emily with a string of arrogant words.
What the hell is this? Why is it putting me down the moment we meet, and what does it mean by insulting me like this?
Emily was confused because Mark had only told her about Nexus, but he hadn’t mentioned the system at all. More precisely, Mark didn’t dare tell her the truth because he now knew that the system could hear everything he said no matter how far away he was.
"Don’t scare her like that. Hello, I’m Nexus. Judging by what you just said, you already know who I am, right? Then I won’t beat around the bush. Do you want to become my disciple?"
As always, Nexus’s way of recruiting disciples was extremely straightforward. Nexus’s brand advertising skills deserved a failing grade.
