Chapter 91 - 92 : Fooled
Yuji scratched his cheek awkwardly. "...Uh, thanks?"
Megumi didn’t react at all. He simply glanced at Nobara before looking away.
Nobara frowned. "What? That’s it?" She pointed at herself. "A beautiful girl joins your team and neither of you has anything to say?"
Yuji smiled awkwardly. "I mean... welcome?"
Nobara let out a sigh. "Hopeless."
Satomi watched with an amused smile.
"Alright, that’s enough." She looked at the three first-years. "Since two of you are new to Tokyo, we’ll take a look around the city first."
Yuji’s eyes immediately lit up. "Really?"
Nobara tried to remain composed, but the excitement on her face was obvious. "Tokyo!"
The two of them spent the entire walk imagining famous shopping districts and bright streets they had only seen on television.
Then Satomi stopped.
The smiles on their faces instantly froze.
Standing before them wasn’t a shopping district or a famous landmark. It was an abandoned building. Shattered windows, vines covering the walls, an oppressive cursed presence seeping from inside.
Yuji slowly looked at the building. Nobara looked at the building. Then both turned toward Satomi with identical deadpan expressions.
"You blindfolded freak!" Nobara shouted, pointing at her. "Who brings country folk to a place like this for sightseeing?!"
Yuji nodded immediately. "I was expecting Tokyo Tower or at least Roppongi!"
Satomi smiled innocently. "I did say we’d be touring Tokyo." She pointed at the abandoned building. "This is in Tokyo."
Their expressions became even deader.
Megumi sighed quietly. "I told you not to get your hopes up."
Satomi looked at the building. "Enough sightseeing. A curse has occupied this building." She turned back toward the three first-years. "Your first practical lesson starts now."
"Why do curses appear in abandoned buildings like this?" Asked Yuji.
Megumi looked at the building before speaking.
"Curses are born from negative emotions. Places like hospitals, schools, and cemeteries naturally gather fear, grief, and resentment. Over time, those emotions accumulate and give birth to curses."
Nobara looked at him with a puzzled expression.
"...Wait." She frowned. "How does a Jujutsu High student not already know something that basic?" She looked directly at Yuji.
"Didn’t they teach you anything?"
Yuji scratched his cheek. "I only became a jujutsu sorcerer a couple of days ago."
Nobara blinked. "...What?"
Satomi smiled. "He swallowed Sukuna’s finger."
Nobara’s eyes widened. "You did what?"
Yuji laughed awkwardly. "I ate it."
Nobara’s face twisted in disgust. "You actually swallowed that disgusting thing?"
"It wasn’t exactly by choice..."
"I don’t care if it was by choice or not! That’s revolting."
Yuji lowered his head. "...It really tasted awful."
Satomi reached into her coat and pulled out a short black knife before tossing it to Yuji. He caught it with both hands.
"This is a cursed tool. The Slaughter Demon. The blade has been imbued with cursed energy, allowing it to exorcise curses."
Her expression became serious. "And one more rule — you’re not allowed to rely on Sukuna. If you encounter a curse, you’ll deal with it using your own strength and that knife."
Yuji nodded. "I understand."
Satomi looked at both Yuji and Nobara. "This is your field test. Enter the building. Exorcise every curse inside."
Nobara smiled confidently. "Sounds easy enough." She started walking toward the entrance. Yuji quickly followed. Megumi stepped forward.
"I’ll go with them."
Satomi held out an arm, stopping him. "No."
Megumi looked at her. "They’re both inexperienced."
"I know. That’s exactly why they’re going in alone." She kept watching the two disappear through the entrance. "This test isn’t about whether they can defeat curses. It’s about seeing what kind of sorcerers they’ll become."
Megumi said nothing more.
"And isn’t it about time you stopped sneaking around?" Satomi said, looking toward a nearby tree and giving a playful wink through her glasses. "I didn’t know you had a habit of stalking people. Did you miss me?"
Megumi frowned. "...There’s no one there."
A few seconds later, Mark casually walked out from an alley with his paper bag. "I saw something interesting, so I followed." He shrugged. "Besides, I was bored."
A grin spread across Satomi’s face. Without hesitation, she held out her hand toward the bag.
Mark glanced at her hand, then immediately slapped it away. "Get your own."
Satomi looked at him as though he’d said something ridiculous. "I am." She pointed at the bag. "You bought those with my money. I let you use my credit card." She folded her arms with a satisfied smile. "So technically... those sweets are mine."
Mark stared at her for several seconds, completely speechless. He tried to think of a counterargument and found absolutely nothing.
"...That’s the most shameless thing I’ve heard all day."
"I prefer ’perfectly reasonable.’"
Before he could react, Satomi casually snatched the bag from his hands.
Mark watched it disappear into her grasp and looked completely dumbfounded. "...You actually believe that logic?"
Satomi opened the bag, took out one of the handcrafted sweets, and smiled with obvious satisfaction. "I do. And since they’re mine..." She took a bite. "...thank you for carrying them for me."
