THE BOYS: The Wrong Main Character

Chapter 74 : New Templates

THE BOYS: The Wrong Main Character

"Well, that went better than I expected," Mark muttered.

He crossed the rooftops until the sirens faded into the distance.

His objective had never been to kill Homelander. He only wanted the entire country to witness one thing — the strongest hero in America could be beaten.

As for the Compound V fallout, that was Vought’s problem now. He couldn’t wait to see how they’d try to convince the public that everything was still under control after today.

He stopped on a deserted rooftop, pulled off his mask, and lowered his hood.

The familiar black screen appeared.

"Let’s see what my popularity count looks like."

[Popularity Count: 26,000,000]

Mark stared at the number for a second. A grin spread slowly across his face.

"Fuck yeah."

The gacha interface opened on its own.

[Unique Template Draw Cost: 5,000,000 Popularity Points]

[Available Draws: 5]

"Five unique pulls..." He rubbed his hands together. "System, you there?"

[As always.]

Mark rolled his eyes. "Then quit acting mysterious and start the unique pulls."

[Beginning Unique Template Draw...]

The black panel filled with swirling lights. Two golden templates slowly emerged from the darkness.

The first showed a man in a green jumpsuit with thick eyebrows and a bowl haircut.

[Unique Template: Might Guy]

[Status: Active]

[Evaluation: Extraordinary taijutsu master. Eight Gates permanently unlocked.]

Mark stared at it for a few seconds. "...Strong." A pause. "But for me, not that useful."

His current style revolved around Infinity, Future Vision, and spatial manipulation. Pure physical combat wasn’t something he relied on anymore.

Still, he couldn’t deny how terrifying the template was — once all Eight Gates opened, Might Guy reached a level of physical power that even the strongest opponents acknowledged. The drawback was equally obvious.

"Fortunately I have Reverse Cursed Technique," Mark muttered. "The Eight Gates damage shouldn’t be a problem."

The second card floated forward. A silver-haired young man surrounded by eternal flames.

[Unique Template: Agni]

[Status: Locked]

[Unlock Requirement: Host must experience death once.]

[Evaluation: Grants an immortal body with extreme regeneration. The host will continuously burn under inextinguishable flames while remaining alive.]

Mark’s expression became complicated. "...Yeah. That’s horrifying."

He remembered exactly who Agni was he was from the manga Fire Punch.

The regeneration bordered on absurd — limbs, organs, even the head could regenerate. As long as something remained, death was almost impossible. Genuine immortality. The problem was everything else. The flames never went out. The pain never stopped.

"I actually wanted this template," Mark admitted. "The regeneration is insane." He looked at the unlock requirement again. "But burning forever? No thanks."

He selected Might Guy. The golden card dissolved into countless particles and merged into his body. The surge wasn’t explosive — it felt like his body had inherited decades of relentless training. Mark slowly clenched his fist.

"Not bad."

The remaining card faded. "Next pull."

The panel rippled again. Two more golden templates emerged.

The first showed a young woman in a denim jacket decorated with stars.

[Unique Template: America Chavez]

[Status: Active]

[Evaluation: Possesses the unique ability to open portals across the Multiverse.]

Mark’s eyes paused on the last line. "Multiverse travel..." He nodded. "That alone is enough to make it Unique."

The second card drifted forward. A silver-haired young man in a long red coat, a massive sword resting over his shoulder.

[Unique Template: Ragna the Bloodedge]

[Status: Active]

[Evaluation: Wields the Azure Grimoire. The host gains access to its abilities at the cost of gradually placing greater strain on the body. Excessive use may lead to loss of control.]

Mark read it twice. "The Grim Reaper..."

He knew enough about BlazBlue to understand what that meant.

Ragna wasn’t simply a swordsman — the Azure Grimoire granted monstrous physical ability, rapid regeneration, and the power to consume life force.

More importantly, many of his attacks targeted the soul directly rather than damaging the body. Against opponents relying on conventional defenses, that was terrifying.

But he knew Ragna’s history just as well. The Grimoire constantly corroded the body over time and dragged the user into endless battles. Ragna had spent most of his life paying for that strength.

"Yeah..." He looked at the other card. "Multiverse travel sounds a lot more useful right now."

He selected America Chavez. The card dissolved into light and merged into his body. For a brief instant, space itself felt strangely familiar — as though countless invisible paths now existed around him.

The Ragna template faded back into the darkness.

"What a shame," Mark muttered. "Maybe next time."

He knew exactly why the system had classified Ragna as a Unique template. Compared to someone like Gojo, Ragna operated on an entirely different scale.

"But..."

Mark’s expression became serious.

"If that power ever goes completely out of control..."

He remembered the ending that haunted Ragna’s story.

"...the Black Beast."

It wasn’t simply another monster.

It was a calamity capable of bringing the world to ruin.

The same template that offered overwhelming power also carried the possibility of creating one of the greatest disasters imaginable.

Mark let out a quiet sigh.

"Yeah... that’s one hell of a double-edged sword."
