Chapter 142 - 105: This Company is Way Too Good-Looking
He couldn’t help but chuckle at his own words. Waving a hand dismissively, he said in a half-joking tone, "Worst-case scenario, the project falls through. I’ll just consider this ten thousand yuan my own money, spent on a ticket for a top-tier academic performance. No regrets!"
Luo Qin: "..."
’Good lord, is the world of the rich always this plain and dull?’
Luo Qin silently fumed.
’Just to satisfy his own curiosity, he casually throws away ten thousand yuan without even batting an eye.’
’Then again,’ Luo Qin thought, ’for someone who made almost two million last year in salary and stock dividends alone, ten thousand yuan is probably like me spending a hundred on a new mouse.’
After all, this boss and mentor of his was a bona fide tech fanatic. Otherwise, he never would have become the Vice President of Technology R&D before he was even forty.
Seeing that Luo Qin had fallen silent, clearly accepting his reasoning, Tao Wei picked up his phone again, found Sun Yu’s number, and dialed it directly.
The call connected quickly. Tao Wei didn’t waste any time, getting straight to the point. "Sun, right? This is Tao Wei from Era of Creation. Send over that testing service contract now. I’ll sign it immediately."
With that said, he hung up crisply.
Less than thirty seconds later, with a DING, a PDF file arrived in his phone’s inbox.
Tao Wei forwarded the file to his work computer and printed it out. He pulled a pen from the pen holder, glanced over the contract’s details, then flipped straight to the last page and signed his name with a flourish.
After signing, he tossed the contract aside and ordered Luo Qin, "Scan this and send it back to them. Then file the original."
"Yes, President Tao," Luo Qin responded immediately, taking the contract and walking over to the multifunction printer in the corner of the office.
Scanning, emailing, filing the original—the workflow was seamless.
After that was done, Tao Wei gave Luo Qin another direct order: "Tell finance to wire ten thousand yuan to this Yanhai Company right now. Use the express channel."
"Yes, President Tao."
Luo Qin immediately accepted the order and left the office.
Just a few minutes after the money was transferred, as if Sun Yu’s side had been timing it with a stopwatch, a new email appeared right on cue in Tao Wei’s inbox.
The attachments were several image files, bluntly named: "[Era of Creation Test Solution Process]."
"They’re pretty efficient."
Tao Wei muttered to himself, a hint of anticipation on his face, as he moved the mouse and clicked open the email.
Several high-definition photos, taken with a phone, immediately filled his computer screen.
The background of the photos appeared to be a brand-new office desk. The subject was several sheets of A4 scratch paper, completely covered in writing.
The handwriting was flamboyant, with a carefree, unrestrained air, yet every mathematical symbol and letter was perfectly clear, not hindering readability in the slightest.
Tao Wei’s gaze started from the first line of formulas and slowly moved down.
At first, his expression was one of scrutiny and curiosity. But as he read further, his composure gradually vanished, replaced by a deepening solemnity.
When he saw the three parallel error function models Chen Lin had provided, especially the final neural network model that had been coded from scratch, he subconsciously sat bolt upright, his eyes glued to the screen, his breathing growing ragged.
Luo Qin had just finished speaking with the finance department. As he pushed the door open and walked in, he saw his boss looking as if he were facing a formidable enemy.
His heart skipped a beat. He quickly stepped forward and asked with concern, "President Tao, what is it? Is there a problem with their solution?"
’Did it all blow up in our faces? Was that university student who looked so damn impressive in the video actually all flash and no substance?’
Tao Wei didn’t answer him. He just reached out and quickly performed a few actions on the computer.
The multifunction printer in the corner, which had been on standby, immediately began to WHIR to life.
A few seconds later, several sheets of A4 paper, still warm, slowly slid out of the output tray.
Printed on them was none other than Chen Lin’s solution process.
"Take this," Tao Wei looked up, his gaze burning as he looked at his assistant, and ordered, "and show it to Old Fan immediately."
Old Fan, Fan Jianjun, the Chief Algorithm Engineer of Era of Creation’s Technology R&D Department, and the department’s undisputed number one technical expert.
"Right away!"
Although Luo Qin was full of questions, he gave a crisp "yes," took the papers, and hurried out of the office.
Silence returned to Tao Wei’s office.
He didn’t look at the solution on the screen again. Instead, he leaned back slowly in his chair and let out a long, heavy breath.
He finally understood now why Peng Yifeng had used that "I’ve struck gold" tone when he recommended this obscure little company.
...
「Less than ten minutes later.」
BANG!
The office door was thrown open from the outside, slamming against the wall with a tremendous crash.
A middle-aged man in his forties, his hair thinning on top, burst in like a gust of wind. He was clutching the printed papers tightly, his face a complex mixture of shock, ecstasy, and disbelief.
It was Old Fan.
Seeing his frantic appearance, Tao Wei broke into a smile. He unhurriedly picked up his teacup and teased, "Old Fan, what’s the big deal? You’re going to break the door."
