Chapter 398: Life and Death in an Instant
"Master, since you want to develop your own power, why not first forge a Corpse Slave Army to serve as the Dragon Sect’s trump card?"
’A Corpse Slave Army?’
Long Ao had, of course, considered this, but creating a Corpse Slave Army was easier said than done.
"Long Fu, let’s be blunt. I’ve thought about this before. Just as you said, I’d love to build a Corpse Slave Army. I have no problem whatsoever hunting Spirit Beasts; it all mainly depends on you."
Long Ao was very confident in his own strength. As long as he didn’t encounter a World King Spirit Beast, killing Spirit Beasts below the Great Venerable Realm was more than manageable.
Long Ao’s only worry was Long Fu. After all, the Dragon Seal Space had still not recovered to its Peak. ’If it has to continuously refine Soul Slaves or Corpse Slaves, can it handle the strain?’
On one hand was the Corpse Slave Army; on the other was Long Fu and the Dragon Seal Space. If forced to choose, Long Ao would definitely not choose the Corpse Slave Army.
"Master, you can rest assured on this point. Refining Soul Slaves and Corpse Slaves is still well within my capabilities."
Hearing this, it would be a lie to say Long Ao wasn’t tempted.
Long Ao knew very well that if he could really forge an invincible Corpse Slave Army, it would be a tremendous help to the Dragon Sect’s development. As for the City of Sin, it would be mere child’s play in the face of such an army.
All this time, Long Ao had felt it was too much to ask for a Corpse Slave Army, but now that Long Fu had brought it up himself, the implications were completely different.
"Master, I can help you forge a Corpse Slave Army. But as for the City of Sin, do you still plan to take it over?"
Of course, Long Ao knew exactly what Long Fu was implying.
Before this, Long Ao would never have considered giving up on the City of Sin. After all, its power was undeniable.
But now, the situation was completely different. Before a Corpse Slave Army, the City of Sin seemed utterly insignificant.
A Corpse Slave Army on one hand, the City of Sin on the other. It was a no-brainer; Long Ao would choose the Corpse Slave Army one hundred percent of the time over the City of Sin.
’So, should I just give up on the City of Sin now?’
But he had come here specifically for the City of Sin. To give it up just like that... he couldn’t accept it.
After mulling it over, Long Ao decided not to give up on the City of Sin. He would still conquer it.
The reason was simple.
Long Ao had already considered the future of his family and the Sect. No matter what, they couldn’t stay in the Ordinary Spirit Realm forever; eventually, they would have to enter the Kyushu Spirit Realm.
The Celestial Martial Continent was divided into upper and lower regions: the Ordinary Spirit Realm and the Kyushu Spirit Realm.
The greatest difference between the two Spirit Realms was the density of Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi. For this very reason, Long Ao had already decided that he would one day move his family and the Sect from the Ordinary Spirit Realm into the Kyushu Spirit Realm.
"Long Fu, I’m still not prepared to give up on the City of Sin."
"Alright, Master. No matter how many Spirit Beasts you kill, I will refine them into Soul Slaves or Corpse Slaves for you as quickly as possible. I believe that in about a year, you’ll possess an invincible Corpse Slave Army. At that point, sweeping across the Kyushu Continent will be no problem at all."
Nodding, Long Ao left the Dragon Seal Space. He glanced at the enormous forest before him and, without further hesitation, stepped into the Dark Forest.
The Dark Forest. Its pitch-black canopy blotted out the sky, allowing no sunlight to penetrate.
SWOOSH, SWOOSH, SWOOSH.
He had barely stepped into the Dark Forest when, perhaps because his luck was just too good, Long Ao encountered three Lightning Dragon Horses. They were so fast that all he could see were phantom blurs of wind.
They were Great Venerable Spirit Beasts, and Lightning Dragon Horses known for their speed no less. Long Ao was astonished, because Dragon Horses were an offshoot of the Giant Dragon Race and possessed Giant Dragon Blood.
Long Ao wouldn’t have feared an ordinary Spirit Beast, but the Lightning Dragon Horses were another matter entirely. They were too fast, giving him no chance to react as they launched a vicious assault.
In just a few seconds, Long Ao was struck hundreds of times. His entire body was drenched in blood, making him look like a man made of it.
Greatly alarmed, Long Ao didn’t dare hesitate. If this continued, he would eventually be beaten to death by the Lightning Dragon Horses. Yet he felt powerless, for the three beasts were simply too fast—absurdly so.
With no other choice, Long Ao could only unleash his Heaven and Earth’s Momentum, forming a protective Qi Shield around his body. Sure enough, the momentum instantly blocked the relentless attacks of the three Lightning Dragon Horses.
The Lightning Dragon Horses roared furiously, but they dared not approach the Qi Shield formed by the Heaven and Earth’s Momentum.
Seizing the opportunity, Long Ao refused to just sit and wait for death. He immediately launched a Soul Attack, but the three Lightning Dragon Horses were too fast, and his attack missed every time.
The God-Locking Pearl and the Godslaying Mirror! Two strange powers spread out, enveloping the three Lightning Dragon Horses. As they locked onto the beasts, they instantly altered the flow of time, enacting a Time Reversal of a full three seconds.
Taking advantage of those three seconds of reversal, Long Ao struck.
But Long Ao had still underestimated the speed and power of the three Lightning Dragon Horses. In just a single second, they broke free from the Time Reversal. Immediately after, the three beasts resumed their assault, their attacks even more ruthless than before. Each strike was more vicious than the last, clearly aimed at killing him.
Long Ao was frustrated beyond belief. ’My luck is absolutely rotten. I barely step into the Dark Forest and I run into three powerful Lightning Dragon Horses.’
As he was viciously attacked again, he knew that if it weren’t for the protection of his Desolate Sacred Body, he would have been killed long ago.
But even so, Long Ao knew with perfect clarity that if this kept up, he would eventually be killed by the three Lightning Dragon Horses.
’Am I going to die here?’
He wouldn’t accept it, and he wouldn’t give up. That was Long Ao’s nature. No matter the difficulty or danger, he had never given up—not in the past, not now, and he never would in the future.
He lashed out wildly with his fists, one punch after another. But wherever his Fist Force passed, it only struck empty air. He couldn’t see the three Lightning Dragon Horses at all; he couldn’t even land a hit on their afterimages.
’This speed is terrifying.’
Just then, a Dragon’s Roar and Tiger’s Howl echoed out. A black Giant Dragon and a massive Black Tiger suddenly appeared, flanking the Lightning Dragon Horses and pouncing directly at them.
The three Lightning Dragon Horses never expected a Giant Dragon and a Black Tiger to suddenly appear. Not daring to be careless, the five Spirit Beasts instantly clashed. The speeds of Long Ming and Long Qiang were both incredible, far beyond anything Long Ao could match. Because of this, it was no longer possible for the three Lightning Dragon Horses to win by relying on speed alone.
Overjoyed, Long Ao realized something he’d never expected: Long Qiang and Long Ming were the perfect counter to the three Lightning Dragon Horses.
