Chapter 90: Bro, I Was a Little Loud Just Now
'The Witch Race?'
'It's connected to the Witch Race again!'
A grave expression settled on Zhou Fan's face. 'It seems I'm caught in the middle of a conspiracy!'
…
"Oh, and while I'm away, if that Wang Tianhao asks you to discuss business again, you're not to go. Got it?" Back at home, Zhou Fan warned Chu Yan.
"Hehe, my husband's getting jealous again!"
"I don't care, you're not allowed to go. Otherwise, when I get back, I'll have to punish you!"
"We have family rules? How come I didn't know? What are they?" Chu Yan giggled, then leaned in and bit down on Zhou Fan's left shoulder, leaving a perfect set of teeth marks.
"Whoa, what are you, a puppy?" Zhou Fan cried out in mock pain, playing along as he gave her a light slap on the behind.
"Husband, you have to be careful. I don't want you coming back covered in injuries again!" After they'd horsed around for a bit, Chu Yan's eyes filled with worry as she gently straightened Zhou Fan's clothes.
"Don't worry. You know me, right? I'm invincible!" Zhou Fan boasted shamelessly, sweeping Chu Yan into his arms as his hand slid under her clothes.
"How long will you be gone?"
"Three to five days, more or less. It won't be too long," Zhou Fan said with a smile.
When Fan arrived with his men, Zhou Fan patted Chu Yan on the behind. He wasn't taking anything with him, only his ever-present dagger, Black Edge.
"Don't worry, I've already told Lao San. He'll assign more people to protect your wife." Fan hadn't brought many people either. Besides himself and Xiaojiu, there were only three others, all of them masters.
"Thanks."
Zhou Fan nodded, got into the car, and they headed straight for the airport.
After a grueling fifteen or sixteen hours of travel, the group finally arrived in Luhe Town, a small town in the far north.
"Nannan, do you know why I brought you along this time?"
Acting on their intelligence, the group made their way to a spot not far from Li Yang and Wang Yun's residence. Zhou Fan turned to Xu Ruonan, whose expression was a mix of nervousness and anticipation.
Zhou Fan had made a special detour to pick her up before he left.
"Master, are you using this as an opportunity to give me some real-world experience?" Xu Ruonan asked tentatively after a moment of thought.
"Yes and no." Zhou Fan glanced around. The sky hadn't completely darkened yet, and they needed to wait for nightfall before making their move. He led Xu Ruonan to a secluded spot. "Actually, I have a master too. A master who seems completely flaky, but is incredibly powerful."
It happened the first day after an assassination attempt left him grievously wounded. He had washed ashore, and an old man appeared—an old man in a strange robe that was part Daoist, part monastic, with a long beard but very short hair.
The old man walked up to Zhou Fan and studied him for a long while, as if looking at some rare creature. Then, after muttering a few words to himself, he pressed his palm onto Zhou Fan's head.
The next thing he knew, Zhou Fan had inexplicably passed out again.
When he woke up, the old man was gone. All that remained was a cryptic passage of text in his mind, along with a fragment of what seemed like a vision.
"I, Cangsong, hereby take you as my closed-door disciple. I bestow upon you our sect's Supreme Heart Method. Cultivate it well, and do not disgrace the honor of the Longevity Sect!"
At first, Zhou Fan thought he had just been hallucinating due to his severe injuries. But as he slowly recovered, he came to accept it as reality.
'But seriously, what kind of way was that to take on a disciple? He just says he's taking me in, and that's that?'
'And he didn't even give me anything good?'
'And that bullshit Supreme Heart Method… The name sounded impressive enough—the Longevity Technique—but how the hell was he supposed to cultivate it?'
It wasn't until three months after returning to Nanjiang City that Zhou Fan discovered it wasn't that he couldn't cultivate it. He just needed to be fully healed and have his strength restored to its peak. This became the most important reason he was so determined to recover.
A few days ago, he had tried cultivating according to the Longevity Technique's method and was shocked to discover a new current of energy inside him. It seemed small, but his intuition told him it was incredibly powerful.
Inner Strength!
Moreover, Zhou Fan discovered that by cultivating this, both his speed and power had become even more formidable than when he was at his previous peak.
"Master, I've memorized it!"
Zhou Fan didn't have the old man's ability to implant a long passage of text just by placing a palm on someone's head, so he could only recite a small section of the Heart Method for Xu Ruonan to memorize.
"Good. Sit here and try to cultivate for a bit. If there's anything you don't understand, just ask me," Zhou Fan said with a nod. He patted Xu Ruonan on the head, motioning for her to give it a try, then sat down to one side, bored.
Fan watched for a while and also grew bored. He told Xiaojiu to take the other three to keep watch, then walked over and sat down next to Zhou Fan.
"Have you no tact? Can't you see that master and disciple are having a private conversation here?" Zhou Fan shot Fan a look of disdain, taking a jab at him.
"I was going to tell you a secret, but if you're going to be like that, then forget it."
"Hey now, don't be like that, bro. I admit I was a little out of line. Go on, tell me!"
Zhou Fan was nothing if not adaptable. He looked at Fan with curiosity, wondering what this secret could be.
