Chapter 68: Don't Be Delusional, I Have a Wife
"Darling, it hurts... I can't move!" Chu Yan was on the verge of tears, her voice full of grievance. She had just wanted to go downstairs and make breakfast with Zhou Fan on what she considered the first day of them truly being together, but the pain was so sharp she almost cried out.
As the morning sun bathed the earth, its light filtering through the window and spilling onto the bed, Chu Yan pouted, her beautiful eyes filled with a mix of shyness, playful indignation, and happiness.
"Where does it hurt? Let me rub it better for you!" Zhou Fan asked, not catching on right away, his concern purely instinctual.
"You jerk! You big jerk! Where do you *think* it hurts? It's all your fault, you were so rough with me last night!" Chu Yan indignantly grabbed a pillow and smacked Zhou Fan with it. Then, she spread her arms and pouted. "Carry me to the bathroom!"
Knowing he was in the wrong, Zhou Fan didn't dare argue. He obediently carried Chu Yan and, like a servant, diligently helped her wash up before carrying her back to bed.
"You rest a little longer. I'll go make breakfast."
He tucked Chu Yan in, gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead, then got dressed and went downstairs.
However, the moment he started down the stairs, Zhou Fan froze, a bizarre expression crossing his face.
'What the hell?'
'How can I see what's happening inside my own body?'
Zhou Fan discovered that a Tai Chi Diagram had appeared inside him. One half black, one half white, it was slowly rotating within his body. He tried to control it but found it was completely beyond his command.
'Is this the power of the Bodhi Heart and the Nether River Dead Water?'
'Holy crap!'
'I just took things to the next level with my wife, don't do this to me now! Something else isn't going to go wrong, is it?'
Zhou Fan panicked. He pondered it for a long time but couldn't make heads or tails of it. Finally, he looked up at the sky and gave it the middle finger.
As he cooked, Zhou Fan kept thinking. He even mentally reviewed every medical text he had ever studied. Based on his medical knowledge, he finally came to a conclusion: it probably wasn't anything harmful.
After he finished cooking, Zhou Fan went back to the room to wake Chu Yan, only to find she was already awake. She was lying on her stomach, looking at him with a pitiful expression.
"Actually, honey, you can't really blame me for last night. That last time, I..."
"Don't you dare say it! It's your fault. Why didn't you tell me? It's not like I know anything about it!"
"So, are you still going to the office today?"
"I am. That Wang Tianhao guy asked me to a meal today to discuss a partnership with our company," Chu Yan said with a nod. "If we can close this deal, our cosmetics won't just have to rely on counter sales anymore. If that happens, we'll get a large influx of cash in a short amount of time."
"Alright. Do you want me to go with you?" Zhou Fan didn't say that they weren't short on money or that she didn't have to handle every deal personally. He knew her personality too well.
"No need, my secretary will be with me. Besides, it's just a meal!" Chu Yan shook her head, then suddenly looked at Zhou Fan with a mischievous grin. "Darling, you're not getting jealous, are you?"
"Pfft. A guy like Wang Tianhao is worth my jealousy? If your husband didn't even have that much confidence, I'd be drowning in jealousy every day!" Of course, Zhou Fan couldn't admit it; being a tough talker was his whole game. He then added, as if it were an afterthought, "Oh, right, honey. My money should have arrived by now. I'll transfer two hundred million to you in a bit. You can start setting up the R&D department."
"Hee hee, thank you, darling!"
Chu Yan was much too smart not to see through Zhou Fan's little ploy. She just smiled happily and didn't call him out on it.
Once at the office, Zhou Fan, with nothing better to do, opened his computer and started playing Chinese chess. He ended up losing three games in a row and, in a fit of pique, reported all three opponents before finally turning his gaze to Gu Feifei.
"Feifei, come over here. Let me tell you a joke!"
"Not interested, I'm busy. We're doing all the follow-up work for the Chen Conglomerate contract. Not all of us have as much free time as you!" Gu Feifei shot Zhou Fan a scornful glare.
'Can't be helped,' Zhou Fan thought. 'Chen Yi assigned the work. It's not my fault I've been signing all the big deals these past few days, is it?'
Never mind that he had Chu Yan and Chen Yi watching his back; even without them, just based on the massive deals with Zhang Long and Chen Feng, no one at the company would dare to mess with him.
Just as he was getting bored, his phone buzzed with a new message.
"Feifei, tell Sister Chen for me that I'm heading out to talk business!" Leaving her with that, Zhou Fan stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked out.
"Jerk. Yesterday he was pretending to be my boyfriend, and today he sees me buried in work and doesn't even offer to help. What a heartless guy!" Gu Feifei muttered under her breath, though the pace of her work didn't slow one bit.
Across from the Chen Conglomerate building, in the same coffee shop as last time and at the same table, Chen Yao and Zhou Fan sat facing each other.
"You don't have a secret crush on me, do you? You call me over here, don't say a word, and just stare at me. I'm warning you, don't get any funny ideas. I'm a married man!"
After sitting in silence for a full five minutes, Zhou Fan finally couldn't take it anymore and spoke to the quiet Chen Yao.
Chen Yao nearly choked on her coffee. 'Holy crap,' she thought, 'could you be any more narcissistic?'
She rolled her eyes, speechless.
"I came today mainly to ask you for a favor."
