Genesis & Oblivion: The Celestial Evolution System

Chapter 144 – The Sevenfold Road

The village remained awake long after the light of the First Throne disappeared. The villagers slowly returned to their homes while the researchers gathered around the central map and compared the new readings with everything they had recorded since arriving in the eastern territory. The discovery had given them their first clear connection to the Seven Thrones, but it had also created a more important question: if the formation beneath the village had once been maintained by one of the Thrones, how many other parts of the ancient network were still functioning?

Orion studied the map in silence before speaking. "We leave at first light. The new fluctuation is still moving east, and whatever happened here suggests that the network is becoming active because one or more of its old structures are failing."

Marcus leaned against the wall. "So we’re following a road built by seven ancient throne people to repair whatever they left behind?"

"That’s one interpretation," Caelan replied.

Ryan looked at him. "What’s your interpretation?"

"That we should stop calling every ancient structure a road."

Marcus nodded thoughtfully. "Fair."

Azrael barely heard them. He was standing near the village well, staring into the water. The golden shimmer had returned, but it was different from before. The water no longer merely carried the resonance. It was responding to his presence.

He reached toward it.

Seraphina noticed immediately. "Azrael?"

"I want to understand what changed."

His fingers touched the surface, and the water rippled. For a moment, his perception expanded beyond the physical world. He saw the network beneath the earth as countless lines of energy extending in every direction. Most were faint, almost dormant, but seven major pathways stretched across the land. Six were dim, while one remained bright—the First Throne’s path.

Then something caught his attention.

A section of the eastern pathway was completely black.

Not corrupted.

Not damaged.

Ended.

Azrael immediately withdrew his hand.

Seraphina approached. "What did you see?"

"Seven major paths."

Her expression changed. "Seven?"

He nodded. "Six are nearly dormant. One is active."

Orion came closer. "And the seventh?"

Azrael looked toward the eastern horizon. "It wasn’t visible."

The expedition left the village shortly after sunrise.

Orion divided the group into two teams. Several researchers remained behind to continue monitoring the well and the formation connected to the First Throne, while the main expedition followed the eastern resonance. Azrael and Seraphina remained at the center of the group, accompanied by Marcus, Ryan, Caelan, Lyanna, Sophia, Elena, and several instructors.

The landscape gradually changed as they traveled. The vegetation became thinner, but unlike the barren hill they had encountered previously, the land here showed signs of unusual growth. Vines climbed over stones in perfectly straight lines, flowers appeared in clusters around exposed pieces of ancient material, and small streams followed paths that seemed too precise to be natural.

Seraphina stopped beside one of the streams. "There’s Genesis energy here."

Lyanna crouched beside her. "From the network?"

"Yes, but it’s weak."

Seraphina placed her hand above the water without touching it. A faint golden glow appeared beneath the surface, and the stream immediately changed. The water cleared, tiny plants growing along its edge straightened, and several pale flowers opened.

Lyanna stared at the transformation. "You didn’t create anything."

Seraphina smiled. "No. I only helped the life that was already here."

She withdrew her hand, and the glow faded.

Azrael watched quietly. That was the difference between Genesis and simple creation. Seraphina wasn’t forcing the world to obey her. She was learning how to guide it.

A few moments later, Azrael approached an ancient stone lying beside the stream. Unlike the surrounding rocks, it carried a faint black resonance. He rested his hand against it, allowing his perception to enter the stone.

The resonance revealed itself as decay. Something had been accumulating inside the material for centuries, slowly damaging the network connected to it. Azrael released a thin thread of Oblivion, allowing the black energy to enter the stone. Nothing exploded and nothing shattered. The corruption simply began disappearing.

Azrael guided the Oblivion deeper, following the resonance until he reached the point where the decay had begun. He could destroy the entire stone, but instead he isolated the portion that had reached its natural end. A single pulse passed through Astraeus, and the damaged section vanished while the remaining stone stayed completely intact.

Marcus stared. "That’s new."

Azrael looked at the sword. "It wasn’t destruction."

Seraphina smiled. "You ended what was already dying."

Azrael nodded. His understanding of Oblivion had changed again. It wasn’t merely something he could use against enemies. It could distinguish between what should remain and what had already reached its end.

The ancient road continued beneath their feet.

By midday, the group reached a massive ravine. There was no bridge, and the resonance disappeared at the edge.

Marcus looked across the gap. "Please tell me the ancient road isn’t expecting us to fly."

Ryan looked at Seraphina. "Can Genesis make a bridge?"

She shook her head. "I could create one."

Marcus brightened, but Seraphina continued, "But it wouldn’t be the right solution."

She pointed toward the ravine. "There are living roots beneath it."

Azrael looked down and immediately sensed them. They were ancient, thick, and deeply connected to the network.

Seraphina stepped toward the edge and placed both hands against the ground. Her Genesis energy spread outward, not as an explosion of power but as countless gentle threads searching for existing life.

The roots responded.

They began growing, not wildly or unnaturally, but by following the shape of the ravine. They intertwined with one another until a living bridge slowly formed across the gap.

The researchers watched in fascination.

Seraphina’s breathing became heavier as she maintained control. Azrael noticed. "Don’t force it."

"I know."

She adjusted her energy. Instead of pushing Genesis into the roots, she allowed the roots to determine their own growth.

The bridge stabilized.

Seraphina released her hands. "It chose its shape."

Azrael nodded. "That’s Guided Genesis."

The group crossed carefully. When the last person reached the opposite side, the roots stopped growing. The bridge remained behind them, alive and stable.

Beyond the ravine, the resonance suddenly became much stronger.

Azrael stopped walking, and Seraphina stopped with him. They both felt the change. Something was different ahead.

The ground was filled with countless faint traces of the Sevenfold network, but unlike the previous locations, these paths were not moving eastward.

They were converging.

Seven paths.

One destination.

Orion immediately ordered everyone to slow down. They continued carefully until they reached a vast open plain surrounded by ancient trees.

At the center stood a circular platform that was almost completely buried. Only the upper portion remained visible, covered in weathered stone and seven empty spaces arranged around its edge. Each space had the shape of a throne, but six were completely dark while the seventh carried a faint golden glow.

Seraphina approached cautiously. "This isn’t like the other structures."

Azrael nodded. "No."

He could feel something beneath the platform.

Not a creature.

Not a weapon.

A memory.

The moment he stepped closer, the seven spaces activated. The golden throne illuminated first, and then the remaining six responded with faint traces of light. For a brief moment, seven silhouettes appeared around the platform.

None spoke or moved, but Azrael felt their presence. Each carried a different resonance: Order, Strength, Protection, Instinct, Secrecy, Transformation, and something beyond all six.

The seventh presence was different.

It did not impose a principle.

It simply observed.

Azrael’s eyes narrowed. "The Seven Thrones."

Seraphina looked at the silhouettes. "They’re not alive."

"No."

"They’re records."

The platform suddenly projected a scene above itself. Seven figures stood around a vast world filled with countless civilizations. Genesis energy flowed through one side while Oblivion flowed through the other. Then the two forces began colliding.

The Seven Thrones raised their hands.

The world changed.

The pathways separated. Creation was guided away from destruction, and destruction was guided away from creation. The separation prevented the world from collapsing, but when the process was completed, the seventh figure remained behind.

It turned toward the other six, then toward the separated forces.

Azrael couldn’t hear the words, but he understood their meaning.

The separation was never meant to be permanent.

The vision disappeared, and the platform went dark.

Seraphina remained silent for several seconds. "They weren’t trying to destroy Genesis and Oblivion."

Azrael looked toward the empty thrones. "They were trying to prevent them from destroying each other."

Orion slowly approached. "And the seventh?"

Azrael looked at the final empty space. "The seventh understood that separation could preserve the world..." He paused before continuing, "...but it couldn’t solve the problem forever."

A faint colorless light appeared between the seven empty thrones.

Choice.

The same principle that had followed them since the northern mountains. The same principle that had appeared beneath the forest, inside the village, and within the buried garden.

But this time, it did not point east.

It pointed toward the six dark thrones.

Seraphina looked at Azrael. "Then perhaps we’re not following the road anymore."

Azrael stared at the ancient platform. "We’re reaching its beginning."

The colorless light faded. Far beneath the platform, however, one of the six dormant pathways suddenly brightened.

For the first time since the expedition began, the resonance moved backward.

It was returning toward the First Throne.
