Session 31 – Some things, once broken, can never be fixed
I had gotten a sketchpad and some pencils from the shop keeper, Maple. As Alexis went to take a much needed bath, I stretched out on the bed and started drawing. I felt strangely free for the first time since coming back. There's just something about having a creative outlet that lightens the soul like nothing else.
<Yurlan, we thank you for this bountiful harvest and the meal we are about to-> I grit my teeth and pushed the voice away. That one wasn't even around to hear your prayers anymore, annoying human. And he damned well got what he deserved. I hoped the six exiled forever in the Far Realms were in miserable agony every moment of every day.
I blew out a heavy sigh. No, I didn't really hope that. Not anymore, anyway. I had let most of the anger fade over my long, long imprisonment. Not all, but most. I no longer spent every idle moment imagining all the ways I could tear them apart, piece by agonizing piece. I had better uses for my imagination now.
It felt so good to finally relax and let my guard down a little. There were moments in that demon hell when I was afraid that I'd lose my sanity. Moments where I probably had. And then my little angelic devil had saved me, body and soul.
<Iridatha, please watch over my daughter. I'm so worried about-> I growled and shoved the voice away. She at least managed to pick one that was still alive to hear her pleas. And one who didn't completely suck, at that. Well.. didn't completely suck as gods go.
I focused back on my sketch, the pencil flowing across the paper as a figure took shape. A pretty blonde with horns and soft, pink lips smiled up at me from the paper. Well, I didn't have any colored pencils, so she was just blonde with pink lips in my memory and imagination. And in my dreams. And fantasies.
I started adding shading and little details. My hand suddenly scratched across the page, the pencil leaving a long, jagged line. I looked up, my eyes scanning the room and my ears perked up. Alexis wasn't back yet, what the fuck was that strange sound?
After a few moments, I shrugged and went back to my drawing. I erased the accidental line and focused on my lovely blonde again. I drew her in a short skirt. I gave it some thought, tapping the pencil against my chin. Then I changed her pose and had her bending over, the short skirt riding up higher and higher on those pale pink thighs as she smiled at me over her shoulder.
I adjusted myself and shifted on the bed to get more comfortable. I looked at the door again and frowned. Alexis really was taking her time. I hope she didn't take that comment seriously. Sure, she needed a bath, but I had been joking. She actually smelled really fucking amazing pretty much all of the time. In fact, she was the nicest smelling mortal that I had ever met.
<Feidros, please let me meet a beautiful girl with really, really big brea-> Fuck off! Feidros was a bitch. How she ever became the goddess of Love Above is the greatest fucking mystery in the Cosmos. She very much deserved to be erased from reality. That one was a favor to us all.
I shoved aside thoughts of gods and whiny mortals and started drawing my gorgeous blonde from a new angle. She was still bending over, but in my direction now and gravity was pulling the front of her blouse down revealing her big swaying brea-
My pencil punched through the paper. "Fuck!" But the sketch was already forgotten, tossed aside as I rolled off the bed and hit the ground running. I scooped up my shield and my love's sword without slowing down. I realized what I had felt earlier, because this time there was absolutely no mistaking the Divine impact of two gods landing thirty feet away.
Please please please be okay, love. I can't lose you, I just fucking can't! I flicked out my shield and let it take the brunt of the impact as I hurled my entire body at the door to our room, not even bothering with the handle. I sprinted down the short corridor past the other rooms and straight to the bath room.
I crashed through the door and found my love curled up into an impossibly tight ball on the floor. Her raspy sobbing crushed my soul and boiled my blood hotter than the grandest dragon's fire. Standing above her and looking like kids caught with their hands in the sweets box, Luna, the devil goddess of Truth Above, and Iridatha, the angel goddess of Life Above, both startled and stared at me.
Luna sucked in a breath and all the color drained from her face. "Lapazulalei. Wha.. whe.. how? Why are you here?" Her eyes moved to the sword in my hand and she swallowed nervously. "W-we were just talking about you! The.. uh, the whole gang. Or, what's left of it, I guess." She shifted uneasily.
I took a possessive step closer to my love's sobbing form and raised my sword, pointing it at them. Luna took an unconscious step back. The massive, armored goddess of Life Above remained as impassive as ever except to subtly shift so that she was further interposed in between me and her wife.
I swallowed down the lump in my throat and steeled my voice. "What did you do to her?"
Luna's eyes went wide. She struggled through confusion and into terror as she looked from me down to Alexis and then back to me. Her eyes went even wider and she took another half-step back. "Y-y-you and h-her?" She turned to Iridatha and noted her lack of surprise. "Bebe? You knew?"
Iridatha finally spoke, her deep voice booming around the small space of the bath room. "I had my suspicions, after what my champion told me."
"Why didn't you say anything?" Luna had a very complicated expression; guilt mixed with regret mixed with sadness.
Iridatha crossed her muscular arms over her chest. "Because Lothe would have killed her for a laugh."
I turned to Iridatha. "Is.." I swallowed the bile rising up in the back of my throat from the idea of asking these monsters for anything. "Is she broken?"
The angel looked down at Alexis and her eyes flashed with divine light. "She can recover. She is damaged, but not shattered."
I stepped closer still and carefully knelt down, always keeping my sword between them and me. I reached down with my shield hand and gently tried to pull Alexis into my arms, but she flinched away from my touch. My blood ran cold and all I could see was red. It took every heartbeat combined of my accumulated ten thousand years to not throw myself at them and gut one before the other Annihilated me from the face of the Cosmos.
"What. Did. You. Do." I ground the words out between clenched teeth. I was gripping the sword so tightly that I knew my hand would be cramped for days. I didn't care. No amount of physical pain could compare to what I felt in my heart.
Luna physically flinched away from me. "We didn't do anything! Lothe-"
"Raped her." I viciously cut her off. My heart was pounding in my ears and I could feel hot tears on my cheeks. "In that very special way that demons do. And you just stood there and watched." Even Iridatha sagged while shifting her weight nervously and wouldn't meet my eyes at that.
Luna wrung her hands and stared at her feet. "You know how he gets; what he's like.. How strong he is."
I held out my arms, showing the scars criss-crossed all over my body. "Yes. I do know. Better than most."
Luna and Iridatha looked at each other and then back to me. "We didn't know." Luna stared at her feet and couldn't look at me.
"You didn't want to know!" I spit back at her. I raised the sword and pointed it at them again. "Now get the fuck out of my sight, while you still can."
Iridatha bristled and stood taller, her warhammer actually appearing at her side. "Who do you think you are, to command goddesses?" She swiped her hand through the air. "Your real body is still in the Hells. You can't hurt us with that human homunculus." She sounded less sure of herself with every word.
I took a threatening step toward them. Luna took a full step back and Iridatha flinched, but held firm. "I'm the bitch who killed fourteen of you fucks!"
The devil and the angel looked at each other for a long moment before Luna stepped into Iridatha's arms and they vanished in a dramatic flurry of white feathers.
I closed my shield and shoved the sword down the back of my dress. I knelt down and scooped Alexis up in my arms. She resisted a little at first but once I had her close enough to smell me, she wrapped her arms around me so tight that I struggled to breathe. I managed to get her back into our room and onto the bed, but she wouldn't let go. She was still sobbing and shaking, so I pulled the blankets over both of us and just held my love until we both fell asleep.
