Session 29 – Introspection AKA: VITAL PLOT BEATS
I opened the door to our room and yawned. "Gods Below, I am exhausted." Paz glanced very pointedly at me. I tilted my head and gave her a shit-eating grin. "So is it just like a whisper or a vibe? What happens if I do this?" I grabbed her shoulders and whispered into her ear. "Gods gods gods gods gods gods gods gods go-"
She spun around, whipping me across the face with her curly ginger locks. "I'm going to go take a bath." I opened my mouth. "And you're not invited!" Strangled whimpering noises escaped my lips which she primly ignored. Paz slipped the Magic Bag of Stuff off my shoulder while I stood there looking like I'd been told I couldn't come on the class field trip. Paz set the bag on the bed and pulled out a towel. She stopped at the door and blew me a kiss over her shoulder and then she was gone.
I flopped down on the bed with a heavy sigh. What a fucking week this had been. And then it felt even weirder when I realized this was the first moment Paz had been out of my sight since I returned to her prison. What a mind fuck that was. Three to thirty years plus a week give or take without her ever being much beyond arms reach. Arm's reach? One of those.
I had fallen asleep on my couch and woken up in this world that I created. I met my soulmate. Wait.. I did? Where did that thought come from? The small shadow. Could it have been Paz? I was weirdly drawn to her in the beginning. Of course, now it wasn't so weird. We were madly, toe-curlingly, gut-clenchingly in love. At least I was. I could only hope she was too.
I was attacked by a demon shadow. That sucked. I met.. oh yeah. I kinda forgot about them. In my defense, it's been like three to thirty years since I saw them. From my perspective. I hoped they were doing okay. I should probably find a way to send them a message. Or maybe just look for them in Arcadia? Pretty sure they were heading there too.
I was taken by slavers. Killed a man and gained a cool class. The Spell-Song Weaver. It sounded like something I'd write, even though I couldn't remember creating it. Spent a confusing amount of time in a demon prison. Had my first kiss and got my first girlfriend. Escaped a slaver camp. Had my first real argument with Paz.
Paz. What the fuck am I anyway? I altered reality ten thousand years in the past through a memory. I saved Paz before she was Paz. Can the gods even do that? I know the quantum mechanics of it well enough. How did Paz survive the first time, you ask? Well, I was there the second time to save her the first time so she didn't need saving the first time because she was always saved the second time. Okay.. that made my head hurt. But that's how it works, trust me.
I thought about my character sheet. Song of Starlight stuck out to me. I still didn't know what it did and I had the gut feeling that it was very important. Like cosmically important. Hmm. Gods are all about stars and the infinite expanse of the universe, especially in my setting. I wondered if it related to them somehow. Could Astral Teleportation take me to the Celestial Staircase? The rules said that someone with at least one Divine Precept had to invite you before you could magiphysically enter there. Shut up, it's a word. All words are made up and I just made that one up.
Xena died. Paz died. But she got better. More Alexis bullshit? Related to Song of Starlight somehow? Fuck, so many questions; so few answers. The Infinite Library at Arcadia might have some answers. It was worth a look, anyway. And I had to show Paz the upside down waterfall. I was especially proud of that one, if not the uninspired name.
So we'd get Xena back and then escort Olivia's friend to Arcadia. That'd be one goal down. I should probably decide on some others. That's what people did right? They accomplished goals instead of laying in bed talking to themselves.
Goals:
1. Become adventurers. -check
2. Get supplies. -check
3. Reach Arcadia. -wip
4. Get in Paz's pants No! Head out of the gutter. I meant show our love for each other. Physically. I know, I'm a useless lesbian. -wip
5. Have kids with Paz and retire fat and happy. -wip
I felt like I was forgetting something important? Eh, I'm sure it would come to me.
I sat up on the bed as the door opened and Paz came back into the room. She was wearing just a towel and her hair was still wet. And my brain shut down. I saw her mouth moving but none of the words registered. She stepped closer and used a finger to gently close my mouth.
"Love, stop drooling and go take a bath. You REALLY need it."
I blinked and focused on her. "Hey! I'll have you know that I always smell like roses."
She snorted. "Well then, your nose needs to be healed, because that's not what I smell."
I stood and grabbed a towel out of the Magic Bag of Stuff. "Alright. I'll be back shortly. Don't lay on the bed and imagine a clips show of everything that's happened. That's my shtick." She tilted her head to the side and gave me the look that was becoming entirely too familiar. The one that said 'I'm in love with a weird idiot.' I walked by her and squealed when she gave my butt a slap.
I found my way down to the bath room. It was surprisingly nice. There were candles and bath soaps. I assumed Anabelle decorated the place. Interesting. There was an evoke elements rune at the head of the tub. It touched it and hot water started filling the tub. Okay, that's a neat trick. When I own a house one day, I'm definitely getting one of those.
I added some scented soaps and slipped out of my clothes and into the hot water. The tension slowly started melting out of my tired and exhausted muscles. I laid back and closed my eyes. Finally, a chance to relax and unwind. I fell asleep. And then had a crazy dream.
