Chapter 42
Tears welled up in Alia's eyes again. Because of Sam's confession. Because of how sincere he sounded. And because of how much pain they were both in.
She didn't know what to say. She didn't even know what to feel anymore. Should she be happy or sad?
In fact, part of the reason she was crying earlier was not just because of rejection but also because she knew she was the one who forced him into that position. She had manipulated him and made it as though the night of passion between them never happened.
She knew it was cruel, yet she felt it was the best way to protect their relationship as mother and son. However, the more she tried to suppress her emotions and push Sam away, the more they consumed her.
Now, looking at their current situation, Alia realized that running away or hiding was never the solution. She had to confront her feelings, as did Sam.
"I'm sorry, Sam." Alia choked out the words between sobs.
Sam felt his heartbreak at her words. But he didn't blame her for her reaction. "You don't have to apologize, Mom. I know how hard it is to accept this... and how wrong it is. Believe me. I do too. That's why I'm going to stop confusing you, confusing us, and focus on making our relationship normal."
"No. Wait." Alia sat up quickly and grabbed Sam's arm before he could stand up and leave again. Her blanket slipped off her body, exposing her breasts. However, neither cared about that right now. "You're misunderstanding. I didn't mean that."
"Then what did you mean?"
"I... I..." Alia hesitated for a moment, unsure how to explain herself. Then, taking a deep breath, she blurted, "I love you too, Sam. Not just as a son, but as a man. I've realized that after the other night, when you made love to me so passionately, like no one else had ever done. It awakened something inside me. Something that can't be denied anymore."
Her words echoed loudly in the room. It was so clear, yet it didn't feel real. As if Sam were dreaming again.
'What did she just say? Does she mean she's in love with me? That she feels the same as I do?' Sam stared at her, trying to process the information. 'And what does she mean by the other night? When did I...? Wait... no way!'
"Mom, what are you talking about? We didn't do anything other than masturbating together and tonight's... massage. So how can you say I 'made love' to you? Did we...?"
As soon as Sam asked, Alia looked away from him and blushed deeply. Her silence confirmed his suspicion, making his eyes widen.
Sam's heart hammered against his ribs, the missing puzzle pieces suddenly slamming into place. "It wasn't a dream, was it?" he muttered in disbelief.
Alia shook her head and finally replied, "No. It was real. Everything was real. And before you woke up the next day, I... I cleaned up and acted like normal. I even thought it would be better to let you believe it was a dream."
Hearing the truth, Sam felt his head spin and heart pound wildly. He didn't know how to react. On the one hand, he was happy that he had actually been with Alia. On the other, he felt deceived and hurt by her decision to hide it.
"Mom... I can't believe this." Sam ran a hand through his hair and sighed heavily. "Why didn't you say anything? Why did you pretend nothing happened? Why?"
"Because... I didn't want to acknowledge what we did was wrong but felt so right." Alia looked back at Sam with teary eyes. "If we faced the reality, we would have to choose between our feelings and our moral boundaries. Neither choice was good for our relationship as a family. I wanted to protect it more than anything else."
Sam understood where Alia was coming from. He really did. As he had said, he had also tried to run away from the truth to protect them both.
However, things were different now. They couldn't avoid it any longer.
After all, what was the point of having a normal family relationship if they were miserable and unhappy? How could they look at each other every day and pretend there was nothing between them when, in fact, there was a burning attraction?
He was sure he couldn't. The proof was that he couldn't stop himself from touching Alia during the massage, nor could she.
So it boiled down to one question: what should they do now?
They had already crossed the line and even confessed their love to each other. Wasn't it time for them to accept it?
But then, how would their life change if they became lovers? He had already started dating Diana. And Chloe? How would she react?
'Shit. This is getting more complicated by the second.'
Sam rubbed his face, trying to think of the best solution for everyone involved.
"Sam? What are we going to do?" Alia asked softly, her hand still holding his arm. She sounded scared yet hopeful.
Before answering, Sam looked at her again. At her beautiful, tear-streaked face, at her full, round breasts, at her slender waist, and finally at her thighs, which were still glistening with wetness.
She looked like a goddess in his eyes, so perfect and tempting.
He knew it was a dangerous path to follow, yet he couldn't help but feel drawn to her.
"Mom, I want you," Sam said honestly. "But I don't want to hurt anyone either, including Chloe and Diana. I don't know what to do. I feel torn between you and them."
Alia bit her lip and moved closer to Sam. "Then... maybe we can try to find a middle ground. Something that doesn't hurt anyone or ruin anything."
"A middle ground?" Sam asked in confusion.
