My Reconstruction Talent is too OP!!!

Chapter 209: Age of Forgotten III

The Cosmic System was the foundation of power for countless beings in the current age. It allowed people to awaken their talents, acquire skills, increase their attributes, and grow stronger by completing trials and defeating monsters.

For most people, it was an extraordinary blessing. Without it, reaching the higher ranks would be far more difficult, and many of the opportunities available to mortals would never have existed.

But according to the woman, the system was connected to a prison created during an ancient war.

If that were true, then the power it granted might have another purpose beyond helping its users grow stronger.

Kaiser looked toward the empty horizon as he considered the implications.

"Then the Cosmic System wasn’t created simply to help mortals become stronger?"

[Thou art beginning to understand.]

[The systems bestowed upon mortals were born from the remnants of that ancient conflict. They granted their bearers power, accelerated their growth, and allowed even those born with ordinary potential to reach heights that would otherwise remain beyond their grasp.]

[Yet such gifts were never without consequence. Beneath the power they bestowed lay restrictions that most mortals would never question, for they knew nothing of the paths that existed before the system came into being.]

[As generations passed, the system became the foundation upon which mortals built their strength. They grew accustomed to relying upon it, until few remembered that there were other ways to pursue power.]

[And so, what was once regarded as a blessing became a chain whose existence few could even perceive.]

Kaiser did not immediately respond.

He had always considered the Cosmic System an opportunity rather than a burden. It provided a clear path to strength, and although its rules sometimes limited what he could do, the benefits far outweighed the disadvantages.

However, the woman was suggesting something far more troubling.

If the system contained restrictions designed to serve a greater purpose, then its users might never possess complete control over their own power. Their growth could depend on rules established by beings whose intentions they did not understand.

Worse, if someone possessed the authority to manipulate those rules, then all the power accumulated by a mortal might be taken away in an instant.

Kaiser had no intention of accepting such a possibility without learning the truth.

"Then what happened to the Gods who sacrificed their power to seal the Outer Beings? Did they all perish?"

For the first time, the woman took a noticeably longer pause before answering.

[Some perished during the war. Others sacrificed their divinity, their physical forms, and even the very foundations of their existence to complete the seals.]

[There were also those who survived, though their strength had been reduced to a fraction of what it once was. Yet as the ages passed, even their remaining traces began to disappear. Their bodies vanished, their names were forgotten, and their legacies were lost to the endless passage of time.]

[As for those who remain, I know not what fate hath befallen them. The sanctuary was cut off from the outside world, and whatever knowledge once connected us to the other realms hath long since faded.]

Kaiser looked around once more.

"So the Gods who survived the war might still exist somewhere?"

[I cannot say. Some may have found a way to preserve themselves, while others may have perished long ago. I have remained here for an age beyond counting, and much of what I once knew has faded alongside this realm.]

There was no certainty in her answer, only the weary acknowledgment of someone who had watched everything she knew disappear.

[Their legacy was scattered across existence. Their civilizations were erased, their achievements forgotten, and the truth of the ancient war buried beneath countless layers of history.]

[The world moved forward, yet no one remembered those who had paid the price for its continued existence.]

[Thus ended the Age of Gods. And thus began the Age of the Forgotten.]

For a while, Kaiser said nothing.

He had initially assumed that the Fortune Compass had transported him to some hidden treasure ground or an ancient inheritance left behind by a powerful being.

Instead, he had stumbled into the remains of an ancient sanctuary whose existence had been erased from the memories of the world.

The implications were far greater than he had expected.

If the Cosmic System was connected to the seals that imprisoned the Outer Beings, then understanding its origins might reveal weaknesses that no one in the current age knew existed.

And if the Gods had left behind knowledge capable of bypassing the system’s restrictions, then the legacy of this place could be more valuable than any ordinary inheritance.

However, one question continued to bother him.

"If the Gods were powerful enough to seal the Outer Beings, why did they allow their legacy to disappear? Why didn’t they leave behind a way for future generations to learn the truth?"

The woman let out a faint laugh. There was no amusement in it, only a trace of bitterness.

[Thou speakest as though those who have perished may choose what remains after their passing.]

[The power required to seal the Outer Beings consumed nearly everything the Gods possessed. Their divine laws shattered, their realms collapsed, and the very foundations of the Divine Sanctuary were damaged beyond repair.]

[They had neither the strength nor the time to preserve everything they had created. Many of their legacies were destroyed during the war, while others were lost when the realms containing them collapsed. Even those who attempted to leave something behind could not be certain that their creations would survive the passage of time.]

[What remaineth here is but a fragment of their former glory, sustained by the final remnants of their will.]

Her voice gradually softened.

[The sanctuary that once stood at the peak of existence has become a forgotten ruin. The Gods who once called it home have vanished, and the knowledge they spent countless ages gathering has been reduced to scattered remnants.]

[And I... am the will that remaineth.]

Kaiser froze for a moment.

’The Remnant Will of the Divine Sanctuary...’

He finally understood why the woman spoke as though she had witnessed the events herself. She was not simply an ancient consciousness that had discovered the ruins or inherited the memories of the Gods.

She was a remnant of the sanctuary itself, a surviving will that had endured long after everything else had fallen.

That also explained why she seemed so familiar with the history of this place, yet knew so little about what had happened beyond its boundaries in the ages that followed.

Kaiser took a moment to organize his thoughts before asking his next question.

"Then, if I accept your legacy, what exactly will I inherit? The power of the Forgotten Gods, or whatever power you have left?"

[Both, though not in the manner thou imaginest.]

[The Gods who once dwelt here left behind more than mere treasures. They recorded their understanding of the laws governing existence, developed cultivation methods that allowed them to transcend their natural limits, and created techniques that could guide others toward powers far beyond ordinary comprehension.]

[Some of these teachings were preserved within the sanctuary. Others were stored in divine inheritances, sealed chambers, and remnants that even I can no longer reach. Much hath been lost, and what remains is but a fraction of what the Gods once possessed.]

[My own power is insufficient to restore the sanctuary to its former glory, nor can I return what hath already been destroyed. However, I may gather the remnants that remain and pass them to a suitable successor.]

[Through the Remnant Legacy, the knowledge and power preserved within this realm may be given a new beginning. What was once lost need not remain forgotten forever.]

Kaiser raised an eyebrow.

"So you want me to inherit everything that remains here and carry on the legacy of the Forgotten Gods?"

[In essence, yes. Yet thou must understand that this is no ordinary inheritance.]

[The legacy was not created merely to grant strength to its successor. It was meant to preserve the knowledge of the Gods, to allow their paths of cultivation to continue, and to ensure that the sacrifices they made would not be rendered meaningless.]

[Shouldst thou accept it, thou shalt receive an opportunity that few beings could ever hope to obtain. Yet the legacy itself cannot guarantee what thou shalt become. The knowledge must be understood, the power must be mastered, and the path must be walked by thine own efforts.]

Kaiser considered her explanation.

He was certainly interested in the power and knowledge left behind by the Gods. More importantly, if this legacy could help him overcome the Cosmic System’s restrictions, it might give him the freedom he needed to pursue his own path.

However, he still had no reason to trust the woman completely.

She had openly admitted that she wanted revenge, and she had already made it clear that accepting the legacy would require him to kill those responsible for the destruction of the Divine Sanctuary.

He needed to understand why she had chosen him before agreeing to anything.

"And you think I’m suitable for this?"

[Thy Fortune is extraordinary. It hath allowed thee to reach a place that should have remained beyond the reach of mortals, breaking through the barriers that conceal this realm from the outside world.]

[Yet Fortune alone would not have been enough. Thy soul hath not been entirely bound by the system that governeth thy growth. Though thou hast benefited from its power, a part of thee remaineth capable of seeking a path beyond its restrictions.]

[These qualities have brought thee before me. Whether they make thee worthy of the Remnant Legacy, however, is another matter entirely.]

Kaiser frowned slightly.

"So, reaching this place wasn’t enough to qualify me?"

[Nay. Being chosen by Fortune doth not mean thou art worthy of what Fortune hath revealed unto thee.]

[The legacy I offer is the last hope of a realm that hath already lost nearly everything. I shall not entrust it to one who seeks only power without understanding its price.]
