Chapter 516 - 506: Choosing a Shop
Just then, an old man asked, "Where do we, the chosen ones, need to go to start work?"
They were well aware. The only reason they’d made it to this place was that SoySauceDrunkard had chosen one of their family members.
Working for SoySauceDrunkard not only included room and board and generous pay, but their families would also receive better treatment. On top of that, they were even gifted a free Elf Tree House.
Moira Lynch now listed a batch of mature Elf Tree Houses for sale every so often.
Aside from a small number that grew into Elf Trees and another small, extravagantly mutated portion that ordinary people couldn’t possibly afford, Moira Lynch listed all the remaining Elf Tree Houses.
But even so, not just anyone could afford an Elf Tree House.
Not even all players could afford an Elf Tree House, to say nothing of ordinary people.
People had even started renting out Elf Tree Houses on Caelus.
Some wealthy individuals were continuously buying up Elf Tree Houses. Aside from the ones they lived in, they converted the rest into something resembling the cheap rental units of the past, leasing them to those who couldn’t afford to buy.
While this practice smacked of disaster capitalism, it also undeniably prevented more people from becoming displaced, allowing them to survive and avoid freezing to death.
Thus, as long as these individuals didn’t take things too far, the government turned a blind eye to their activities.
These people were now eager to start working for SoySauceDrunkard, which was why they asked with such impatience.
Only by actually starting to work could they finally feel at ease. Otherwise, they felt as if everything before them was an unreal illusion.
The person leading the group didn’t answer directly, as they didn’t know either.
Just as he was hesitating about how to explain, two golden, eye-like objects flew over from the sky.
Anyone who had seen that world-shocking livestream would surely recognize these two golden eyes.
The Golden Celestial Eyes flew before the crowd, and a somewhat gruff voice emanated from them.
The speaker was, of course, Moira Lynch, though she was using a voice changer at the moment.
"The chosen ones, follow me. I’ll take you to your workplace. You’ll only have one day off each month. You can apply to come back and visit your families, or you can choose not to. The choice is yours."
After she finished speaking, Moira Lynch performed a few actions, and a Teleportation Gate materialized before the crowd.
Through the Teleportation Gate, one could even smell the faint scent of the sea.
Soon, under the eager gazes of their families, the chosen individuals walked through the Teleportation Gate one by one.
In that moment, they were proud. They had provided a comfortable life for their families, ensuring they would no longer go hungry or suffer from the cold.
After Moira Lynch sent the group to the Elf Tree Houses on Cloudsea Planet, she left the rest to Patience.
The Elf Tree Houses on Cloudsea Planet were all extra-large. Even the smallest could house several hundred people at once.
So these people didn’t need to worry about accommodations at all.
Moreover, the Elf Tree Houses were fully furnished, and all the crafting tools they would need were prepared.
Some had been procured on Caelus, while others had been purchased from the Stellar Shop and the System Shop.
These were ordinary people who had surely endured many hardships on Caelus. To help them get into working condition quickly, Moira Lynch had prepared health-restoring Medicine, as well as Hibernation Pods and Healing Pods.
Seeing all this, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but marvel, ’I really am a good boss.’
Patience’s job was simply to keep an eye on them and make sure no harm came to them.
After two days of recuperation, the workers quickly settled into their work.
Moira Lynch learned of their positive work ethic from Patience and was very satisfied.
’Looks like it won’t be long before they can start producing finished products.’
’In that case, I’d better hurry up and find a suitable shop.’
Setting up a shop, from choosing a location to finishing the renovations, takes a considerable amount of time. Similarly, it takes time for these artisans to craft exquisite jewelry. After all, as the saying goes, fine work takes time.
"Patience, keep an eye out for any news about shops for rent or sale."
"Of course. I’ll start searching now. Do you have any specific requirements?"
Hearing this, Moira Lynch thought for a moment before replying, "The location has to be good, somewhere with a lot of foot traffic. I’m planning to go high-end, so the neighboring shops need to be upscale as well. Also, the space needs to be large with good lighting, and the decor should be understated luxury."
Moira Lynch rattled off several requirements. Price, on the other hand, wasn’t a major concern. After all, she wasn’t short on cash.
’Even the most expensive shop couldn’t be more expensive than a planet, could it?’
If she converted all her Game Coins to Gold Coins, she would have enough to buy two small resource planets.
’Veridian Prime doesn’t count. That one was a steal.’
After processing Moira Lynch’s requirements, Patience quickly found three locations that fit the bill.
All three were on The Federation’s capital planet, though in different districts.
The first shop’s previous owner sold custom-made clothing. Business wasn’t good, however, and they couldn’t afford the rent, so they closed down and were now looking to sublet the space.
’A bit inauspicious.’
Moira Lynch mentally crossed this shop off her list and moved on to the other two.
The second shop’s owner had gone bankrupt after a robbery and had no choice but to sell the property.
Moira Lynch took a closer look and saw that the shop hadn’t been robbed just once, but multiple times in a row.
’How unlucky do you have to be to get robbed that many times?’
Moira Lynch ranked this one even lower than the first.
’This place definitely has bad feng shui.’
Then she looked at the final option.
This shop had the best location of the three. It was also the largest, and the decor and other features all matched Moira Lynch’s tastes. On top of that, it didn’t have any other issues.
The original owner’s only requirement was payment in full, upfront.
Apparently, the original owner’s son was getting married, and his fiancée’s family was demanding they buy a house in the capital planet’s city center.
So, to ensure his son could get married, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say the owner was selling everything he owned, down to the pots and pans.
This shop was also the most expensive of the three, but considering the circumstances of the other two, Moira Lynch didn’t hesitate for long before decisively choosing it.
"Patience, contact the owner of the third shop. Ask when we can handle the transfer and sign the contract."
