Marvel: Reincarnated as Superman

Chapter 2: Dinner

In the evening.

The sky outside had already gone dark, and the Danvers family was gathered around the dining table preparing to eat dinner.

Mary had already finished cooking.

"I’ll go bring out the dishes."

The moment Carol noticed Daniel staring at her nonstop, guilt immediately crept into her heart. She hurriedly tossed out an excuse and fled toward the kitchen.

Right now Daniel was obviously still angry.

Since she had done something wrong, avoiding him for a while felt like the safest option. Even if they were all stuck in the same house, hiding for a few extra minutes still counted.

Soon, Carol and Mary finished bringing all the food to the table.

After everyone sat down, Mary noticed that Daniel hadn’t touched his utensils at all.

Concern immediately appeared on her face.

"What’s wrong, Daniel?" she asked gently. "Why aren’t you eating? I specially made your favorite roasted lamb chops today. Are you not feeling well?"

"I’m not really hungry," Daniel replied gloomily.

His precious savings had just lost nearly a third of their value. His heart was bleeding.

How was he supposed to have an appetite?

"Oh, sweetheart, what happened?"

The moment Mary heard that Daniel didn’t want to eat, she became worried.

Normally Daniel ate a lot. Seeing him suddenly lose his appetite made her immediately think he was sick.

"Baby, are you feeling unwell? Come here, let me check your forehead. Do you have a fever?"

"No, I’m healthy," Daniel answered weakly. "I just feel terrible inside, so I can’t eat."

"Then what happened?"

Mary found Daniel’s behavior unusually strange today.

This almost never happened.

Normally he was obedient, sensible, and rarely caused trouble. His health was also excellent.

Unless...

A possibility suddenly flashed through Mary’s mind.

She glanced toward John.

John was sitting there quietly trying not to laugh.

Instantly, Mary understood.

’Definitely Carol.’

"Carol," Mary said slowly, "what did you do to your brother?"

"Nothing much..." Carol answered guiltily. "I just used a little of his stuff."

"What exactly did you use?"

"I used... I used..."

Carol couldn’t bring herself to say it.

"She used my savings!" Daniel exploded before Carol could continue.

"She spent three dollars! I worked so hard saving that money, and she used almost a third of it!"

The more Daniel talked, the angrier he became.

This little demon of a sister was unbelievable.

What kind of older sister spent her younger brother’s money?

Wasn’t it supposed to be older sisters giving money to their little brothers?

That money was his future startup capital!

"Carol, you spent Daniel’s money?" Mary asked seriously.

"And she didn’t even ask me first," Daniel added from the side.

"Mom, you know how it is," Carol hurriedly defended herself.

"Last time Pamela treated me to food, so obviously I had to treat her back. But I didn’t have any money recently, so I just borrowed a little from Daniel."

She awkwardly used her fingers to gesture a tiny amount.

"Just a little bit! Daniel still has lots left! Besides, I’ll definitely pay him back."

"I don’t believe you!"

Daniel immediately shouted back.

"Last time you borrowed money from me, you never paid me back either!"

He genuinely didn’t trust her.

Carol spent money recklessly all the time. How could she possibly save enough to repay him?

And this time was even worse.

At this point, it practically counted as theft.

Daniel silently made up his mind, he had to teach this little troublemaker a lesson.

Otherwise, his savings would eventually all disappear into Carol’s pockets.

He still needed that money as future startup capital.

Besides, he wasn’t being stingy, he was planning for the future.

The more money he saved now, the more money he would have later.

And once he became rich in the future, wouldn’t Carol naturally benefit too?

Carol was still young and didn’t understand these things yet.

She would understand when she grew up.

Daniel nodded internally, feeling his logic was flawless.

"Carol, apologize to Daniel," Mary said firmly.

In her eyes, this wasn’t a small issue.

The amount of money might not have been large, but Carol’s behavior was serious.

"This is stealing," Mary repeated sternly.

"I won’t!"

Carol was startled by her mother’s unusually harsh tone, but after the initial shock, her temper flared up too.

"I already said I’ll pay him back!" she yelled loudly.

"But you took his money without permission!" Mary continued.

"That behavior is wrong."

"I... I..."

Carol knew she had messed up.

But she was prideful and stubborn. She didn’t want to apologize to her younger brother.

At the same time, this was also the first time Mary had scolded her this seriously.

Carol began panicking.

Tears slowly started forming in her eyes.

Seeing the atmosphere rapidly spiraling out of control, Daniel realized things were going too far.

If this kept escalating, even if Carol apologized in the end, she would probably hate him afterward.

Daniel immediately decided it was best to stop while he was ahead.

"Carol," Daniel said, "you’ll pay me back, right?"

"Of course I will!"

Carol answered angrily.

"This time I really will. I’ll go deliver newspapers this weekend and earn money to pay you back!"

Even though she understood she was at fault, she was still just a child.

In her mind, the reason their mother was scolding her so harshly was because Daniel tattled on her.

So naturally, her tone wasn’t very pleasant.

"You..."

Mary was just about to continue lecturing her when Daniel interrupted.

"Alright then. Just make sure you pay me back."

Then he picked up his fork.

"Let’s eat."

Since Daniel himself had already let the matter go, Mary couldn’t really continue saying much more.

"Wow, Mom, your roasted lamb chops are getting better and better!"

Seeing the awkward atmosphere at the table, Daniel deliberately tried to lighten the mood.

"Really?" Mary smiled warmly. "Then eat more."

"Okay! I’ll finish all the remaining lamb chops myself!" Daniel declared loudly.

"I want some too!"

Carol, who had been eating gloomily in silence, instantly raised her head when she heard that.

She loved Mary’s roasted lamb chops too.

There was no way she was letting Daniel monopolize them.

"Haha, alright, alright. I’ll get more for both of you."

Seeing that the two children seemed fine again, Mary’s mood improved considerably as well.

Just then, someone deliberately coughed twice.

"Ahem..."

Apparently upset about being ignored.

"You’ll get some too," Mary replied helplessly, rolling her eyes at John before standing up and heading back toward the kitchen.

After dinner, the family sat together in the living room chatting on the sofa.

"Oh right..."

John suddenly seemed to remember something.

"I need to go to Boston tomorrow. Do you guys want to come with me?"

He looked toward Daniel.

"Daniel hasn’t really left town before, right? How about I take you both out tomorrow?"

"Really?!"

Carol answered instantly.

"Okay," Daniel replied as well.

Truthfully, he also wanted to see what cities in this era looked like.

"Then it’s settled!"

John laughed loudly.

"Tomorrow I’ll take you to see my idol, Steve Rogers!"

"That’s clearly because you want to go see him yourself," Mary mercilessly exposed him from the side.

She knew her husband far too well.

"This is a sacred tradition of the Danvers family!" John declared proudly.

"A tradition passed down to me!"

’Steve Rogers... Captain America?’

Daniel thought silently to himself.

He had heard John mention the name many times before.

’I didn’t expect Dad to be such a comic fan.’

"Dad, are we going to the amusement park too?" Carol asked excitedly.

Ever since her last visit, she had been obsessed with the idea of going again.

Daniel hadn’t gone with them last time.

"We are, we are," John answered cheerfully.

"Yesss!"

Carol nearly jumped off the sofa in excitement.

The family chatted a little longer afterward, mostly Carol chattering nonstop about random things, before eventually returning to their rooms.

Right before entering her room, Carol suddenly turned toward Daniel.

Her face was slightly red.

"...Sorry."

After muttering the apology awkwardly, she immediately ran back into her room before Daniel could respond.

Lying in bed later that night, Daniel found himself unable to sleep.

Tomorrow would be his first time visiting a real city in this era.

He had no idea what it would be like.

But he was excited.

After all, going to the outside world... that would be the true starting point of his future ambitions.

After thinking for a while longer, sleepiness finally began creeping in.

Daniel yawned softly.

"Goodnight," he called toward Carol’s room next door.

That was a rule Carol had personally established.

Skipping it was absolutely forbidden.

A moment later, Carol’s voice came from the other side of the wall.

"Goodnight."
