Marvel: Reincarnated as Superman

Chapter 170: Temporary Guides

“Borrow money?”

Thor turned around. The movement made Martin extremely nervous.

“Don’t move. I’ve got a piece here.” he warned.

Thor looked down at the gun pressed right against his waist.

“Is this a weapon of you Earthlings?” he asked.

“Cut the crap. You trying to get yourself killed or something?”

Martin was beginning to feel nervous. There was something about Thor’s reaction that didn’t feel right, something deeply unsettling. He glanced left and right, his tension easing only slightly after confirming they were completely alone.

“Stop wasting time and hand over the money.”

Paul, who was standing beside him, had already lost his patience. He raised his hand and swung it toward the side of Thor’s head, intending to punch him.

Thor effortlessly caught Paul’s wrist. It finally clicked for him, these two were trying to rob him.

“So, you’re mugging me?” Thor asked.

Paul’s face twisted with anger when Thor caught his wrist. He immediately lashed out with a kick.

Again, Thor blocked it with ease. Paul became even more furious. In his mind, Thor wasn’t just resisting, he was looking down on him.

“Shoot him!” Paul shouted at Martin.

Martin let out a long breath.

“Look, buddy, we just want your cash. We don’t want to hurt anybody. But if you’re going to resist, you’re leaving us no choice.”

As he spoke, he lowered the gun and aimed it at Thor’s thighs.

Bang!

The gunshot went off. Martin had actually done his homework. As a high school dropout, he had worked hard studying human anatomy.

After all, if you wanted to make a living on the streets, you still had to maintain a certain level of professionalism. He was only being careful. Hurting someone and killing someone were two completely different charges.

That was why he had deliberately avoided the femoral artery. The shot should hurt like hell for a while, but it wouldn’t be fatal.

Martin was still starting out. He didn’t have any underlings he could throw under the bus, and the last thing he wanted was to spend decades behind bars.

‘This is the moment.’

A surge of excitement ran through Martin. For this one shot, he had spent three and a half years studying books, staying up late, and practicing.

But what happened next was nothing like what he had imagined.

“Whoa, that actually hurt a bit.”

The scene Martin anticipated never happened. Thor didn’t clutch his leg and wail, nor was there a single drop of blood.

“What’s going on?” Martin couldn’t believe it. He instinctively fired another shot at the ground.

Bang!

The bullet blew a small crater into the pavement.

“Nothing wrong with the gun,” Martin muttered. Then his eyes slowly widened.

“Then… is there something wrong with the guy?”

His eyes narrowed as he stared at Thor, who was standing there rubbing his leg.

“Are you a man or a demon?” Martin asked.

“I am a god. Thor, God of Thunder, Prince of Asgard,” Thor said solemnly.

“Quit screwing around,” Martin said, backing away step by step. His face twisted in terror before suddenly faking a smile.

Martin threw his hands up and said, “Buddy, this is all just a misunderstanding. We’ll be leaving now.”

Grabbing Paul, whose legs were shaking violently, the two quickly tried to bolt out of the alley.

“Stop.” This time, it was Thor who said the word.

Hearing that word, Martin and Paul ran even faster. But how could they possibly outrun Thor?

Accelerating just a fraction, Thor caught up in five seconds flat, dragging both of them back into the alley by their collars.

“I was wrong. Please, let us go.” Although terrified, Martin still gathered his courage to plead.

Paul, dangling from Thor’s other hand, had completely lost the viciousness he’d shown earlier.

He hung his head, trembling and muttering under his breath, “I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die…”

Thor tossed both of them onto the ground and looked down at them.

“I can spare your lives. On one condition.”

The two men looked up at him nervously.

“You will be my tour guides for the next few days.”

That bastard Daniel had dumped him here without even giving him a chance to reveal his powers. And to be honest, he wanted to argue.

But the moment he showed the slightest bit of displeasure and tried to push back, the ground beside him was suddenly pierced straight through.

At the same time, Daniel had raised a glowing ball of golden light in his hand.

Thor had felt genuine danger. Even now, he still had a little trauma when it came to Daniel.

‘If I had known this would happen, I never would’ve asked him to drink with me.’

Thor deeply regretted his poor judgment when he had shared the alcohol he had “borrowed” from his father.

Honestly, he would have been better off giving it to anyone else than giving it to Daniel.

That guy had seemed like a perfectly decent person back in Asgard. But the moment he returned to Earth, he had completely changed his attitude.

Thor felt genuinely wronged. How could he have known that Daniel simply didn’t have the time to deal with him right now?

Daniel was too busy holding Susan in his arms. Once he finished taking care of his own business, he would probably come looking for Thor anyway.

After all, even though Thor didn’t have much with him at the moment, there were still plenty of good things waiting for him back home.

Daniel knew he was leaving Thor in a bit of a miserable situation, but he had already thought it through. At worst, he could just buy Thor a huge round of drinks later.

With Thor’s personality, there was practically nothing a good drink couldn’t fix. And if one round wasn’t enough, then two rounds would do the trick.

…

“Tour guides?”

Martin stared at Thor with his mouth hanging open.

“Yeah.” Thor nodded. “I just got to New York, and I’m not familiar with the city.”

“So… what exactly do you mean?” Martin asked cautiously.

“Find me somewhere to stay, then show me around for the next few days. It shouldn’t be for long. Eventually, someone will come to pick me up.”

The moment Thor thought of Daniel, his mood soured. He deliberately referred to him as nothing more than “someone.”

Martin, however, was beginning to find Thor increasingly mysterious.

‘Bullets can’t even hurt him.’

His imagination immediately started running wild.

‘This guy isn’t from Earth.’

Martin glanced at Thor.

‘What kind of human isn’t afraid of bullets? He’s an alien. He came to New York to scout the place, and once his people arrive, they’re probably going to wipe out the whole city.’

The more Martin thought about it, the more elaborate the story became. Before long, he was completely convinced that he had stumbled into some massive alien conspiracy.

Sure, Thor looked like an ordinary guy, but that didn’t mean anything.

Maybe he was wearing human skin. Maybe he had taken over some poor bastard’s body. Otherwise, how could he shrug off bullets like they were nothing?

And judging by the way he was dressed, he didn’t exactly look rich either. That had to be it. The more Martin thought about it, the more certain he became.

The guy standing in front of him was definitely an alien.

And as a brave, fearless son of Earth, he had willingly placed himself in the hands of this dangerous extraterrestrial. From here, he would use his intelligence to uncover the aliens’ plot, expose their plans, and save the world.

‘Forget becoming a gangster. Being a hero doesn’t sound half bad either.’

By the time Martin finished connecting all the imaginary dots, he had completely bought into his own theory. Then he slowly got to his feet.

‘The alien still needs me for now.’

That meant he still had a chance.

“Alright,” Martin said. “You can come back to my place. Stay there for a few days, and I’ll show you around New York.”

Of course, he had no intention of simply doing as Thor asked. He would keep a close eye on him, figure out what he was really up to, and somehow get the information to the outside world.

He was going to be a hero.

“Excellent! Now lead the way,” Thor said happily.

Martin helped Paul to his feet, and the two of them led Thor back to their apartment.

The moment Martin opened the door, Thor stopped, then he covered his nose.

“What is that smell?”

The apartment was a complete disaster. Trash was scattered everywhere, and empty bottles and cans covered the floor.

“It’s a little messy,” Martin said awkwardly.

Then he immediately grabbed Paul and dragged him inside to start cleaning. Neither of them had cleaned the place in over six months.

By the time they finally finished, the sky outside was already beginning to brighten.

Thor looked around the apartment and frowned. The place was nowhere near as comfortable as his palace in Asgard.

Still, Thor wasn’t particularly picky when it came to living conditions. During campaigns and battles, he had slept on the bare ground without complaint.

He could put up with this for a few days. And so, on his very first day on Earth, the mighty God of Thunder ended up spending the night in the apartment of two small-time thugs.
