Chapter 49
The next morning.
The ship set sail in a hurry, much to everyone's surprise. Even so, they didn't think too much of it.
They had no way of knowing that he had actually kidnapped a woman.
Harry frowned slightly when he saw that Daenerys was still asleep. An entire night had already passed, and it wasn't normal for her to still be unconscious.
Just as he reached out to wake her, she finally opened her eyes, making him wonder if she had been pretending.
Noticing Daenerys's confusion, Harry returned to his seat while the little dragon climbed back onto his lap.
Daenerys saw the unfamiliar ceiling and felt the rocking of the ship. She couldn't help feeling frightened until she saw Harry.
The memories of everything that had happened seemed to return to her, leaving her with a dejected expression.
Her brother had not only tried to abuse her, but had even beaten her unconscious. It was then that she touched her face and noticed that she had no injuries.
Somewhat surprised, she could only attribute it to Harry. Looking at him, she couldn't help giving him a grateful smile before taking a moment to look around.
"Where are we?" Daenerys asked, looking at Harry.
"Sailing north. We left Pentos a couple of hours ago," Harry said with a smile as he watched her with interest, wondering when she would notice.
"Hmm, I heard the North is cold," Daenerys said, looking at Harry.
"It is, but a good coat is all you need," Harry said as he continued stroking the little dragon's head.
Daenerys nodded slightly as she remained on the bed, drawing up her legs and hugging her knees.
Her vision blurred as tears fell onto her knees.
"He really hit me. I can still remember the look in his eyes. There was no compassion," Daenerys murmured with a sob.
Harry couldn't help but sigh. Val and Dacey had gone out, otherwise he would have sent one of them to comfort her.
With no other choice, he stood up, holding the little one in one hand, and sat down on the bed beside her.
"It's all right. No one will hurt you again," Harry said, gently stroking her back.
Daenerys looked up, her eyes red and filled with tears. Even so, she still looked beautiful, a sight capable of inspiring pity in anyone.
It was truly difficult to understand how her brother had been able to hit her.
"Thank you, Harry. Without you, who knows what would have happened to me," Daenerys said, wiping away her tears as she sobbed.
Harry simply stroked Daenerys's back and sat silently beside her.
Daenerys didn't seem to want to talk either. She remained in that position for a few more seconds while rubbing her small nose.
It was then that a soft purr caught her attention. Harry was wearing black clothes and the room wasn't well lit, so she hadn't seen it before, but now that she looked carefully, a small lizard seemed to be sitting on his lap.
"Hmm? What kind of animal is that?" Daenerys asked, looking at it curiously.
"It's funny that you're the one asking," Harry said, unable to keep himself from laughing.
"Come on, little one, give me a good roar," Harry said as he stroked the back of its neck with one finger.
Perhaps understanding Harry's intentions, the little dragon let out a high-pitched screech that sounded more adorable than intimidating.
When it spread its wings and revealed its body more clearly, Daenerys's eyes widened in surprise. A dumbfounded expression appeared on her face before she quickly shook her head.
It was impossible. There were no dragons anymore. Even if they returned, surely they would be in the hands of a Targaryen, either her or her brother.
"It seems I really did remove its connection to the Targaryen bloodline. You can't sense it, and it doesn't seem interested in you either," Harry said as he gently touched its wings.
"I found a dragon egg, and I can use magic. It wasn't that difficult," Harry said, shamelessly showing off when he saw the disbelief on Daenerys's face.
"Difficult?" Daenerys murmured almost hysterically. If it wasn't difficult, why wasn't the world full of dragons?
Why, then, had only the dragonlords managed to control those creatures for so long?
Why had her House been wiped out?
"But it's a little different with these eggs," Harry said, using Accio to bring the small, elongated chest toward him.
Harry opened it, revealing three eggs resting on a padded cloth. Daenerys's gaze immediately turned toward them.
"Can I touch them?" Daenerys asked, looking at Harry.
"Of course," Harry said, handing her the chest with interest.
Daenerys reached out with her small, delicate hands and took the chest before placing it on her lap.
Taking out one of the eggs, she looked at it in amazement, a small smile appearing on her face.
"Do you feel anything from the eggs?" Harry asked curiously as he cast a quick inspection spell.
"They feel a little warm," Daenerys said honestly.
Harry noticed that the weak, dormant life within the eggs seemed to have been slightly stimulated by Daenerys.
Small traces of magic seemed to flow toward the egg on their own.
He didn't know whether the warmth Daenerys felt was a mechanism designed to show that the egg was still dormant, or if Daenerys herself was special.
"The eggs are tied to certain bloodlines. My theory is that they were created by blood mages a long time ago. These seem to be linked to your bloodline, although, to be honest, I don't know why you seem able to sense them from a short distance," Harry said, looking at her with interest.
"That way, when the dragon is born, it will have a certain affinity with people of the Targaryen bloodline, allowing it to obey their commands instead of devouring them in a fit of anger."
Daenerys looked at the eggs as she listened to Harry's explanation before turning her gaze toward the little dragon with some envy.
At the same time, the sense of superiority she felt from belonging to House Targaryen had faded somewhat.
Could the Targaryens only control dragons because of magic performed in the past, and not because they were special?
On top of that, Harry had managed to alter that magic with apparent ease, raising his own dragon outside House Targaryen.
"Oh, she finally woke up," a female voice suddenly said, startling Daenerys.
Looking in that direction, she saw two women, one tall with brown hair and the other slightly shorter, with blonde hair and a beautiful face.
"Here, I brought you some food," Dacey said, handing her a tray.
"Wow, you got more dragon eggs," Val said, looking at the chest on the new girl's lap.
"Hmm, they were in the mansion where Daenerys was living," Harry said, nodding.
"Daenerys, so that's your name. It sounds quite unique. You must be a noble, right?" Dacey said, looking at her.
Daenerys looked at Harry with some confusion after hearing her words.
"I didn't tell them your name," Harry said with a slight smile.
"I'm Daenerys Targaryen," the young woman said, unable to hide the pride in her voice.
Dacey looked at her in disbelief before turning stiffly toward Harry.
"You really like trouble, don't you? If the king knew she was with you, he wouldn't just sit back if you refused to hand her over," Dacey said, staring at him incredulously.
Was he really that drawn to things he shouldn't meddle with? A dragon, and now a Targaryen.
"Let's hope for his sake it doesn't come to that," Harry said, rolling his eyes.
Even if Robert found out, Harry would never consider handing Daenerys over simply because he demanded it. He barely knew her, but after getting her out of that situation, handing her over knowing what probably awaited her would be absurd.
Since he had saved her, he should at least take responsibility and look after her until she decided to leave.
As for Robert, Harry had never felt any particular loyalty toward him.
Daenerys looked at Harry in confusion. Although she had accepted her current situation, that didn't mean she completely trusted him.
People always had their reasons for acting, and she wasn't sure what Harry's were for helping her.
Her body?
Her bloodline? Was he trying to put her on the throne?
She really didn't know, but at least Harry seemed to be her best option.
At least he seemed to treat her gently. The presence of other women also reassured her somewhat, especially when she saw the way they interacted with Harry.
They didn't seem to fear him and even spoke to him as equals.
Still somewhat confused, she absentmindedly took the food they had brought her.
....
The days passed as the ship sailed north.
The sea breezes grew colder and colder.
"I bet two more dragons," Theon said, gently tossing a couple of gold coins onto the table.
"I fold," Jon said, looking at his cards.
"Coward," Theon said disdainfully.
"I call," Domeric said, putting down two coins.
Theon then looked at Harry, who was leaning back in his chair, looking quite relaxed.
"I raise five," Harry said, tossing seven gold coins onto the table.
The coins clinked against the table as several members of the group who were already out of the game looked on.
"You're bluffing," Theon said, looking at Harry disdainfully.
"Then pay to see," Harry said with a disdainful smirk.
Theon stared at Harry as if trying to read his expression.
"Tell me, why did you bring the new girl with us?" Domeric suddenly asked as he tossed another five gold coins onto the table.
"I have a compassionate heart," Harry said with a calm smile.
"You brought Val back with us on our last trip, and now you've brought her. Good thing your castle has plenty of rooms," Domeric said with a smile.
"Good thing it does. I could easily house around a hundred women," Harry said, nodding with a smile.
Domeric could only grimace slightly when Harry played along. Looking at his relaxed smile, he couldn't help cursing inwardly.
"I call," Theon suddenly said through gritted teeth as he tossed another five coins onto the table.
Domeric and Harry turned their attention to Theon, who revealed his cards with a nervous smile.
"Flush. Beat that," Theon said, looking at them.
"Full house," Domeric said with a small smile as he slowly placed his cards on the table.
"Shit," Theon muttered as he covered his face. He could forget about going to the brothel next month.
Everyone's gaze immediately turned toward Harry, who wished he had a cigar at that moment.
"Four of a kind," Harry said with an arrogant smile as he placed his cards on the table.
"Son of a bitch, you're cheating," Theon said, feeling like flipping the table over.
"Fuck you, I'm never playing with you again," Domeric said, standing up angrily.
"I'm teaching you the dangers of gambling. It's fine if you don't thank me, but why are you insulting me?" Harry said as he casually collected his money.
"You want me to thank you for taking my money? Come on, let's give him a beating. I don't think he can take all of us," Smalljon said as he ran toward Harry.
Theon immediately followed him, and the rest weren't far behind, throwing themselves at Harry as well.
"Hey, hey, if you can't handle losing, then don't play," Harry said, quickly getting to his feet and running away as the clinking of coins echoed with every step.
The crew quickly moved aside as they watched Harry being chased by the group of heirs.
"Pff." Daenerys barely managed to suppress her laughter as her shoulders trembled, her black hair fluttering in the wind and a necklace with a bright gemstone resting around her neck.
Unlike her, Val and Dacey laughed openly as they watched Harry nimbly dodge the others' attempts to catch him.
The way the coins jingled with every step, with a few occasionally falling from him, only made it funnier.
"You don't have to hold back your laughter," Dacey said, noticing Daenerys's flushed cheeks.
"But wouldn't that be disrespectful?" Daenerys asked uncertainly.
"Harry is usually pretty relaxed. You'll realize that with time," Val said, laughing.
"Oh... and why didn't you play?" Daenerys asked, looking at her. She assumed they hadn't played because they were women.
"Forget it. I promised I'd never play with Harry again," Dacey said with a grimace.
"We ended up naked and drunk," Val said with a quiet laugh.
"Why?" Daenerys asked, her cheeks red.
"The loser had to remove a piece of clothing. When we ended up naked with nothing else to take off, Harry suggested we have a drink every time we lost," Dacey said irritably.
"I'm still not sure whether he cheats or not," Val said, looking at Harry, who had managed to escape.
"He invented the game. I'm sure he knows how to cheat," Dacey said, shrugging.
At first, she could accept that Harry kept winning. They were all new to the game he had introduced to pass the time during the journey, but after more than a month, none of them considered themselves beginners anymore.
The fact that Harry still hadn't lost any money didn't make sense.
"You seem like a very fun group," Daenerys said softly, her blue eyes tinged with envy.
"What are you talking about? It looks like you're part of it now too," Dacey said, patting her shoulder and making Daenerys's small body tremble.
A small but bitter smile appeared on Daenerys's lips. She would have liked to agree, but she still didn't even know what plans Harry had for her.
