My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

Chapter 215: Darkness Under the Lamp

"Wait, who did you say? Chu Feng?" Zhao Qinghan asked, stunned.

"That’s right. His name is Chu Feng. He’s twenty-seven, has a sturdy build, and is about 178cm tall. He’s incredibly strong. I heard these two mention something about the Chu Family," Wan Jie said.

"Oh? The Chu Family?" Zhao Gong’s curiosity was instantly piqued. "Qinghan, do you know this person? What’s your relationship with him?"

"Yes, I know him. We’re on decent terms. The Tang Family of the Qing Gang used to target him, but they never gained any ground. Now, they don’t dare provoke him," Zhao Qinghan said.

"I knew he was strong, but I never imagined he was *this* strong," Zhao Qinghan continued. "This has to be the Peak of Qi Cultivation, at least."

She had sparred with Chu Feng before. Although it had just been tentative, neither of them going all out, she had never imagined his abilities reached such a level.

Chu Feng was about the same age as them, yet he was far stronger. He had easily dispatched two master thieves of the Qi Cultivation Realm, a clear testament to his formidable power.

"Hmph. When did the Chu Family produce such a remarkable young man? Why haven’t I ever heard of him?" Zhao Gong asked, a look of confusion on his face.

"It’s like this, Uncle Qi. Chu Feng is indeed a member of the Chu Family, that’s true. But his grandfather’s generation was expelled from the family. So, while he’s related by blood, he doesn’t really have a strong connection to them."

Zhao Gong’s expression grew solemn. "To think that even the descendant of an expelled outcast from the Chu Family is this strong... Then how powerful must their other disciples be?"

"I don’t know the specifics of that, but the Taiqing Fist Skill he used is definitely from the Chu Family," Zhao Qinghan stated with conviction.

"Oh? And how far into the fist skill can he get?" Zhao Gong asked, even more intrigued.

The Chu Family had suffered a blow tantamount to annihilation in the events of the past. As a result, they had all but vanished for the last several decades.

There had been absolutely no news of them during that time, which was why Zhao Gong was so intensely curious.

"Uncle Qi, how would I know? It’s not like I’ve had a real fight with him. We’ve only sparred casually a few times, never getting serious. If you want, I can try to set up a meeting for you two to talk," Zhao Qinghan offered.

"That would be great. By all means, arrange it. If you can get him to meet me tomorrow, that would be even better," Zhao Gong said with a smile, his face full of anticipation.

He was eager to see for himself just how powerful this young man from the Chu Family truly was.

The main reason for his interest, however, was that the Zhao Family and the Chu Family had once been on excellent terms. It was only in recent decades, after the Chu Family went into seclusion, that their interactions had dwindled.

They no longer made public appearances, having retreated from the world entirely.

Of course, the Chu Family was merely biding their time and building their strength. When the moment was right, they would surely re-emerge.

After all, their feud with the Qing Gang was irreconcilable and demanded vengeance.

But with the Qing Gang’s power growing ever stronger, the Chu Family could only lay low, not daring to challenge them directly. This, however, was all temporary.

After all, any Martial Arts Family that had survived to the present day had weathered countless crises throughout history. Their persistence was proof of their unique strengths.

Just then, Zhao Gong slapped Scarface across the face.

SLAP!

The slap was loud, and Scarface’s face instantly flushed red.

At that very moment, Scarface groggily came to.

He felt a fiery sting on his cheek, and a rage that had been brewing in his gut threatened to erupt.

But when he saw the man before him, his whole body shuddered. He cried out in shock, "The Seventh Master of the Zhao Family?"

"Scarface, I told you before: don’t let me catch you. Otherwise, your end will be a miserable one," Zhao Gong sneered, his smile so vicious it sent a chill down the spine.

"Hah! You’re shameless. With your pathetic level of skill? Let me go if you’ve got the guts! I could crush you with one hand!" Scarface retorted, completely unconvinced of Zhao Gong’s prowess.

’If it weren’t for Chu Feng, how could I have possibly been defeated?’

Scarface felt not the slightest fear toward the man before him.

"All you can do now is run your mouth. Don’t worry, I’ll be taking you back to the Zhao Family. Once we’re there, the various tortures will make you regret the day you were born," Zhao Gong said with a vicious grin.

Zhao Gong, for his part, didn’t give Scarface a second thought. If it came to a real fight, he was confident he could take down both him and his partner.

"I’ve run free for years! You think I’m scared of you? Bring it on if you’ve got the balls!" Scarface yelled defiantly.

"Qinghan, take him away," Zhao Gong said to Zhao Qinghan.

Wan Jie stood by without a word. Her superiors had already given their tacit approval for this.

This criminal was a hot potato. The Inspection Bureau simply didn’t have the manpower to hold someone like him.

"Right," Zhao Qinghan nodded, then signaled for the men behind her to act.

In a room not far away, One-Eyed was, unbelievably, hiding.

He wore a hat, revealing a single, gloomy eye.

No one would have ever imagined he’d dare to hide in the most obvious place.

In fact, no one in the entire Inspection Bureau had noticed that the man had blended in and was now holed up in one of the cells.

It was the last place anyone would think to look.

’Sigh... If I get a chance, I have to rescue Scarface,’ One-Eyed Dragon thought to himself. ’With the two of us together, that piece of crap Zhao Gong would be nothing to fear. But they have too many people... it’s too risky.’

After all, the Zhao Family had brought plenty of men. If he couldn’t rescue Scarface on his first attempt, he’d be caught as well.

The fact that he couldn’t see Chu Feng, however, was a huge relief. The person he truly feared was Chu Feng.

If he ran into Chu Feng, he probably wouldn’t even be able to escape.

If Chu Feng were present, there was no way in hell he’d try to save Scarface. His only option would be to flee Beihai immediately and never return.

He’d had an opportunity to rescue Scarface earlier, but he had hidden until now, worried that Chu Feng might still be around.

He had seen Chu Feng drive away, but he still felt a sense of unease.

He may have had only one eye, but his mind was incredibly deep and his nature exceedingly cautious.

This caution was precisely why he had managed to evade capture for so many years.

Many Martial Arts Families had set traps for them in the past, but the pair had always escaped, thanks entirely to his prudence.
