Chapter 194: Deadly Singing
"Alright, that’s enough. You head over first. It’ll take your sister-in-law at least half an hour to get changed," Chu Feng said, sending Zhao Quan off.
This guy had no filter, saying whatever came to mind.
To put it nicely, he was just straightforward. To be blunt, he had low emotional intelligence.
"Alright, Big Bro, I’m heading out first. You two hurry over, okay?" Zhao Quan said cheerfully and drove away.
Half an hour later, Su Miaoke emerged, dressed and ready.
"Honey, where’s Zhao Quan?" Su Miaoke asked as she stepped out of the room.
"He went ahead to order for us. Told us to join him in a bit," Chu Feng replied.
"Okay. So, what do you think of my outfit? Do I look good?" Su Miaoke asked happily, standing before Chu Feng and giving a little twirl.
"It looks great. Of course it does. You look good in anything," Chu Feng said with a smile.
"Hmph, so half-hearted. You men," Su Miaoke said, rolling her eyes at Chu Feng, clearly unsatisfied with his answer.
Chu Feng then drove out of the factory complex. As they reached the gate, he suddenly stopped the car.
"Xiao Wu, I need you to increase patrols lately, especially inside the complex around my office. Make sure no one gets near it. If you notice anything unusual, report to me immediately," Chu Feng instructed.
"Yes, President Chu!" Wu Yongzhi gave a sharp salute.
After Chu Feng’s car drove off, Xiao Liu curiously asked the man beside him, "Captain, what do you think President Chu meant? Is he hiding some treasure in his office?"
"Why all the questions? Just do what the boss tells you to do. Don’t you know you shouldn’t ask about things that don’t concern you?" Wu Yongzhi chided Xiao Liu.
In truth, Wu Yongzhi had a vague idea of what was going on. ’But things like that have nothing to do with small fries like us.’
By the time Chu Feng drove to the Beihai Hotel, night had fallen.
Just as Chu Feng was about to pull into a spot up ahead, a Rolls-Royce Phantom beat him to it.
This annoyed Chu Feng a little, but he simply parked in an adjacent spot.
As Chu Feng and Su Miaoke were getting out of their car, an old man emerged from the adjacent Rolls-Royce Phantom.
The old man wore a Tang suit. His temples were gray, but he was full of vigor, and his stride was powerful.
Chu Feng found himself impressed after just one glance.
"Now this is interesting," Chu Feng murmured under his breath.
"Huh? Honey, what did you say?" Su Miaoke hadn’t quite heard him.
"That old man is no ordinary person," Chu Feng said.
Su Miaoke glanced at the old man heading into the hotel, flanked by several bodyguards.
"Isn’t that obvious? He’s probably just another big shot. I’ve never seen him before, though," Su Miaoke commented.
"No, he’s more than that," Chu Feng said.
"More than that? You mean he’s a martial artist too?" Su Miaoke asked in surprise.
Chu Feng nodded.
"Let’s not worry about him. We should go eat," Chu Feng said.
’The man might be a martial artist with some skill, but that was of no concern to him.’
"Okay, let’s eat. I’m starving," Su Miaoke agreed with a nod.
As the two of them reached the hotel entrance, they saw Hu Biao respectfully greeting the old man in the Tang suit.
"Mr. He, right this way, please. Your private room is ready. Mr. Huang and the others are already inside waiting for you," Hu Biao said, his face a mask of reverent smiles, not daring to show the slightest displeasure.
The old man in the Tang suit nodded and walked inside.
Hu Biao personally escorted them all the way to their private room, only letting out a sigh of relief once they were inside.
Just then, Chu Feng walked in. The moment Hu Biao saw him, a smile instantly bloomed on his face as well.
"Mr. Chu, you’re here! Young Master Zhao is waiting for you," Hu Biao said graciously.
The more dealings he had with Chu Feng, the more he realized how extraordinary the man was. ’Even a young master from the Zhao Family like Zhao Quan treats him with such courtesy. Chu Feng’s status must be truly exceptional.’
"Alright," Chu Feng nodded.
Suddenly, Chu Feng asked, "By the way, who was that man from earlier?"
Chu Feng was suddenly a little curious about the old man.
"You don’t recognize him, Mr. Chu?" Hu Biao asked, glancing at Chu Feng in surprise.
Chu Feng didn’t answer, merely fixing his gaze on Hu Biao.
Hu Biao instantly realized his mistake. He quickly lowered his voice and said, "The gentleman from before is He Guangming, the head of the He Family from East Sea. They say he calls the shots in over half of East Sea." He spoke cautiously, afraid of being overheard.
"Oh? From East Sea? What are they doing all the way out here? Business? Who else is with them?" Chu Feng pressed.
"That, I’m not sure about. There’s also a Mr. Huang, the ore king of Beihai. In all of Beihai, if Sixth Master Zhao is number one, he’s the undisputed number two!" Hu Biao said carefully.
"Alright, I understand. You can get back to work. You’re a sharp man. If I get the chance, I’ll put in a good word for you with Sixth Master," Chu Feng said with a satisfied nod.
’As expected of someone who’s worked here for years. Hu Biao is perceptive; he could read my intentions from a single glance.’
"Oh, thank you so much, Mr. Chu! Whether you put in a good word isn’t important. What matters is that you enjoy yourself and have a good meal every time you visit," Hu Biao said, his excitement palpable, though he didn’t forget to lay on the flattery.
He might be the general manager of the Beihai Hotel now, but moving any higher would be incredibly difficult. ’Without someone influential to pull me up, this is likely as far as I’ll ever go in this life.’
If Chu Feng really put in a good word for him, his prospects would be much brighter.
"Go on," Chu Feng said.
He then went to the private room. It was their usual one—the one Chu Feng used every time he came.
Clearly, Hu Biao kept it reserved specifically for him.
For any dinner party involving Chu Feng, this room was a must.
When he went inside, Chu Feng found Zhao Quan in the middle of a song, caterwauling so badly that it would give a ghost nightmares.
It was a good thing the room was so well soundproofed; otherwise, they would have been flooded with complaints.
"Stop singing. It’s terrible," Chu Feng cut in.
"Big Bro, you’re here!" Zhao Quan was delighted to see Chu Feng.
"Er... I’ve been tone-deaf my whole life, but I absolutely love music. Back home, the family never let me sing. It’s only out here that I can let loose a little every day," Zhao Quan explained.
Chu Feng and Su Miaoke were speechless.
People sing for money; he sings for your life. Only a ghost would want to hear him sing.
After all, no one was a glutton for punishment.
