My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

Chapter 169: Don’t Touch My Liquor

His damned survival instinct was off the charts.

After all, with his mom on one side and his older sister on the other, he couldn’t afford to offend either of them.

Offend one, and your allowance is gone. Offend the other, and you’ll suffer the consequences.

"Hmph! If you dare say anything like that again, you can get out," Su Miaoke said.

Su Jun was too scared to say another word.

Soon, all the dishes were brought to the table.

When Chu Feng saw the table laden with food, his eyes lit up. The dishes were a feast for the senses, perfect in color, aroma, and flavor.

"It smells amazing. Who made all this?" Chu Feng asked.

"The three of us made it. Why don’t you have a taste and see if you can figure out which dish I made?" Su Miaoke said with a smile.

Chu Feng picked up a piece of fish with his chopsticks, placed it in his mouth, and savored it slowly. A moment later, his face lit up with pleasant surprise.

"Delicious! Qingyao must have made this, right?" Chu Feng asked.

Hearing Chu Feng’s praise, Jiang Qingyao instantly blushed. She nodded and said, "Yes, Brother-in-law. How is it?"

"It’s delicious. No wonder Su Jun said your cooking is incredible. It looks like he was right," Chu Feng said with a smile.

"Then hurry up and try this chicken," Su Miaoke said to Chu Feng.

Chu Feng picked up a piece of chicken with his chopsticks and popped it into his mouth.

"This, of course, was made by my wife," Chu Feng said with a smile.

"If you knew I made it, why didn’t you say whether it was good or not? What, you don’t like it?" Su Miaoke said, her expression turning into a slight pout because Chu Feng hadn’t praised her after taking a bite.

"Of course it’s delicious. Anything my wife makes has to be delicious," Chu Feng said with a laugh. He knew this was just how Su Miaoke was, acting like a little girl from time to time.

"Xiao Feng, now you have to guess which dish I made," his mother-in-law asked.

"Mom, I don’t even have to guess. The soup is definitely yours. I knew it the moment I smelled it," Chu Feng said, then ladled a bowl for himself and took a sip.

"Wow, Brother-in-law, how are you so good at this?" Su Jun was filled with admiration, seeing that Chu Feng had guessed everything correctly.

"Alright, let’s all eat," Chu Feng said.

Everyone dug in.

"It’s a shame Dad isn’t here, or we could have had a few drinks. I even brought a case of 300-year-old Guojiao for him," Chu Feng said.

"I guess he’s just not fated to enjoy it right now. Xiao Feng, you have no idea. After you gave him that last case, he was so happy he called up every single one of his old buddies to brag. It’s only been a few days, and he already drank half of it. He took the rest with him abroad," his mother-in-law said.

"No problem, I have another case right here. We can just drink it when Dad gets back," Chu Feng said with a smile.

"Alright, you can tell him that yourself. Miaoke told me you two are heading back today?" his mother-in-law asked.

"Yes, Miaoke and I are planning to head back for a bit," Chu Feng said with a nod.

"So how long are you planning to stay this time? Why don’t you bring your parents over here to live? We have so much space, we could even buy another place just for them. Living in the city is more convenient than the countryside. And that way, our whole family could get together for meals whenever we want. Wouldn’t that be lovely?" his mother-in-law said.

"Sigh. Mom, I’ve already tried talking to them about it. They say they wouldn’t be able to settle in, that they’re more comfortable and relaxed back home. It’s a better place for them to retire. After all, it’s hard to leave the land of your birth. You always return to your roots in the end," Chu Feng said with a smile.

’Truth be told, it wasn’t just his parents. He, too, longed to return to the hometown where he was born and raised.’

’Which wandering soul, far from home, doesn’t carry a piece of that homesickness in their heart?’

’After all, your hometown is the place that gave you life, the place that holds all your most cherished memories.’

"That’s true. If I had to live in the countryside all the time, I don’t think I could stand it either," his mother-in-law said, nodding. After all, she was used to her life in Beihai City, a daily routine of leisure and entertainment.

If she were sent to the countryside for a year, or even just six months, she’d probably lose her mind.

"So, have you and Miaoke thought about when you’ll hold the wedding?" his mother-in-law asked, continuing her questions.

"Probably around the end of the year. We still have a lot to take care of right now. When the time comes, Mom, you and Dad have to be there," Chu Feng said with a smile.

’Even though the wedding would be in the countryside, his father-in-law and mother-in-law would definitely have to be there.’

"Don’t you worry. I’m her mother, of course I’ll be there! I wouldn’t miss it. Now, hurry and eat before the food gets cold," his mother-in-law said.

"Brother-in-law, I want to go too!" Su Jun shouted excitedly.

"Me too," Jiang Qingyao added quietly.

"Don’t worry, none of you are getting out of it. You all have to come," Chu Feng said with a laugh.

The family ate, talking and laughing together. Midway through the meal, Chu Feng received a video call from his father-in-law.

Su Jun had sent him a message to let him know what was happening.

So, his father-in-law had taken a moment out of his packed schedule to video call Chu Feng.

"Son-in-law! I’m stuck abroad and just can’t get away, otherwise I’d be drinking with you until we drop!" Su Linsheng’s hearty voice boomed.

He could be seen in a conference room, surrounded by several other people.

"Dad, it’s no problem. Just focus on your work and come back when you’re done. I brought you another case of the 300-year-old Guojiao. We can drink it together when you’re back," Chu Feng said with a smile.

"What? Son-in-law, you really are the best! I love you to death, my boy! If you were here right now, I’d give you a big kiss!" Su Linsheng’s eyes lit up with delight when he heard Chu Feng’s words.

’Chu Feng had no doubt that if his father-in-law were standing right there, he really would plant a big kiss on him.’

"Brother-in-law, if Dad can’t drink it, then we will! How about a bottle each to start?" Su Jun said, grabbing a bottle of Guojiao and cracking it open.

On the other end of the video call, Su Linsheng’s eyes went wide as saucers, his face filled with rage.

"You little bastard! Don’t you touch my liquor!" Su Linsheng roared.

But Su Jun paid him no mind. Su Linsheng was all the way abroad, after all.

"You know how to drink?" Chu Feng asked, glancing at Su Jun.

"Are you kidding me, Brother-in-law? Is there anything I *can’t* do? I’m an expert in eating, drinking..." Su Jun trailed off. He’d been about to list the other two classic vices, but he stopped short when he remembered Jiang Qingyao was sitting beside them.

"Alright, have a little, but don’t overdo it. I don’t want Qingyao coming after me later," Chu Feng said.

"I won’t, Brother-in-law. This is a family dinner, not like we’re out on the town. It’s different," Su Jun said.

"It’s fine, Brother-in-law. Go ahead and drink. You’re at home, so it’s okay," Jiang Qingyao said, ever so reasonable.

"See that? If you don’t treat her right, I’ll have to break your legs," Chu Feng said with a grin, though his words carried a playful threat.
