Chapter 168: That Damned Will to Survive
"Jiang Tao is really generous. A case like this would probably auction for tens of millions," Su Miaoke said.
"Probably more than that. He told me last time that someone offered him a hundred million for a case, and he turned them down flat," Chu Feng said.
"He’s certainly generous with you now. In the eyes of a wine lover, they probably wouldn’t sell this even for two hundred million," Su Miaoke said with a smile.
"Well, whatever. He gave them to me anyway. One case for your dad, one for my dad. It’s perfect," Chu Feng said.
"Alright, let’s go buy groceries," Su Miaoke said.
Afterward, Chu Feng drove his big Benz to the largest nearby market and did some shopping.
When they arrived at his in-laws’ house, Chu Feng was surprised to find that Su Jun was actually up early, sitting with Jiang Qingyao on the second-floor balcony, sunbathing and drinking tea.
"Aren’t you supposed to be at work today? What? Are you trying to slack off again?" When Su Miaoke saw Su Jun like this, she was about to explode, questioning him angrily.
Su Miaoke was truly angry this time. She couldn’t believe that just a few days after starting at the factory, Su Jun had become so lazy and irresponsible again.
"Huh? Work? What work?" Su Jun was a bit bewildered, looking at his sister.
"What do you mean, ’what work’? What did you promise me before? Is this how you keep your promise?" Su Miaoke was furious, pointing at Su Jun, wishing she could just throw him off the second floor.
"Sis, it’s a day off today. It’s the weekend. What work am I supposed to be doing?" Su Jun said, his face a mixture of speechlessness and wrongful accusation.
He was truly at a loss for words, not expecting to get chewed out by his sister first thing in the morning.
"The weekend? Are you sure?" Su Miaoke, who had been about to erupt again, frowned with a look of doubt upon hearing this.
"Yes, Sister Miaoke. Today is the weekend. Su Jun has been working hard these past few days. I can vouch for that," Jiang Qingyao said at this moment.
Su Miaoke took out her phone and checked the date. It was indeed the weekend.
She spent all her time on Cultivation nowadays, so she had lost track of time a bit and didn’t bother remembering the date or the day of the week.
"Fine. But if I find out you’re skipping work and messing around like before, you’re dead!" Su Miaoke didn’t forget to warn Su Jun.
"Are you even my sister? I’m starting to wonder if you were the one they found in the trash, or if I was. You’re being completely unreasonable," Su Jun said with a helpless expression. He got a headache just looking at his sister now; he was terrified of her.
"Alright, Su Jun, you know your sister has a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Your sister and I bought a lot of groceries, so come give us a hand with them," Chu Feng said.
"Brother-in-law, how come you have time to come over with groceries?" Su Jun asked curiously. He had been trying to invite Chu Feng out to eat for the past few days, but Chu Feng always said he was busy and didn’t even have time to answer his calls.
"Your sister and I are going back to my hometown tomorrow, so we thought we’d all have a meal together today," Chu Feng said.
"Oh, I see. But my dad isn’t here. He went to talk business. I think he went really far away, to some country... I forgot which one," Su Jun said.
"He went abroad? Then he must be there on business. After all, they’re planning to enter the overseas market." Chu Feng figured it out instantly. The Su Group was getting non-stop business these days.
"I don’t know. He just said he was going to negotiate a big deal. Said if he pulls it off, it’ll be a huge help to the entire company," Su Jun said.
"Um, Brother-in-law, why don’t you and Su Jun chat? I’ll go help Miaoke and her mom with the food," Jiang Qingyao said sensibly.
"Qingyao, are you going to cook?" Chu Feng asked with a smile.
"I’ll give it a try. My cooking is a little bad, so I hope you won’t mind later, Brother-in-law," Jiang Qingyao said shyly.
After saying this, she left to help Su Miaoke and Chu Feng’s mother-in-law with the cooking.
"Su Jun, how’s work been lately? Is everything going smoothly?" Chu Feng asked, sitting down beside him.
"It’s awesome. Being a manager is the best. Everyone has to respectfully call me ’Boss’ when they see me. Those arrogant team leaders from before practically bow and scrape now. The feeling is just too good," Su Jun said with a happy grin.
"What about your girlfriend? Is she working at the factory with you?" Chu Feng asked.
"Yeah, she’s with me. She’s learning from the veteran employees at the factory right now. I’ll arrange a specific job for her once she’s got the hang of things," Su Jun said.
"Good, as long as you have a plan. But don’t let Qingyao get too tired," Chu Feng said with a nod.
"Of course! She’s my wife. How could I let her get tired? I’ll definitely pick the easiest work for her," Su Jun said confidently.
"Good that you know. Once you’ve both gotten some solid experience, you can move to the main office. Then you’ll gradually get exposure to the core management. In a few more years, your dad can slowly start thinking about retirement and helping you with your kids," Chu Feng said with a smile.
"Brother-in-law, you make it sound so easy. I want that too, but I know it won’t be that simple. I still have a long way to go. Actually, my sister is a better fit for it. She’s the one who’s a natural at business," Su Jun said.
"Is anyone really a natural at business? Isn’t it something you have to learn over time?" Chu Feng said with a smile.
"I feel like it really does depend on talent. Some people can study for ages and still be bad at management," Su Jun said with a sigh.
"Don’t be in a rush. You’re just starting out. Take it slow," Chu Feng said.
"Of course. Why would I be in a rush? With you backing me up, Brother-in-law, what’s there to worry about?" Su Jun said with a laugh.
The two of them chatted just like that, and a few hours passed without them noticing. The sun had climbed high into the sky.
"Time to eat," Su Miaoke said to Chu Feng.
"Food, food!" Su Jun immediately jumped to his feet, overjoyed. When it came to eating, it was as if he had come back to life.
"Are you always this happy when it’s time to eat?" Chu Feng couldn’t help but ask with a laugh.
"Brother-in-law, you have no idea how delicious Qingyao’s cooking is. I used to think I didn’t really like eating, but now I understand. It’s not that I don’t like to eat, I just don’t like food made by other people!" Su Jun said to Chu Feng.
However, his words were overheard by Su Miaoke and his mother.
"What did you just say, you brat? Are you saying my cooking is bad?" Chu Feng’s mother-in-law scolded.
"What? You think I can’t cook? Then get out and eat somewhere else!" Su Miaoke flared up, pointing toward the door.
"Whoa, Mom, Sis, you misunderstood me! I meant the food outside is bad. The only food I love is the food made by Mom, you, and Qingyao," Su Jun said hastily, feeling a cold sweat break out on his back.
