Chapter 157: Buying a Car and a House
Chu Feng answered the phone, and Su Jun’s voice immediately came through the line.
"Brother-in-law, I got paid! I actually made sixteen thousand this time!" Su Jun said excitedly.
"That much? You sure the finance department didn’t make a mistake? You might have to give it back," Chu Feng said with a laugh.
He knew, however, that this was definitely Sister Zhou pulling some strings for him.
"Where’s my sister? Is she with you? Tell her to come pick me up!" Su Jun said smugly.
Chu Feng had the phone on speaker. He knew Su Jun was just trying to show off to his sister, Su Miaoke.
"Only sixteen thousand? And here I was, thinking you’d made a fortune," Su Miaoke said dismissively.
Su Jun wanted a word of praise from her, but Su Miaoke was determined not to give him the satisfaction.
"What’s wrong with sixteen thousand? It’s more than five thousand, isn’t it? Weren’t you the one looking down on me? You’d better be ready to make good on your promise. I’ve already quit my job, so come and get me," Su Jun said.
"Can’t you just take the bus? Why on earth should I come and get you?" Su Miaoke said.
"I don’t care! I want *you* to pick me up. Get over here, now!" Su Jun said defiantly.
"Get over there my ass. If I come over, it’ll be to give you a beating," Su Miaoke shot back.
"Fine, don’t come then! So fierce. Only Brother-in-law would put up with you. Who else would want you? I’ll just have my brother-in-law come get me. Brother-in-law, hurry up and come pick me up! We’ll go get the car, and then buy a house," Su Jun said.
"What did you say? You dare call me a tigress? Just you wait, I’ll teach you the meaning of ’regret’!" Su Miaoke shot up from the bed, rushed to Chu Feng’s side, grabbed the phone, and roared into it.
She felt a mix of frustration and exasperation toward her younger brother, wishing he would live up to his potential.
Hearing Su Miaoke’s roar, Su Jun immediately panicked.
"I didn’t! Sis, you’re my dear sister, how could I possibly call you a tigress? You’re my favorite!" Su Jun immediately backed down.
"Alright, we’re coming to get you now," Chu Feng said with a smile before hanging up.
"Su Jun is your brother, after all. You shouldn’t be so harsh with him," Chu Feng said.
"You don’t get it. If I’m not harsh with that little brat, he’ll get too big for his britches. Give him an inch, and he’ll take a mile," Su Miaoke said.
"Go get dressed. I’ll make breakfast. He’s suffered for over a month, and he’s just started a new relationship. I’m sure he won’t be as immature as he used to be," Chu Feng said.
"So, Chu Feng, you dare to buy him a car behind my back?" Instead of getting ready, Su Miaoke grabbed Chu Feng’s ear and demanded an answer.
"Well... I was thinking about getting a new SUV anyway. Since Su Jun was working at the factory, I just promised him that if he did a good job, I’d get it for him," Chu Feng said.
"Hmph. Then you can walk there and buy it yourself," Su Miaoke said with a cold snort. Chu Feng didn’t manage their finances; Su Miaoke held the purse strings.
So, if Su Miaoke didn’t go, Chu Feng had no money to buy a car.
"Your brother has a point. You do have a bit of a temper. You should try to control it. Getting so angry all the time is bad for your health," Chu Feng said.
"What’s that supposed to mean? Are you trying to say I’m a tigress, too?" Su Miaoke’s eyes narrowed as she stared at Chu Feng.
"No! Absolutely not! You’re my wife, how could you be a tigress? But honey, I really do want to get a new car. Please come with me," Chu Feng said.
"Tch. Good for him. He makes sixteen thousand in one month, and I bet ten thousand of that was a bonus from Sister Zhou. With that little money, he wants to buy a car? He probably can’t even afford the insurance!" Su Miaoke said.
"He’s young and just starting out. Making sixteen thousand is already pretty good," Chu Feng said.
"Pretty good? When I was interviewing for my first job, I was getting offers starting at three hundred thousand a year," Su Miaoke said, rolling her eyes at Chu Feng.
"Some companies even tried to poach me with offers of five hundred thousand or eight hundred thousand a year, plus stock options," Su Miaoke continued.
Chu Feng: "..."
"Okay, why don’t you go get ready. I’ll make breakfast," Chu Feng said.
He didn’t dare bring up the topic again. It was just too damaging to his pride.
Half an hour later, after they had finished breakfast, the two drove off to pick up Su Jun.
As they pulled up to the factory gate, they could see Su Jun from a distance, chatting comfortably with a security guard. Jiang Qingyao was standing by his side.
Chu Feng honked the horn, and the sound drew their attention.
"That’s my brother-in-law!" Su Jun exclaimed happily when he heard the honk.
Su Jun immediately grabbed Jiang Qingyao’s hand and headed for the gate.
The moment Chu Feng stepped out of the car, Su Jun rushed over and gave him a huge hug.
"Brother-in-law! I missed you like crazy!" Su Jun said cheerfully.
"You’re a grown man, what’s with all the hugging?" Chu Feng pushed Su Jun away.
"So? Learn anything this time?" Chu Feng asked.
"I did! Money’s hard to earn, life sucks, and the food in that cafeteria isn’t fit for human consumption," Su Jun said.
"So you get it now. From now on, you’d better straighten up and stop messing around. Otherwise, I’ll throw you on a boat and make you fish eighteen hours a day, and no one will be able to stop me," Chu Feng said.
"Whoa, Brother-in-law, you don’t have to be so brutal. Don’t worry, I know how precious money is now. You have no idea how frugally I had to live at the factory. I could cry just thinking about it," Su Jun said, his voice laced with bitterness.
"Tch, you think I don’t know you? You’re only acting this way because you’re broke. If you had money, who knows how wild you’d be. But you’re with someone now, so you’d better treat her right. No messing around, you hear me? Or you’ll have me to answer to," Chu Feng continued.
"Don’t worry, Brother-in-law, I get it now. I definitely won’t mess around anymore. Let’s go, we need to get something to eat. I’m starving," Su Jun said.
Seeing Su Jun looking so famished he was practically concave, Chu Feng couldn’t help but laugh.
After this period of hardship, Su Jun was a little tanner and had also gotten much thinner.
The factory food being what it was, combined with the high-intensity work, it would have been a miracle if he *hadn’t* lost weight.
"Alright, get in the car," Chu Feng said.
Su Jun pulled Jiang Qingyao into the car. She was still a little reserved, even though she had met Chu Feng and Su Miaoke before.
After all, her family background was ordinary, and being around such wealthy people made her a little nervous deep down.
"Where to? Should we get something to eat or head home?" Chu Feng asked Su Jun.
"Home! Let’s go home! My mom’s already cooked a huge feast and is waiting for me," Su Jun said, his voice full of anticipation.
