Chapter 102: The Village is Pretty Good, Too
"Hahaha, I don’t think you’re getting that hundred-thousand-yuan allowance. It’s not like you’re actually studying in college—you’re just goofing off. That degree of yours is worthless. If you gave it to a normal company, they’d probably have to think for a few days before deciding," Chu Feng said with a laugh.
He knew his little brother-in-law all too well. Drinking, womanizing, gambling—he did it all.
’With a hundred thousand in allowance every month, it’d be a miracle if he was actually studying.’
"I don’t believe you. Stop putting me down, Brother-in-law. I can definitely do it," Su Jun said with great confidence.
"If you say so. Go on and try. You’ll find out once the real world has knocked you around a bit," Chu Feng said with a smile.
"Hmph, I don’t believe any of that. It’s just finding a job that pays five thousand a month. That’s a piece of cake," Su Jun said scornfully.
In his eyes, was five thousand yuan even real money? Of course not. Finding a job that paid five thousand a month had to be as easy as breathing.
"Alright, you two, stop arguing. I’ll go make you a late-night snack," said Chu Feng’s mother-in-law. ’The most important thing is that he’s okay.’
"Chu Feng, did your parents head back today? How come they left without saying anything?" Su Linsheng asked.
"They left this morning. They were insistent on going back, so there was nothing I could do," Chu Feng said, shaking his head with a helpless sigh. "Dad, when you have some free time, our whole family should go visit the countryside for a few days."
"Sounds good. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the countryside. I hear it’s quite nice there now, a great place to retire," Su Linsheng said with a smile.
He was growing more and more fond of his son-in-law, Chu Feng. Chu Feng had saved his precious son twice in a row, and had even saved him once.
That night, Chu Feng and his father-in-law drank quite a bit, and Su Jun inevitably received one lecture after another.
They drank until the early hours of the morning before Chu Feng finally left his father-in-law’s house.
The next day, Chu Feng and Su Miaoke went over to her parents’ house first thing in the morning.
It was already seven-thirty. Most companies started their hiring at eight.
"Mom, where’s Su Jun?" Chu Feng asked.
"Still in bed, sleeping," his mother-in-law said with a helpless expression.
’He’s been like this for years.’
"Don’t worry about him for now. You two eat breakfast first." The mother-in-law brought out the breakfast she’d made and had Chu Feng and Su Miaoke start eating.
"Alright." Chu Feng wasn’t in a rush. He was starving anyway, so he started eating.
After he’d had his fill, Chu Feng went upstairs and knocked on Su Jun’s door.
But there was no answer, even after knocking for a long time.
"Kick it down!" Su Miaoke was furious and told Chu Feng to just kick the door in.
Chu Feng nodded.
BAM!
A single kick sent the door flying into the room.
The sudden, deafening crash didn’t even startle Su Jun awake. He didn’t react at all, still snoring away.
Meanwhile, his mother-in-law heard the noise from downstairs and came rushing up.
"He’s still asleep?" Chu Feng was speechless.
Chu Feng walked over and hauled Su Jun up.
Su Jun, still completely dazed, opened his bleary eyes, having no idea what was going on.
"Sis? Brother-in-law?" Su Jun mumbled, completely baffled.
SLAP!
Su Miaoke strode forward and slapped Su Jun across the face. The stinging pain snapped him wide awake.
"Do you know what time it is? You’re still sleeping! Didn’t you say you were going to apply for jobs today? You’re about to miss all the interviews! By the time you wake up on your own, it’ll be dark out! Apply for a job, my ass!" Su Miaoke said, furious at his utter uselessness.
After getting slapped, Su Jun looked completely wronged, but he didn’t dare show his anger.
"Hurry up and get ready. We’re leaving as soon as you finish breakfast," Chu Feng said.
"Oh," Su Jun said meekly.
He never dared to be defiant in front of his sister and brother-in-law.
Under the watchful eyes of his sister and brother-in-law, Su Jun quickly got ready.
When he finished breakfast and was about to head to the garage for his car, Su Miaoke stopped him.
"Forget the car. We’re taking the subway!" Su Miaoke said.
"The subway? But..." Su Jun’s face fell.
"’But’ nothing. Stop wasting time and let’s go." Su Miaoke gave him no chance to argue.
There was a subway station not far from his father-in-law’s villa, so the three of them headed straight there.
Su Jun was extremely reluctant, but there was nothing he could do. He knew he’d get hit if he dared to refuse.
It was the morning rush hour, so the three of them had to squeeze onto a crowded train. They finally made it to the job fair.
By the time they got out of the subway station, Su Jun’s shiny leather shoes had been stepped on countless times and were covered in scuff marks.
"Why did we have to take the subway? Look what happened to my shoes! They’re all creased," Su Jun whined, on the verge of tears.
"Stop complaining. This is what rush hour is like. It’s your own fault for not getting up earlier," Chu Feng said.
Soon, the trio arrived at the job fair. The place was swarming with people, a dense crowd all looking for work.
"Are all these people here looking for work?" Su Jun was stunned.
"Duh. If they’re not here for work, do you think they’re here for a stroll?" Chu Feng rolled his eyes.
"By the way, did you prepare a resume? What did you major in?" Chu Feng asked.
"I have it. I studied Business Administration," Su Jun said.
"Business Administration? You?" Chu Feng glanced at Su Jun and shook his head in resignation.
’Must be nice to be a rich heir. You can pick whatever major in college, since you’ll just go straight to the family company after graduation anyway.’
’For a job in that field, big companies only hire people with advanced degrees from top universities and actual experience.’
’Finding any job here with that major would be a small miracle.’
They made a large loop through the fair, but Su Jun was rejected everywhere. His degree wasn’t good enough, or he wasn’t from a prestigious university—either way, no one wanted to hire him.
"Brother-in-law, I..." Su Jun was at a loss for words, feeling completely crushed.
"See? And you thought you could find a job paying five thousand a month. You might not even find a job at all," Su Miaoke sneered from the side.
"Damn it! I refuse to believe I can’t find a single job!" Su Jun said, still in denial.
"Then keep looking," Chu Feng said with a shrug.
Suddenly, Su Jun found a company.
"Excuse me, are you hiring Business Administration majors?" Su Jun asked, approaching a company’s booth.
"Yes, are you applying?" the person asked.
"Yes! Here’s my resume," Su Jun said happily. ’Finally, a company that fits my major!’
"See? What did I tell you, Brother-in-law, Sis? I said I’d find something," Su Jun said happily to Chu Feng and Su Miaoke after handing over his resume.
"Don’t celebrate too early. It’s not a sure thing they’ll even want you," Su Miaoke said coolly.
"Hmph. A top-tier talent like me is in high demand wherever I go," Su Jun said with a haughty air.
