Chapter 101: Looking for a Job
"The God of Gamblers Competition in three days?" Chu Feng looked confused.
"What? You don’t dare?" Yang Hu said viciously.
"Sure. But that’s only if you’re still alive by then," Chu Feng said.
’In Chu Feng’s eyes, this guy was already a dead man. He’d be lucky to see tomorrow.’
’As for the God of Gamblers Competition, Chu Feng couldn’t care less. It didn’t matter to him whether he went or not.’
After leaving the underground casino, Su Jun’s face was flushed with excitement. He now looked at Chu Feng with eyes full of awe.
"Brother-in-law, I never would’ve guessed! Your gambling skills are incredible!" Su Jun exclaimed excitedly.
"Shut up! Do you have any idea you almost died in there? Are you tired of living?! Last time you nearly fell to your death, and you still haven’t learned your lesson? Starting today, you’re not going anywhere!" Su Miaoke yelled, grabbing Su Jun by the ear and furiously lecturing him.
If it hadn’t been for Chu Feng, Su Jun would have definitely received a much worse beating.
"You really went too far this time. Do you know how worried your sister was? If you dare pull something like this again, I won’t be coming to rescue you," Chu Feng said.
"Sis, Brother-in-law, I was wrong. I just came along with them. I never thought this would happen," Su Jun said, looking aggrieved.
"Get in the car!" Su Miaoke snapped.
After they shoved Su Jun into the car, the parents of the other youths finished scolding their own children and started walking over.
"Thank you so much for your help this time, President Su, Mr. Chu," one of the middle-aged men said respectfully.
"That’s right. If it weren’t for Mr. Chu today, we never would have gotten our children out of there so easily. In the future, if you ever need anything from our Xu Family, please don’t hesitate to ask," a well-dressed woman said gratefully.
"The Xu Family? As in, the Xu Family of Beihai Real Estate?" Su Miaoke was a little surprised.
Beihai Real Estate had several major players, and the Xu Family was one of them. With a market capitalization in the tens of billions, they had deep pockets.
"Yes," the well-dressed woman confirmed with a nod.
"Mr. Chu, hello. I’m the chairman of Beihai’s automotive group. Could I get your contact information? I hope you can find time to visit my company for tea," a man in his late fifties said to Chu Feng.
"You can all just get my wife’s contact information. If you need anything, she can let me know," Chu Feng said.
’He didn’t want to give his contact info to a bunch of strangers. Even though he’d just saved them, it had just been incidental.’
These parents all exchanged contact information with Su Miaoke. After all, they were all major entrepreneurs in Beihai City, the least of whom had a market capitalization in the billions.
After learning a bit more, it turned out that the Su Group actually ranked near the bottom among these people.
"It’s getting late. You should all head home and get some rest. And keep a better eye on your kids," Chu Feng said.
With that, everyone went their separate ways.
Chu Feng drove, while Su Miaoke sat in the back.
The moment they got in the car, Chu Feng heard Su Jun’s pained cries.
"Ow! Sis, stop hitting me! I was wrong!" Su Jun wailed, begging for mercy.
But Su Miaoke wasn’t about to let him off that easily.
Following Su Miaoke’s instructions, Chu Feng drove Su Jun straight home—to his father-in-law, Su Linsheng’s, house.
When Su Linsheng heard what had happened, he flew into a rage.
"You little bastard! How dare you go gambling!" As he spoke, Su Linsheng yanked the belt from his waist and started whipping Su Jun with it.
WHACK!
"Aah! Dad, I was wrong! I’ll never do it again!" Su Jun yelled.
Hearing Su Jun’s tearful pleas for mercy, Su Linsheng couldn’t bring himself to continue and stopped whipping him.
Chu Feng’s mother-in-law watched from the sidelines, her heart aching. She wanted to intervene, but considering what Su Jun had done, she held her tongue.
"This time, you can’t keep spoiling him. Who knows what kind of trouble he’ll get into next? Chu Feng might be able to save him once or twice, but can he save him a third or fourth time? If you don’t rein him in now, you’ll regret it when something terrible happens!" Su Miaoke said.
Although Chu Feng’s mother-in-law doted on Su Jun, she didn’t believe in spoiling him without reason, so she strongly agreed with Su Miaoke.
"Then what do you think we should do to discipline him?" Su Miaoke’s mother asked. She honestly didn’t know what to do.
"From now on, no more allowance. You’ll only get your salary from work—and only if you actually show up. I’m confiscating your car. From now on, you’ll take the subway to work!" Su Miaoke declared.
"No! Sis, this is a death sentence! How am I supposed to live without an allowance? How can I get to work without a car? The subway is packed with people! How can anyone ride that?" Su Jun cried out in despair.
"Allowance? You’re a grown man, how can you have the nerve to ask for an allowance? You have two hands and two feet, don’t you? Earn your own money. How many people your age still ask their family for pocket money? And what’s so bad about the subway? Even our dad takes it sometimes!" Su Miaoke said furiously.
"But... without an allowance, I seriously can’t survive!" Su Jun said.
"Bullshit! Your brother-in-law—do you have any idea how he used to live? Do you know what his salary was? Just three thousand five hundred! He had to cover all his living expenses and still save money to send home! And you? You’re useless!" Su Miaoke raged.
"What if... we give him a little? How about twenty thousand?" Su Miaoke’s mother suggested, her heart softening.
"Twenty thousand? That’s too little! Give me more, Mom! I’m used to the good life! I can’t live like this!" Su Jun pleaded.
"No. Absolutely not. Dad can give you a raise on your salary, but we are not giving him any allowance!" Su Miaoke insisted.
However, Su Jun was still not ready to give up. "Sis, how much would a raise even be? I might as well go be a security guard with Brother-in-law. He makes twenty thousand a month just for watching a gate!"
Hearing this, Chu Feng’s expression flickered. He said, "You do you. Leave me out of it."
"Fine. You want a twenty-thousand-a-month salary? Go be a janitor at the company. Sweep the floors, clean the toilets, scrub the bowls. I’ll even pay you fifty thousand to do it!" Su Miaoke said.
"Sis, you... you’ve gone too far." Su Jun’s face turned green when he heard that.
’He was the young master of the Su Group, for crying out loud. If word got out that he was cleaning toilets, he’d be a laughingstock forever.’
’Forget cleaning toilets, in his entire life, he’d never so much as washed a single dish, let alone his own clothes.’
"Too far? Why don’t you take a good long look at yourself? Someone like you? Forget fifty thousand, no one would hire you for five. Don’t believe me? Go try it! Go out there without using your family name and see who’ll hire you! If you can find anyone at all, I’ll give you a hundred thousand a month in allowance!" Su Miaoke said with a sneer.
"Fine, I’ll try! I’ll go tomorrow! You and Brother-in-law can come with me. I refuse to believe I can’t find a job that pays five thousand a month," Su Jun said defiantly.
