My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

Chapter 61: Sinister Scheme

Su Miaoke was frantic, completely in the dark about her brother’s condition.

"He’s okay," Chu Feng said, catching his breath. "The doctors are working on him now. They’ve managed to stabilize him for the moment."

"Su Jun isn’t dead?" Su Miaoke’s mother exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement the moment she heard Chu Feng.

"That’s right. Mom, Dad, try not to worry. The doctors are working on him now. He should be fine soon," Chu Feng said, trying to console them.

Half an hour later, the doors to the operating room opened.

The chief surgeon let out a long sigh of relief and said to Su Miaoke’s family, "The patient is temporarily out of mortal danger, but his injuries are extremely severe. He’s still in a coma."

"Given his condition, while he’s stable for now, his injuries are grave. He sustained a major blow to the head and has a severe concussion."

Su Linsheng and Su Miaoke’s mother were stunned by the doctor’s words, but they eventually collected themselves.

"Thank you," Su Linsheng managed.

The surgeon didn’t say much else. After a brief word with Professor He, he left.

"Please, God, protect him," Su Miaoke’s mother prayed nearby. "Please let my son make it through this safely. Let him have a smooth and full recovery."

Chu Feng watched the scene unfold, a wave of emotion washing over him.

’What is this life all about? Fame and fortune? Money?’

’But when it comes to life and death, does any of that still matter? No matter your status or identity, everyone is just as powerless in the face of death.’

’Life is so fragile, like the flame of a candle that can be extinguished at any moment.’

This was especially true for Chu Feng. After receiving the God of Wealth’s inheritance, his perspective on the human cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death had completely changed.

As the nurses transferred Su Jun to the intensive care unit, Su Miaoke’s mother’s eyes were brimming with tears, already red and swollen from crying.

Her only son had been in such a terrible accident, nearly taken from her forever. What parent wouldn’t be worried sick?

"What are you crying for? Is crying going to help now?" Su Linsheng snapped when he saw his wife in such a state.

"Our son is in this state, and I’m not even allowed to cry? He’s your flesh and blood too!" Su Miaoke’s mother shot back, becoming hysterical.

And just like that, the two of them began to argue.

"This is the intensive care unit. If you’re going to argue, take it outside. Don’t disturb the patients," the head nurse, who had just entered, said sternly upon seeing them fight.

Only then did Su Linsheng and Su Miaoke’s mother stop their bickering.

At that moment, Su Miaoke pulled Chu Feng out into the hallway.

"What’s wrong?" Chu Feng asked, unsure why Su Miaoke had pulled him aside.

"You did something for my brother, didn’t you?" Su Miaoke asked, looking straight into Chu Feng’s eyes.

Chu Feng had no intention of denying it.

"Yes," Chu Feng nodded.

Upon hearing his answer, Su Miaoke threw herself into Chu Feng’s arms, hugging him tightly. "Thank you, Chu Feng," she said.

Chu Feng smiled faintly. "We’re husband and wife. There’s no need for thank yous between us."

"He’s my only brother," Su Miaoke said. "My parents have doted on him since he was a child. If anything happened to him, I don’t think they could handle the shock."

Su Jun was the one who would carry on the Su Family name; nothing could be allowed to happen to him.

"It’s alright. Su Jun is my brother-in-law too," Chu Feng said, stroking Su Miaoke’s hair.

"So when will my brother wake up? And what about the concussion the doctor mentioned? What do we do?" Su Miaoke asked, her worry returning.

"As long as I’m here, you don’t have to worry," Chu Feng said with confidence. "If I could pull him back from death’s door, everything else is just a minor issue."

Shortly after they finished speaking, Su Linsheng and Su Miaoke’s mother came out.

They had both regained their composure.

"Xiao Feng, Miaoke, you two should go home and get some rest," Su Linsheng said to Chu Feng politely. "We’ll stay here and watch over Su Jun. We’ve troubled you, Xiao Feng."

He understood that Chu Feng must have played a significant role in Su Jun’s miraculous recovery.

"Xiao Feng, you should hurry back to your parents," said Su Miaoke’s mother. "Once Su Jun is doing better, bring them over. I’ll cook a meal myself, and our families can eat together."

"Okay. Mom, Dad, please don’t worry too much. Su Jun will be alright," Chu Feng said with a nod.

After Chu Feng and Su Miaoke left, Su Linsheng mulled over his son’s accident. The more he thought about it, the more something felt wrong.

First his own car accident, and now his son’s—he felt there was definitely something suspicious going on.

’There’s something strange about this,’ Su Linsheng fumed. ’I need to get to the bottom of it. If someone really orchestrated this, I’ll kill them!’ He then pulled out his phone and made a call to have someone investigate.

Chu Feng and Su Miaoke left the municipal hospital and returned to Bright Moon Mountain Villa.

It was already very late, but Chu Feng’s parents were still up, waiting for them in the living room.

"Miaoke, how is he?" Chu Yuntian asked.

"He’s alive," said Su Miaoke. "But he’s still in the ICU. We don’t know when he’ll wake up."

"Miaoke, Xiao Feng, come have some noodles. You must be hungry, it’s so late," Chu Feng’s mother said, walking over with two bowls of noodles.

"Mom, why are you still up? You shouldn’t have stayed up so late to make us noodles," Su Miaoke said, touched.

"Sigh, how could your father and I possibly sleep with something like this going on?" said Chu Feng’s mother. "As long as he’s alive, that’s what matters. Now, hurry and eat while it’s hot. Everything in the big city is so convenient. Cooking noodles is much faster here than back in the countryside."

Then, Su Miaoke and Chu Feng began to eat.

While Chu Feng and Su Miaoke were eating, elsewhere...

Inside what was once Hu Long’s villa, Tang Mu sat on the sofa, one leg crossed over the other, smoking a cigar.

"How’d it go?" Tang Mu asked, taking a drag from his cigar.

"Young Master Tang, rest assured, there’s no way that kid survived," one of several young men standing beside Tang Mu said with a fawning smile. "We sent his car flying dozens of meters. Even if he did live, he’s a vegetable at best."

"Good. Hu Qian, you did well," Tang Mu sneered, his smile turning vicious. "If that kid dies, you’ll be handsomely rewarded! Last time, those bastards from the Zhao Family got lucky and escaped with their lives. I refuse to believe Su Miaoke’s brother will be so fortunate!"

He had long ago investigated the identities of Su Miaoke, Chu Feng, and their circle. He knew that Su Jun was Su Miaoke’s brother and Chu Feng’s brother-in-law.

If Tang Chuxia hadn’t ordered them not to touch Chu Feng, Su Miaoke, or anyone from the Zhao Family, Tang Mu would never have thought to target Su Jun and go after the people closest to Chu Feng.
