Chapter 59: Car Accident
"Back then, I was doing quite well for myself in Beihai City," Chu Yuntian said. "The Chu Family was also a major power in the city at the time. For some reason, they got into a conflict with another faction, and I ended up getting dragged into it. Hu Long insisted I was connected to the Chu Family, and in the end, he broke my legs."
"Didn’t they even investigate?" Chu Feng’s anger flared as he heard this.
"Investigate?" Chu Yuntian said with a sigh. "Back then, once you were accused, nobody cared if you were framed or not. I was lucky to be alive. Many others were wrongly accused and beaten to death."
Recalling the events of the past, a wave of sorrow and melancholy washed over him.
’Then that matches what Zhao Qinghan said,’ Chu Feng murmured to himself.
"I think I know who the other faction fighting the Chu Family was," Chu Feng said. "The Qing Gang!"
"Hmm? How do you know? Have you been in contact with people from the Chu Family?" Chu Yuntian asked in surprise.
"Dad, I don’t know anyone from the Chu Family. It was Zhao Quan, the guy from dinner just now. He and his friends are from the Northern Zhao Family. They’re the ones who told me," Chu Feng said.
"The Northern Zhao Family?" Chu Yuntian asked.
"Yeah. They came to Beihai for a visit. People from these Martial Arts Families are incredible. One of them can take on several opponents," Chu Feng said.
"Don’t be envious. I know what you’re thinking. You just want to practice martial arts, don’t you? I brought the secret manual your grandfather left behind. Whether you can master it or not will be up to fate," Chu Yuntian said.
"Dad, why don’t you give it a try too?" Chu Feng said.
"No way. Your old man is just a bag of old bones. What’s the point of practicing now? I’d probably just train until my bones fall apart," Chu Yuntian said, shaking his head with a sigh.
"Dad, you’re only fifty. You call that old?" Chu Feng was a bit speechless.
"At fifty, you know your fate. I know my own body. If I were twenty years younger, maybe. If I had let you start training when you were a child, you’d probably be quite accomplished by now. It’s a shame your grandfather strictly forbade it back then," Chu Yuntian said, sighing again.
"Why? Aren’t Martial Arts meant to be practiced?" Chu Feng asked, confused.
"To be honest, I was just as curious as you are back then. But your grandfather never told me directly. I only found out a little by asking around indirectly. This manual was most likely stolen from the Chu Family by your grandfather. If you were to practice it and someone found out, there would be big trouble!" Chu Yuntian said.
"What’s there to be afraid of? The Chu Family was already wiped out. They’ve completely disappeared now," Chu Feng said.
"That may be so, but what if you run into one of them? No matter what, you need to be careful if you ever meet anyone from the Chu Family," Chu Yuntian said.
"Got it," Chu Feng nodded.
"Help me set up a meeting for tomorrow. I want to see Miaoke’s father," Chu Yuntian said.
"How about now? It’s not too late. He’s probably just finishing up his work," Chu Feng said.
"That works too. Back when I opened the World Trade Mall, he was always very polite to me. After all, I was the one who decided whether his family’s products could be sold in the mall," Chu Yuntian said with a faint smile.
Ever since his legs had healed, he often found himself reminiscing about the old days, and his overall mood was noticeably better than before.
"Dad, why don’t you get some rest first? It’s windy on the roof," Su Miaoke said as she walked over.
"I’m fine. When is your father arriving?" Chu Yuntian asked.
"They’ll probably be a while longer. Dad, you should go rest first. I’ll call and hurry them along. I’ll come get you when they arrive," Su Miaoke said.
Chu Yuntian didn’t say anything to this, simply nodding.
After all, the two of them had been in the car for so long. The long journey had indeed left them a bit tired.
Two hours later, the sky gradually darkened.
Just then, Su Linsheng drove up and arrived downstairs.
"Dad, Mom, you’re here," Chu Feng said upon seeing Su Linsheng and Su Miaoke’s mother.
His father-in-law and mother-in-law had rushed over immediately.
"Yes. Where’s your father? Where is he?" Su Linsheng asked.
"He’s resting in a room on the first floor," Chu Feng said.
"It’s been over twenty years. I wonder if Brother Chu has changed," Su Linsheng said happily as he walked toward the room on the first floor.
The moment they saw each other, both men were incredibly moved. They gripped each other’s hands tightly, tears streaming down their faces.
It was as if two long-lost brothers had been reunited after many years.
It seemed they had an endless supply of things to talk about, chatting for hours on end, from the time they first met to when they worked together.
As evening fell, Chu Feng and Su Miaoke finished preparing dinner.
The family had dinner together on the rooftop terrace.
"Ah, Brother Chu, over twenty years ago, Beihai was just a small place. Now, two decades later, look how much it’s changed! Skyscrapers, bustling traffic... it’s like the difference between heaven and earth," Su Linsheng said, gesturing toward the Beihai City-scape under the night sky.
"It’s true. Everything has changed so fast. And you, Brother Su, are now the boss of a corporation worth a billion," Chu Yuntian said with a laugh.
"Ah, you’re too kind, Brother Chu. What I’ve achieved is nothing. I’m just a small fry in Beihai City. If you had stayed in Beihai back then, Brother Chu, you’d definitely be a titan of the North by now!" Su Linsheng said.
The two men talked cheerfully, constantly toasting and refilling each other’s glasses.
"A true hero doesn’t boast about past glories. If I hadn’t been so lucky back then, I probably wouldn’t be alive today," Chu Yuntian said with a bitter smile.
As the family was enjoying a happy meal, drinking and chatting together, Su Linsheng’s phone rang.
A frantic voice came from the other end of the line: "Hello, is this Su Linsheng, Su Jun’s father?"
"This is he. Who’s calling?" Su Linsheng frowned, a sense of foreboding washing over him.
"This is Beihai City First Hospital. Your son was in a car accident and is here at our hospital. He’s in critical condition. We need a family member to come over and sign the paperwork immediately."
"What!" Su Linsheng cried out when he heard the news.
In that instant, his vision went black, and he felt like he was about to faint.
This was his only son, his one and only child.
His son was only twenty years old. He had doted on him since he was a child, treating him like a precious treasure—afraid he might break if held, or melt if kept in the mouth.
How could Su Linsheng possibly bear the news that his son had been in a car accident?
"Old Su, what’s wrong?" Chu Yuntian asked anxiously.
Chu Feng, Su Miaoke, Chu Yuntian, and Su Miaoke’s mother all wore looks of concern.
"It’s... it’s Su Jun. Something happened to him," Su Linsheng stammered as he hurried downstairs.
"What?" Everyone was stunned by the news.
