My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

Chapter 47: Surviving the Disaster

The yacht they were on was not very large. Tossed on the vast ocean like a fallen leaf, it seemed a single strong gust of wind could capsize it.

The scene was like the coming of the apocalypse.

They could see a mass of dark clouds in the distance, shot through with lightning, rapidly approaching their position.

It wouldn’t be long before it arrived.

"Have you called for backup?" Chu Feng pressed the captain.

"I have, but it will take at least an hour for support to get here!" the captain said, his face grim.

"Is this a sea storm? It looks terrifying. Is our boat going to capsize?" Zhao Quan asked, his eyes wide with shock.

Before long, the rain began to fall.

Everyone began to grow uneasy. The chances of survival were extremely low when encountering such conditions at sea.

Fierce winds and huge waves swept in, and the entire yacht rocked violently, looking as if it could capsize at any moment.

"Everyone, put on your life jackets." Chu Feng grabbed the life jackets and handed them to Zhao Qinghan and the others.

"How far is the nearest island?" Chu Feng asked the captain.

"Nearly a hundred nautical miles!" the captain said in despair.

Hearing this distance, Chu Feng felt his head spin.

That was almost two hundred kilometers. A distance so great, they couldn’t possibly swim it, even in calm seas.

"Damn it! What’s the difference between this and suicide?" Chu Feng cursed.

Zhao Qinghan and the others put on their life jackets as quickly as possible. With these, they might have a chance of survival if they fell into the sea.

In reality, a life jacket was practically useless in a sea storm like this.

But in this situation, they had no other choice. Wearing one still offered a sliver of a chance at survival.

"Brother Chu, are we going to die?" Zhao Quan asked, his voice trembling.

"You have to do exactly as I say," Chu Feng said gravely.

Zhao Qinghan and the others nodded vigorously.

Then, Chu Feng found a rope and tied them all together.

"Remember, no matter what happens, do not let go of this rope. Our lives depend on it," Chu Feng said.

"Okay," the group replied, nodding frantically.

Chu Feng found a Compass on the boat, then nervously watched the giant waves around them.

BOOM—

Suddenly, a massive wave crashed down, threatening to capsize the entire yacht.

"Jump!"

Chu Feng yelled, signaling for everyone to jump into the sea.

The sea was a raging torrent, with waves piling on top of one another, relentlessly surging forward.

As they hit the water, a torrent of seawater rushed over them.

The rope connecting everyone was tied to Chu Feng.

But now the rope felt incredibly heavy. The moment Chu Feng hit the water, he felt himself being dragged deep into the sea.

Fortunately, however, Chu Feng was now a Late-stage Qi Cultivation Realm Cultivator. He held his breath and swam forcefully toward the surface.

Before long, Chu Feng broke the surface and pulled Zhao Qinghan and the others up with him.

They had all swallowed a lot of seawater and were choking badly.

"Is everyone okay?" Chu Feng asked.

"I’m okay!"

"I’m okay, too."

"We’re all okay!"

Soon, all the members of the Zhao Family had responded.

After all, these members of the Zhao Family came from a Martial Arts Clan; choking on a bit of water wasn’t a serious issue for them.

"Follow me!" Chu Feng shouted. He glanced at the Compass in his hand and started swimming in a specific direction.

The waves were massive, and Chu Feng felt like he was making no progress. But he had no choice. He had to expend all his energy just to control his body and keep the waves from slamming him back underwater.

The group floated in the seawater for who knows how long, until suddenly, something appeared in Chu Feng’s line of sight.

It was a life raft!

’It must be from the yacht!’ Chu Feng thought, growing excited. The massive wave had come so suddenly that he hadn’t had time to grab the life raft from the yacht.

Now, with the life raft right in front of him, Chu Feng mustered all his strength and swam forward.

Ten-odd minutes later, Chu Feng reached the life raft. The wind and waves at sea had also begun to subside.

Aided by the life raft, the group could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

"It’s a good thing this raft is big enough. Otherwise, some of us would still be stuck in the water," Chu Feng said.

Chu Feng checked the Compass and pointed in one direction. "Paddle that way!"

Quickly, everyone on the life raft began using their hands as paddles, heading in the direction Chu Feng had indicated.

An unknown number of hours passed. It was pitch-black all around, and not a single star could be seen in the sky.

"Brother Chu, how much longer until we reach shore?" Zhao Quan asked wearily.

"Soon. Just hang in there," Chu Feng said.

But in reality, he had no idea how much longer it would be.

"Brother Chu, do you think... do you think we’re all going to die out here and become fish food?" Zhao Quan asked again.

"No. There are too many of us to die so easily. You have to believe we can get through this," Chu Feng said.

"Brother Chu, are there lots of sharks in the sea? Will they bite a hole in the life raft?" Zhao Quan asked again, full of fear and worry.

"They won’t. As long as no blood drips into the water, a shark has no reason to randomly attack a life raft," Chu Feng said patiently.

"Alright, that’s enough talk. Save your energy and get some rest. We’ll see what things look like in the morning. Maybe the rescue team is already out looking for us," Chu Feng said.

Just then, Zhao Qinghan suddenly asked, "Where’s the captain?"

Her question instantly drew curious glances from the other members of the Zhao Family.

"That’s right, where is the captain? We haven’t seen him, have we? I don’t think I’ve seen him since we went overboard!"

"Yeah, if Sister Qinghan hadn’t mentioned it, I would’ve completely forgotten about the captain. You don’t think that guy drowned, do you?"

Chu Feng remained silent in the face of their speculation.

He closed his eyes and began to replay the events in his mind.

’How could a perfectly good yacht suddenly fail to start? Do engines really break that easily?’

’This yacht was worth tens of millions. Yachts like this are inspected after every trip, and before they go out, to prevent any issues.’

’On top of that, the captain had said he’d checked the weather and that there wouldn’t be any problems today.’

’But as luck would have it, the moment they headed for the open sea, they ran right into a storm.’

This string of coincidences couldn’t help but make Chu Feng suspicious.

"Let’s not worry about him for now. We can talk about it once we make it back alive," Chu Feng said, interrupting their discussion.

After that, everyone lay down on the life raft and tried to rest.

An unknown amount of time passed before a dazzling light woke Chu Feng.

Day had broken.

The storm had subsided. The surrounding sea was calm, and the sky was a pristine, cloudless blue.

But all around them was an endless expanse of ocean, with nothing in sight.

"I’m so hungry... and thirsty," Zhao Quan said weakly. After the ordeal of the past ten-plus hours, anything in their stomachs had long since been used up.
