Chapter 124: Jerky Prince Cinderella

Noah’s POV

Fuck...I mean, ouch.

I think living a non-alcoholic life is the best option for me. What do you mean I only cried myself to sleep, and yet I’m waking up with a headache that feels like a hangover?

My eyes are dry and feel sandy as I force them open.

There’s no sunlight streaming into the room, so it must be night. I sit up and rub my fist against my eyes with a sigh.

"Goddess..." I whisper groggily.

My throat is also dry. I feel so disoriented, and completely out of the loop with everything around me.

Where is Elias?

I look around slowly and realize something. Wait...my room looks completely different from when we came in.

The half-filled cup of water is gone, my laundry basket is properly arranged, and my cassette player is now sitting on the vanity.

Who arranged my room and why does it look like I just stepped into a pink version of Elias’s well-arranged room?

The noise of running water from my bathroom grabs my attention and I get out of the bed. It might be my new found obsession with sharing a bathroom with Elias speaking, but I’m very curious to know what’s happening.

I open the bathroom door and I’m immediately hit with the strong smell of antiseptics and cleaning agents as I stick my head in.

Elias is...cleaning.

I blink twice at the sight of the alpha cleaning my bathroom floor surrounded by cleaning things. He is wearing a nose mask, gloves, and an apron. He looks very angry as he scrubs the floor with all of his energy.

"Uh...what are you doing?" I ask loudly and he looks up.

"What everyone else refused to do" he says with a snappy tone, returning his attention to the floor. I glance back at the digital clock on the wall.

"It’s eleven p.m. you should be sleeping, Elias" I point out, wrinkling my nose at the harsh smell of chemical.

The alpha ignores me and continues to scrub.

He reminds me of a modern-era Cinderella; except it’s the prince who cleans and he’s the one who orders princess Cinderella to be found.

It doesn’t make sense. I don’t usually make sense after naps.

"Go back to sleep Noah. The chemical mix is too strong" he says and I frown at him.

"It looks like you murdered someone and you’re cleaning up. Wait...did you kill my mother?" I ask in fear and the alpha looks up again.

"Which one?"

Wow.

Wow.

Just wow.

I slept for a few hours and I forgot what kind of jerk this man is. I also forgot about the reason I cried myself to sleep. I apparently have two mothers; a fake one who bears my surname and a real one who was my wetnurse.

I thought I was stressed out before, but it’s worse now.

I groan as my head throbs. Elias looks up at the pained noise, brow creasing in concern. "Are you okay? Are you hurting?" he asks and I nod.

"It’s just headache, nothing serious" I say and he sighs.

"I’ll join you in room soon" he says gently and I stare at him longer. I don’t want to walk out and be without him in this house.

"Noah, go sit" he says in a firmer voice and I nod, leaving him alone in the bathroom.

I can’t believe Elias Deus, the big brain of the Deus family, is cleaning my bathroom. He also arranged my bedroom for me. I must have died and I’m now in heaven.

I flop down on my seat in front of my computer. I fire it up and immediately open the browser to type an important question: Can you die from crying?

My eyes trace the responses one by one and they all say no.

Then I’m alive?

I look suspiciously at the door and Elias steps out of it without the cleaning tools. I watch through the computer screen as the alpha sits on the edge of my bed. He keeps his eyes on me without saying a word and I click off the computer.

Even through the screen of a device, his eyes are compelling. I turn around in the chair to look at him.

"How do you feel?" he asks and I shrug.

"Less overwhelmed."

"Are you shutting your feelings out?" he asks and I shrug again.

"Maybe, doesn’t matter. I’m home in Winslow so..." I trail off deliberately.

How I feel doesn’t matter. I’m used to having people lurking and monitoring me. I could slip up once and end up repeating a class with Freya and other priestesses.

"You cried too much earlier" Elias says and pulls out that cursed pocket watch, "you cried for fifty-six minutes straight" he informs me and I put my legs up on the chair.

"Well you don’t have a mom who was by your side as a wetnurse and a servant for twenty-three years" I say and he keeps looking at me blankly.

"And you also don’t have feelings, so you can’t relate" I say just to spite him and get a reaction out of him.

"You don’t know half of what I can relate to, Angel. Don’t make assumptions" Elias says icily and I nod.

Fine. No poking and prodding Elias. I wish Lucas was here.

"My head is quiet...I don’t know what to think" I say.

"Simple. Your father is a liar who needs to die. Your mother Goldsmith is a snake. And Conan is suspicious"

"You can’t just chalk everyone up to be criminals" I tell him, throwing my head back and staring at my ceiling.

"Why not?" he asks.

"Conan shared his story with us. He suffered a lot and...no one deserves that" I say quietly.

"One sob story and you believe him, Noah? How naive are you?" Elias asks with soft laughter and I get out of the seat.

I hate talking with him these days. We just go in circles. We argue and argue and it ends.

"So what do we do now?" I ask, folding my arms across my chest and squaring my shoulders.

"Tomorrow evening we ask more questions" Elias says.

"What are you going to do all morning and noon?"

"You’ll show me all the secret things you like" he says and the nervous pattering of my heart slows down.

Oh.
