Chapter 5: Marriage...hunt?
Noah’s POV
No electrical beeping wakes me up this time around.
Instead, I turn to my side and I open my eyes to find Elias sitting in another chair positioned on the side of the bed.
He’s leaning back in the seat without blinking and looking at me like a scientist would look at a test subject.
I blink twice hoping it would make him or the headache splitting my head in two to go away. I swallow and let my eyes wander to the clock behind him.
The numbers are red and bright but I squint to read the time.
Six a.m.
Why is he looking at me like an organism under a microscope at such early hours in the morning? Did he even sleep?
"What are you doing?" I ask in a breathless tone, pushing myself up with my arms and he keeps watching me.
"I..."
My words end when the door opens and two women walk in with their heads down. Elias doesn’t stop looking at me while my eyes follow them.
He terrifies me.
He feels like death is casually sitting at my door. It’s not taking me; it’s just owning me with dark eyes and an emotionless face.
’Home’ my omega whimpers and my eyes flood with tears.
I hate myself for it.
I want to be like Zane, I want to be loud and bold, I want to kick him in the stomach and take back what’s left of my city...but I can still feel the weight of the doctor’s dead body on me.
A shudder rocks my body as I swallow back my sobs and Elias’s cold and calculating eyes drop to my lips.
"Cry if you want" he says.
"W-what?"
"There will be no crying when the priest seals our marriage" he says and I completely stop moving, staring at him like the mad man that he is.
"What-- marriage?" I ask, finding the strength to sit up and look at the women in the room.
They are keeping their heads down. They’re here but my predicament is none of their business. They don’t care that I am a kidnapped omega.
"Elias, I beg you" I whisper.
He holds up a document.
"My people are big on celebration. We complete it by tomorrow, but by eight today, we sign the agreement"
"Over my dead body!" I shout, pushing him and the paper away as I jump out of the bed.
He doesn’t stop me as I run down the halls.
My feet are bare and the terrazzo floor is cold. The hall is too lively for dawn, but no one stops me as I run down.
I don’t know where I am going to but I run and run.
The clothes on my body slips off my shoulder at some point but survival is more important.
My heart is thundering in my chest; the organ is pounding too hard and too fast to be normal.
’Goddess, please. I’ve worshipped you all my life, don’t let these people take my life from me’.
My body slams into a solid body and I look up to find the wild brown eyes of Damien Deus smiling down at me.
’RUN!’ my omega screams desperately as I fall on my ass, scrambling off the floor and taking the opposite direction.
"Wow, a hunt in the morning? Isn’t that pleasant" the alpha’s voice booms and I keep running.
I might have attempted ending my own life, but falling into Damien’s hand will be the most unfortunate thing in the world.
He strips, humiliates, dehumanizes and then finishes his prey.
Breathing is getting harder as I keep running.
Somehow, I run into a room and slam the door shut, blocking the door with my back as I lean against it.
My whole body is vibrating with adrenaline, fear and hate.
Why isn’t the moon goddess doing anything for me? I have been a good moon child. I prayed when my friends went on dates. I went to do charity while my friends rather used Instagram.
"Are you done?" a soft voice says and my head snaps up.
As my eyes meet his, I know that I can never escape. This is my own hell...why an angel would end up in hell is beyond me.
The tears that I held back finally slides down my cheek.
"You think you can run?" the young boy says, he’s writing in a book and he looks up at me with blue eyes.
It’s Kai. The youngest Deus. The nineteen years old prodigy.
His white hair falls over his forehead and he looks like he just woke up.
"Your city ran when we tore it apart" he says as if he’s talking about something as simple as the weather.
"We wanted to run it to the ground, but your government is a smart one" he murmurs, frowning as he takes his pen off the book.
"Help me get out...I will be quiet I swear" I say, pressing my palms together as I cry.
"It would be against the law of marriage to do that" he says, tilting his head and sighing tiredly.
"I-I’m not married" I whisper.
I can already hear the footsteps coming for me, I can already smell death and war coming for me while I’m stuck with famine.
"Your father declares you married" he says.
"NO! that’s not possible" I break into tears and he sighs again like I’m a bother. He has what I need to know but like famine, he’s not giving it to me.
"Why do you think we didn’t wipe out the whole city like we did to H.O.B?" he asks.
No!
"Their governor offered and we took" Kai Deus says, giving me just a tiny taste of what I am hungry to know.
"Your people are half alive and still in our hands. Noah, the sooner you accept, the better" he says and my body slums against the wall.
I’ve been a good moon child...my father would never do this to me.
