Chapter 3: Oh my goddess...

Noah’s POV

A steady beeping noise wakes me up this time around.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

I move my hand, ready to get up and find something useful to do. And that one act brings back a rush of memories with a myriad of pain.

I remember the press of my body against my city’s enemy’s body.

I remember the flat look in his black brown eyes as he says ’you’re mine’.

I remember the way his blood slowly spreads out from under his head as a result of the fall.

"Oh my..." I whimper in pain.

The middle son of Deus family must be dead now because of me, I don’t know if I should laugh or cry.

"Check him" Elias Deus’s voice drawls and my eyes pop open.

He’s here?!

My throat closes up at the unfamiliar scents around me. And when I try to sit up I realize that beeping machine is attached to my body.

I’m no longer home in Winslow. This is not my family’s mansion. Where am I?

"You’ll do yourself good if you calm down, Goldsmith" Elias says and I find him despite how dim the light in the room is.

The man is sitting on a comfortable one-seater at the foot of the bed.

His legs are crossed; he has a hard cover book opened on his lap. He’s wearing a different suit and there is a bandage wrapped around his head.

"What..." I stare at him with horror and disbelief.

The height I jump for is good enough to kill...how is he still here, sitting and reading while I’m in the bed and wrapped up in more bandages than he is?

"How...how are you..." I stutter, not sure what to say or what to ask.

"Check him" Elias repeats and a man comes out of the shadows in white doctor’s coat and a stethoscope around his neck.

I follow the new man with my eyes till he stops by my bed; his hands are shaking and his posture looks like a prisoner’s.

What is going on here?

"I watched you for thirty-five hours. You didn’t wake up so he’s here to check on you" Elias says.

"Don’t touch me" I hiss at the man and he looks at Elias without responding to me.

"He’s from Winslow, I knew you wouldn’t let anyone else touch you" Elias says as if he’s talking to himself, flipping the page of his book.

"I don’t want to be here" I growl pathetically and he doesn’t look up.

"Possessions don’t choose where to be, beautiful" he says and my heart stutters in my chest.

Possessions?

"I’m a person and I have a choice. We’re going home" I speak for myself and the doctor.

"Sir...please..." the doctor says to me, pressing his palms together as he says those words and I turn my attention to the quiet man sitting in the room.

To anyone else, Elias is just a normal man reading a book...but the more I stare at him and the book in his hand, the more I realize it’s my city’s manual.

"We are getting out of here" I say and Elias’s jaw tick.

"Time only gives you the room to do a few foolish things. Beautiful. There are actions and there are consequences" he says, voice falling even more quiet with each word he says.

"My daughter...they have my daughter here too" the doctor confesses and my body drops back into the bed.

Of course they have his daughter. They have my parents. They have the whole city...and they have my best friend, Zane.

"Why are you doing this?" I ask, blue eyes filling again with tears.

Goddess, I feel embarrassed and weak. How many times have I cried since the ’Gods’ raided my home?

"Why are you fighting against your life?" Elias asks still without looking up.

"Maybe it’s because I’m sick of you and your family! My city never did anything to you people" I shout and the machine’s beep worsens.

My chest is rising and falling with the hectic breaths I’m drawing in and letting out.

"My city...we are good people! We love nature and my dad built everything from scratch" I start to sob in frustration.

The doctor looks like he’s also on the verge of tears, begging me to stop talking with his eyes, but I can’t stop, this is unfair!

"We are the reason agriculture still thrives in this godforsaken technology ridden world!" the words keep coming.

"We sent help to the Danforths states after your beastly family destroyed their lives. We gave them food, shelter and everything"

"Please...Noah" the doctor pleads.

I don’t know how to fight or argue, but I know how to beg. Anyone with an ounce of humanity in them will listen to me.

"So please, why? Why are you doing this to us? Goldsmith is the symbol of peace and serenity in Winslow" I stop talking and air rush back into my lungs as I pant for air.

I keep looking at Elias while ignoring the wild beeps of the machine.

The only noise in the room after my outburst is the machine, my panting and the noise from outside

Snot and tears stream down my face ungracefully, but I don’t care, I don’t care as long as I get to go home.

Elias doesn’t give any response.

Instead, he pulls out a pocket watch and clicks it.

"One minute, thirty two seconds" he says and my brows draw together in a confused frown.

"W-what?" I ask, putting my hand over my chest.

"Your outburst to save your...good city is one minute and thirty seconds" the man gets out of his seat.

He is not taller than Damien Deus, but my goddess, the way he carries himself is enough to send me into a cardiac arrest.

"You think you are some glorious hero, beautiful?" he asks and I clench my teeth to assume a kind of brave expression.

"And you think you’re the persona of death, don’t you?" I ask and his lips curve into a small smile.

"I don’t think I am death...things just die when I touch them" he says, moving closer to the doctor.

"Then let me die" I whisper.

If he won’t let me go, then he should let me die with my city.

"I told you. you only die when I say so" he says and places his hand on the doctor’s shoulder.

"But him...he dies now"

And without breaking a sweat or making a noise Elias Deus twists the doctors neck, letting him drop to the bed like a rag doll.

"I’ll say it till you understand it" he leans into me and clouds my senses with his scent.

My body is frozen with pure terror at the dead man that has fallen on my body.

Oh my goddess. Oh my goddess. Oh my goddess.

"You are mine to possess. We will do this again and again and again till I have gone through the seventy-four doctors in my vault."

"Oh my goddess" I whisper. Too stunned to react, too stunned to speak.

There is a dead man on me.

"Now be a good omega, and be taken care of" he says, straightening and returning to the chair.

"Bring in another doctor. I’d hate for you to faint a third time...I really hate defective things" he says loudly as he picks up his book again.

Oh my goddess...
