Chapter 8: Eye of the Tempest
Liora stood motionless at the center of the clearing, her staff held high. The light breeze from moments earlier had escalated into a steady howl. Elias watched, heart pounding, as the elven mage poured her vast reserves into the spell. Ten long seconds ticked by — each one feeling like an eternity.
Elias thought to himself:" this power this spell isn't ordinary, my heart is pounding out of my chest,I can feel it the power is rising,is this what a rare class spell feels like "
Mana surged visibly around her. The air grew thick and heavy, charged with raw power. Her silver hair whipped violently as winds spiraled outward from her position. Leaves and loose debris lifted from the forest floor, spinning faster and faster. Dark clouds boiled into existence overhead, blotting out the morning sun and casting the forbidden woods into an unnatural twilight.
Elias: "this power, what is this a storm, it's gotta be some kind of storm right, yeah that's what it's gotta be a fusion of water and wind magic on such a scale, this should be worth my full attention"
Then a powerful hurricane awakened.
A deafening roar erupted as the full force of the Rare-class spell manifested. A monstrous vortex of wind and water exploded into being, centered perfectly on Liora’s location. But within the storm’s eye — a calm circle roughly twenty meters across — the world remained eerily serene. The air was still, almost peaceful. Soft golden shafts of sunlight broke through the spinning clouds above, illuminating the small sanctuary where Elias and Liora stood. Looking up between the swirling walls, Elias could see the terrifying contrast: a perfect cylinder of calm surrounded by a nightmarish maelstrom of destruction. The walls of the eye rose like living walls of cloud and rain, rotating with terrifying speed.
Elias couldn't help but marvel at the ability he was witnessing.
Outside that fragile bubble of peace, hell had been unleashed.
The hurricane was overwhelming — a Category 5 force amplified to monstrous proportions by Liora’s mastery. Winds exceeding anything natural tore through the ancient forest. Massive trees, some hundreds of years old, were uprooted like twigs and hurled through the air. Trunks snapped with explosive cracks that echoed like thunder. Branches and leaves were shredded into green confetti, swirling in the violent currents. Torrential rain lashed sideways, mixed with debris that acted like shrapnel.
Elias’s eyes widened in awe and terror as he watched monsters flee in panic from deeper in the woods. A pack of wolf-like beasts with spiked fur burst from the undergrowth, only to be caught by the outer winds. They were lifted screaming into the vortex, bodies tumbling helplessly before being slammed against trees or torn apart by the sheer force. Larger creatures — hulking bear-like monsters and scaled reptilian predators — fared no better. One massive beast tried to burrow, but the ground itself was being scoured away. The storm consumed everything in a growing radius of absolute demolition.
This… this is real power, Elias thought, a mix of exhilaration and deep inadequacy swirling inside him. One spell. Just one spell and the entire forest is being erased. I’ve been training for years and I still feel so small. If I had this kind of strength in my old life… no. Don’t think about that. This is my chance. I have to reach this level. I can’t stay average. Not here. Not with a family that actually believes in me. I have to learn this spell at any freaking cost.
The destruction spread outward in a perfect circle. Within moments, a full three hundred meter radius around them had been completely devastated. Trees were flattened or reduced to splinters. The ground was churned into a muddy wasteland. What had been dense, ancient woodland now resembled a battlefield after divine wrath. Even with her ornate staff amplifying her mana and reducing consumption, Liora was panting heavily by the time the spell began to wane. Sweat glistened on her forehead, and her shoulders heaved with exhaustion. Her vast reserves, far above average even for an elf, had been pushed to their limits.
The winds gradually died. The clouds unraveled. Sunlight returned to reveal a scene of total annihilation. The once-beautiful forest was gone — replaced by a scarred, barren circle of destruction.
Liora lowered her staff, breathing hard. “That,” she said, voice slightly hoarse, “is my most powerful spell. Hurricane’s Embrace. A fusion of wind and water I created and refined over decades. No one else knows it.”
She turned to Elias, violet eyes still sharp despite her fatigue. “Can you replicate it?”
Elias stared at the devastated landscape, heart racing with ambition and fear. He nodded firmly. “Yes. I want to try.”
He stepped forward, closing his eyes and concentrating intensely. The visualization came easily after years of training — gather water mana then wind mana compress it around a point and let it roll I've got to get it right. the swirling winds, the crushing pressure, the fusion of elements. But a stronger desire rose within him. Not just a copy. I want my own original spell. Something truly mine.
An idea flickered at the edge of his mind: wait a moment what if I slow water molecules to create ice, freezing the storm into something even more destructive. But he immediately pushed the thought aside. Not now. Master this first. Perfect it. Then… maybe later.
Elias breathed deeply, mana already gathering around him as he prepared to attempt the Rare-class spell for the first time.
"Alright now it's time for me to do this,I can do this,I must pull this off,I need to have something going for me in this life so I have to get it,I can't fail."
