Chapter 36 – Who’s the Pervert Here
There was also one hidden point.
Because Rowan was useless in that area, his mind had twisted long ago. Somewhere in that twisted place, he had developed a special addiction.
Every time he saw his wife getting close to another man, he became abnormally excited.
After installing everything, Rowan cleaned away the traces in the house and drove off.
In truth, these days Rowan had never gone out of town on business.
Aside from the occasional visit to his grandfather, he had been living in the next community over, where he had rented an apartment at a high price.
He did all this only to create chances for Evan and Hannah to live alone under the same roof.
After returning to school, Evan had just sat down when Wayne leaned over.
Wayne hooked an arm around Evan's shoulder, his eyes sticky and affectionate enough to make a man uncomfortable.
"Brother Evan, I got you something."
"What?"
Wayne took a black box from his backpack. The packaging looked surprisingly refined.
"Open it."
Evan looked at him suspiciously, then opened the box.
Inside lay a men's mechanical watch.
Evan picked it up and studied it. Although it was a fake luxury watch, the craftsmanship was decent. When he tried it on, it actually gave his wrist a sharp, clean look.
"Not bad. For me?"
"Yeah. Not expensive. Only three hundred."
Wayne scratched his head.
"If it weren't for you, I never could have won back the money I lost. We're brothers, and I didn't know what else to give you, so I bought this."
"Fine. Thanks, brother."
The afternoon class was boring.
Evan either flipped through comics or read web novels on his phone.
Wayne slept on the desk like a dead pig.
In the whole back row, only Wendy listened seriously and took notes.
After school, Hannah called Evan.
Maybe she was guilty. Maybe she was deliberately avoiding him.
She said she was going downtown to eat with a close friend and told Evan to go home by himself.
Evan took Wendy and Wayne to eat casually near the school gate, then took a taxi back.
Because he had drunk the night before and slept badly, Evan entered the house and collapsed straight into bed.
When he woke up, he heard two women chatting in the living room.
One voice was Hannah's.
The other was unfamiliar.
Evan's throat felt dry, so he slipped on his slippers and went out to get water.
The water dispenser happened to be in the living room.
When he walked out, he saw a woman sitting on the leather sofa.
She wore a black lace camisole on top and tight little shorts below. Her pale, full thighs were crossed together, and high-heeled slippers hung from her feet, eye-catching to the point of being unfair.
Her figure was the complete opposite of Hannah's.
Hannah was slender, a thin branch bearing rich fruit.
This woman had more weight and fullness, but she was not fat. She had the lush, mature charm of a woman who knew exactly what effect she had.
"Hannah."
Evan greeted her while holding his cup.
Hannah nodded.
"This is my best friend, Chloe Quinn."
"Hello, Chloe."
Chloe nodded slightly in response.
When she nodded, the astonishing fullness at her chest trembled under the black lace.
To be honest, Chloe had serious capital.
Hannah's face carried the cold elegance of a refined older beauty.
Chloe was more mature, more commanding, with the aura of a woman who could run a business and slap a man in the same breath.
Evan also recognized her.
Chloe was the beautiful owner of the bathhouse he had visited before.
"Evan, come here. Sit down."
Hannah waved at him.
"Didn't you say you could read faces? Help your Chloe here. Look at her and tell her how her business will be in the second half of the year."
Recently, Chloe's business had clearly declined.
The main reason was that a large new entertainment club had opened downtown. It did not only offer baths and saunas. Secretly, it had gambling tables, hostess drinking rooms, karaoke, and all kinds of gray-area services.
That new place had taken a lot of Chloe's customers.
Chloe had felt irritated, so she came to Hannah for dinner and complained over drinks.
"Me?" Evan awkwardly touched his neck. "I'm not a fortune teller. And what I say might not be accurate."
"It's fine. Just look. Treat it as giving Chloe some peace of mind."
While speaking to Evan, Hannah secretly gave him a look.
The meaning was obvious.
Say something nice, brat.
Evan was not stupid. Of course he understood this bit of social skill.
He pulled over a chair and stared seriously at Chloe's face.
For a moment, he actually got absorbed.
Her face was delicate. Although she wore makeup, it was smooth and close to the skin, without the heavy, cheap nightclub feeling.
Chloe felt a little chilled by Evan's direct gaze.
Hannah nudged Evan under the table.
"I'm asking you. Did you see anything?"
"Oh. Right."
Evan returned to himself and cleared his throat.
"It's fine, Chloe. You don't need to worry."
"Although you've run into some setbacks recently, there will be a helpful nobleman in your fortune during the second half of the year. Your business will definitely rise again."
"And that helpful person is someone around you. A man."
Hearing him speak so confidently, Chloe's brows moved.
She quickly ran through the men she knew in her mind.
Could it be that guy?
She only thought about it casually and did not go deep.
After that, the three changed topics and chatted about light gossip.
Meanwhile, in a secluded little grove behind the school, Fiona sat in the passenger seat of a secondhand car, looking at the fairly pretty woman beside her.
"April, last time you said I could work at Victoria. What kind of work exactly?"
April lit a mint cigarette and took a drag.
"Fiona, we're friends, so I won't hide it from you. I work there as a hostess."
"What? That kind of hostess?"
Fiona had always been the kind of girl who messed around at school, but if she was truly asked to sell herself, she did not want to do it.
Mainly, her pride was too high. She could not stand the idea of serving men like that.
"Yes."
April blew out a ring of smoke.
"Fiona, it makes money."
"On a busy night, I only need to take three customers. Three hundred each. That's nine hundred. The club takes half, and I still keep four-fifty."
"Four-fifty a day. Four thousand five hundred in ten days. More than ten thousand a month."
April looked at Fiona and continued tempting her.
"Don't you owe those loan sharks eight thousand? Work twenty days and you'll clear it."
"Last time I owed twenty thousand from gambling. I paid it back this way."
