Chapter 389 - 8 vs 2 (Two-in-One)
The Team Flare executive, the father-daughter thieves hiding in their cloaked ship, and the magician and masked ninja lurking in the shadows—all watched in horror.
Moments later, all eight attacks were unleashed—but every single one immediately veered off course and flew into the distant sky.
"Huh?" Rio’s confident expression faltered. What was happening? Could the Ultimate Weapon really absorb the attacks of eight regional legendary-level Pokémon? That was absurd!
The Team Flare executive, who had been putting on a brave face while trembling inside, was suddenly overjoyed.
"Hahaha! What happened to ’let’s wait and see’?" She gloated. "What now? Sinnoh’s three gods? The Ideal Dragon and the Void Dragon? Those other Pokémon? I told you—as long as the Ultimate Weapon is here, every legendary you summon will be ours to control! We should thank you for delivering them to us!"
"Kneel and beg for mercy now, and I might let you become an asset to Team Flare’s world conquest."
"Wow—Team Flare can suppress that many legendaries? That’s terrifying!" Inside the cloaked ship, the father-daughter thieves were stunned. They had thought the fake Kanto Champion was about to destroy Team Flare—but instead, he was the one about to be destroyed.
"Is Team Flare trying to take over the world? They can suppress all those legendaries?!" A hundred meters away, the masked ninja was shocked.
"What exactly is that Ultimate Weapon? How is it so powerful? That’s Sinnoh’s three gods and Unova’s two legendary dragons!" The magician was equally horrified.
"Kid, what do we do now? Maybe we should run—getting Xerneas to give Diancie its Fairy Aura is no longer realistic." The Great Elder Dai was panicking, ready to flee with the Princess.
Rio frowned, still struggling to understand how the Ultimate Weapon could absorb attacks from Charizard and the others. Did they all need to Mega Evolve—Charizard, Mewtwo, Gengar—and have Kyurem fuse with Zekrom into Dark Kyurem?
"Like I said—kneel and beg for mercy, and I’ll let you join Team Flare. Otherwise, once we capture all these legendaries, you’ll regret it." The Team Flare executive continued to taunt.
But just as she finished speaking, a massive explosion erupted in the distance. Everyone—Rio, the executive, and all the hidden observers—jumped. They turned to see the red beam that had been shooting into the sky collapse. As it dissipated, the three red nets holding Xerneas, Kyurem, and Gengar faded away.
Rio’s eyes lit up. The arrogant executive’s face went pale.
"What—how?! What happened to the Ultimate Weapon?!" She frantically grabbed her communicator—but there was no response.
"What else could it be? It exploded, of course. Your so-called Ultimate Weapon couldn’t handle the power of that many legendary Pokémon." Rio scoffed. He knew it—an ancient human-made weapon shouldn’t have been able to absorb attacks from eight guardian-level legendaries. Its destruction made perfect sense.
The executive gritted her teeth, refusing to accept reality. "You’re lying! The Ultimate Weapon can’t explode! It’s the most powerful weapon in the world!"
"Then why don’t you use it to control these legendaries right now?" Rio raised an eyebrow, his tone smug.
The executive was speechless. At that moment, Old Ghost—now free from the red net—hurled a Shadow Ball in annoyance, knocking out her Druddigon. Kyurem followed with a Dragon Claw, taking down the other Team Flare Pokémon.
"What are you doing?!" The executive and her subordinates were terrified, thinking the legendaries were about to kill them.
"Relax—we’re not here to kill anyone. We’re here for the Pokémon behind you." Rio shifted his gaze from the executive to Xerneas, who was visibly panicking. Four regional guardians above, another nearby, and three more strong Pokémon—if they all ganged up on it, there was no way it could survive.
"Alright, no using our strongest moves, everyone! There’s only one target here—if we beat it too fast, there’ll be nothing left to play with! Anyone who uses a big move sits out the next fight!" Giratina had already started a private chat with Dialga, Palkia, Mewtwo, Charizard, Gengar, Zekrom, and Kyurem, planning the upcoming battle. Everyone agreed.
But just as they were about to strike, a piercing bird cry echoed from afar. They turned to see a crimson bird burst from a deep crater—arrogant, sharp, and radiating menace.
The sight made Dialga, Charizard, and the others pause—and then grin.
"Perfect! This stupid bird came at just the right time! Four of us take the bird, four take the deer below! I’m going after the bird—who’s with me?" Giratina said excitedly.
"I’ll take the deer," Dialga said.
"I’ll take the bird," Palkia said.
Giratina looked at Mewtwo, Charizard, and Zekrom. "I’ll take the bird," Mewtwo said.
"Roooar~" — I’ll take the deer. Charizard roared.
Zekrom glanced between Yveltal and Xerneas, then said: "I’ll take the bird." It had initially wanted Xerneas, but if it chose the deer, it risked being forcibly fused with Kyurem—which it absolutely didn’t want.
"Alright—teams set! Me, Mewtwo, Palkia, and Zekrom take the stupid bird! Gengar, Kyurem, Charizard, and Dialga take the stupid deer!" Giratina announced without asking Gengar or Kyurem for their opinions.
Gengar shot Giratina a glare but didn’t object—it had wanted Xerneas anyway. Kyurem tried to call Zekrom down to fuse, but Zekrom ignored it. When Kyurem tried to force the issue, it saw Gengar already charging at Xerneas and had to follow.
Meanwhile, Yveltal, having just emerged from the crater, was furious. It hated being disturbed during its slumber—anyone who dared to do so would pay with their lives, along with every Pokémon within kilometers.
But as it looked at the Pokémon in the sky—all radiating power comparable to its own—it froze. It recognized three of them: Sinnoh’s Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, along with Unova’s Zekrom. The other two didn’t matter—they weren’t as terrifying as those four.
"Yveltal~!" — Why are you all here?!
Instead of lashing out, Yveltal demanded an explanation.
"What else? We’re here to beat you up." Giratina flew toward Yveltal, a Shadow Ball already forming in its mouth, kicking off the battle.
"This is a complete reversal—just when I thought that guy was done for, Team Flare’s Ultimate Weapon explodes. Now the fake Kanto Champion is back on top, and his Pokémon are ganging up on Xerneas and Yveltal. Are they trying to destroy the Kalos region?!" The father thief Algates exclaimed.
"Dad, should we send this to the Kalos League and get them to send help? A battle at this level could devastate Kalos’s ecosystem." His daughter Milis suggested.
"You’re right—tell them to hurry." Algates agreed.
Soon, footage of Kyurem, Gengar, Charizard, and Dialga ganging up on Xerneas, and Giratina, Palkia, Mewtwo, and Zekrom ganging up on Yveltal, reached the Kalos League’s high officials. Their first reaction was shock—followed by terror. So many legendaries in Kalos was practically an apocalypse. If the battle spread, countless people would die.
In Kalos, Elite Four Malva immediately informed Lysandre, knowing Team Flare’s capture operation was in jeopardy. Lysandre was already in agony—he had learned even earlier that eight Pokémon, including five regional legendaries, were attacking Xerneas and Yveltal, and that the Ultimate Weapon had been destroyed. Years of Team Flare’s effort were gone in an instant.
"It’s over... all our work, gone. My dream of reducing the population is finished." Lysandre slumped in his chair.
News of the Kalos crisis also reached the Kanto region—landing on the phones of Diantha and the other Champions present. Diantha was horrified and wanted to rush back immediately.
But just as she was about to leave, Hoenn Champion Steven spoke up with a puzzled tone: "Those three Pokémon—don’t they look exactly like Mr. Rio’s? Mewtwo, a Shiny Gengar, and a Shiny Charizard."
Everyone turned to look at Zoroark, disguised as Rio.
"Wait—what are you all looking at me for?! You’re not saying I’m responsible for what’s happening in Kalos, are you?!" Zoroark slammed the table in frustration, then threw three Luxury Balls. Mewtwo, Charizard, and Gengar appeared before them.
Seeing that, Diantha’s suspicions vanished. "Mr. Rio, don’t misunderstand—I was just speaking carelessly." Steven quickly explained. "What I meant was, that villainous organization is truly despicable—using your image to stir up trouble everywhere. If we weren’t with you right now, we could easily be fooled."
"Exactly—and they even have a Mewtwo, a Shiny Gengar, and a Shiny Charizard, just like yours." Unova Champion Alder nodded.
"I’m confused too—how did they get a Mewtwo? As far as I know, only I have one." Zoroark, as Rio, sighed deeply. Its acting skills had grown refined.
"I heard Mewtwo was originally created by Team Rocket. If they made one, could they have made a second?" Steven suggested.
"That’s very possible—Giovanni loves doing things like that." Zoroark quickly agreed. Then it slammed the table again. "No—I need to go to Kalos and expose these imposters to clear my name!"
"You’re right—we should head to Kalos immediately. A battle with that many legendaries is a disaster for humanity." Alder agreed.
"Thank you all." Diantha said gratefully. But just as she finished, Rio’s secretary Serīna spoke up: "No—Mr. Rio can’t go. Kanto just suffered an attack. What if Hoenn’s Rayquaza and the others return the moment you leave? And don’t forget—they aren’t in Kalos right now."
