Chapter 308: The Stratagem of Sowing Discord, Mutual Destruction
Chapter 308: Chapter 196: The Stratagem of Sowing Discord, Mutual Destruction
“Hmph. Say whatever you want, I won’t believe you!”
Although doubt had begun to creep into Jing Shu’s heart, this was still how he replied to Bao Mu!
“Since you trust the people around you so much, I’ll have him make his move now!” Bao Mu’s message made Jing Shu tense up.
Just then, one of his subordinates started walking toward him, a rifle slung across his chest.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Jing Shu hurled a Fireball that struck the man square in the face.
The subordinate let out a horrifying scream as he was engulfed in flames!
Seeing this, the others stared at Jing Shu in terror and backed away. They had no idea why he had suddenly gone berserk!
“Hmph, I despise traitors who sell out their own!” Jing Shu said coldly, his gaze sweeping over the men. “Bao Mu just told me there’s a mole among our three speedboats. Our position has been compromised!”
Hearing this, the aide at his side felt his heart clench. He didn’t know if Bao Mu had given him away. But then a thought occurred to him: ‘Jing Shu didn’t kill me on the spot, so I probably haven’t been exposed yet.’
So, he mustered his courage and asked, “Captain, could this be a ploy to sow discord among us?”
Jing Shu shook his head. “He knew our exact escape route and set up an ambush ahead to intercept us. Someone must have tipped them off!”
The aide nodded slightly. “What about that man just now?”
“Hmph. The moment Bao Mu said he was going to have the traitor make a move, that guy just happened to start walking over!” Jing Shu replied.
“Captain, I’m afraid you’ve made a mistake!” The aide frowned and analyzed the situation. “The enemy would have to issue that order via a cell phone. None of our soldiers have cell phones, so how could he have received the command?”
Jing Shu froze, then nodded slowly. “Damn it, I fell for it!”
“To think Bao Mu would resort to psychological warfare!” the aide urged earnestly. “Captain, you mustn’t fall for his tricks!”
“You’re right. I was too quick to panic!” Jing Shu nodded. “Everyone, rest assured, we just need to work together to escape—”
BOOM!
A violent explosion cut Jing Shu’s words short!
“Report! Speedboat Three’s engine has been hit! We can’t keep moving!”
“Report! Speedboat Two’s stern was hit, but we can still move for now!”
“Report! Our port side has been damaged by the explosion! The boat is losing balance!”
Jing Shu could feel the speedboat tilting sharply to one side. He peeked cautiously outside, only to see two more rockets streaking toward his boat and the other one that was still operational, trails of fire in their wake!
“Damn it, they even brought rocket launchers!” Jing Shu cursed, then immediately gave an order. “Evasive maneuvers! Dodge the rockets!”
Perhaps it was due to the pilot’s evasive turns, or perhaps it was the damaged boat’s erratic movements, but the Xi’an Base’s second volley missed its mark!
The aide stood by his side, his brow furrowed. “This might have been Bao Mu’s goal all along. First, he uses information to distract us, then has his speedboats attack us with rocket launchers!”
Jing Shu’s face was grim as he watched the speedboats behind them. “Turn us around,” he ordered. “Keep dodging their rockets, and charge them!”
“What?!” The aide was stunned for a moment. “Captain, are you saying we should fight them head-on?”
“Do you think we have any other choice?” Jing Shu glanced at him and asked in a low voice.
The aide was taken aback once more, but in the end, he could only nod in resignation.
All three of their speedboats had sustained varying degrees of damage, which would certainly affect their speed. The Xi’an Base boats behind them, however, were unscathed. They could easily close the distance and continue attacking with their rocket launchers.
Even though they had just missed, they were bound to hit their target if they kept firing!
Instead of being picked off from a distance, it was better to charge in and close the gap. That way, their own Evolvers could be brought into play!
Seeing Jing Shu actually turn his boat around and charge, James, the captain of the Xi’an Base ambush team, smiled faintly. “Looks like this Jing Shu has some brains after all! Alright, boys, time to get up and stretch your legs!”
A group of burly, incredibly muscular men stepped forward.
“Captain, isn’t deploying so many Evolvers at once a bit of an overreaction?” one of the team members asked nonchalantly.
“The higher-ups just want to ensure there are no mistakes. Nobody wants another Evolver watching them from the shadows!” James said in a low voice. “So this time, we have to make sure none of them get away!”
“Yes, sir!” the men replied in unison.
Qin Haonan’s group, which had been following from a distance, hastily pulled back even further when they saw rockets being fired from the other set of speedboats.
“Chief, are you here yet?” Qin Haonan immediately reported to Ren Yuanyang. “It looks like the Xi’an Base has caught up. They seem to be using rocket launchers!”
Hearing this, Ren Yuanyang immediately warned, “Then you all need to be extra careful!”
“Understood!” Qin Haonan replied.
“We’re about twenty minutes out!” Ren Yuanyang continued. “Don’t get close to them until we arrive. Let them soften each other up first!”
“Yes, sir!”
As Jing Shu decided to charge the enemy, the Xi’an Base team stopped using their rocket launchers and simply waited for them to approach!
‘They seem pretty confident!’ Jing Shu narrowed his eyes. ‘Then let’s see what you’ve really got!’
Just as Jing Shu thought the enemy was about to engage them in close-quarters combat, the Xi’an Base team suddenly started throwing a barrage of grenades.
