Chapter 593: Mentor Assessment
Chapter 593: Chapter 591: Mentor Assessment
Led by the middle-aged man, Mu Qingqing headed down the corridor on the left.
After walking for a short while,
they arrived at a spacious, open area where many young men and women were gathered.
“Those taking the Zhengyang Palace assessment, over here.”
“For the Chuyang Tower assessment, come to me.”
Two Holy Academy Tutors were shouting.
“The assessments for Zhengyang Palace and Chuyang Tower are both held here?”
Mu Qingqing was puzzled.
“That’s right. Go on now.”
After bringing Mu Qingqing here, the middle-aged man returned to his post.
‘Then what was that place Brother Luo went to?’
A question surfaced in Mu Qingqing’s mind.
“The place your Brother Luo went to is the mentor qualification assessment area.”
The cold-faced man’s voice suddenly came from behind her.
“You tricked Brother Luo?”
Realizing this, Mu Qingqing’s pretty face puffed up with anger as she glared furiously at the cold-faced man.
“What did I lie about? I never said that was the student assessment area. I just told him not to walk with me.”
The cold-faced man said dismissively.
In reality, he was ecstatic.
He had only intended to play a little trick on Luo Tian but hadn’t expected him to be so gullible. Luo Tian had fallen right into his trap.
“Hahaha, if you waste your chance to take the assessment, you can’t retake it.”
The cold-faced man burst out laughing.
‘Luo Tian is so stupid! Even if he managed to sneak in, my little trick was enough to make him waste his chance to take the assessment!’
Thinking of this,
the cold-faced man felt a wave of satisfaction and decided to tell Li Quan about it.
…
Luo Tian walked into a large hall. It was rather quiet, with only a few staff members inside.
“I’m here for the assessment.”
Luo Tian walked forward.
The few staff members looked up at Luo Tian, their faces a mixture of astonishment and suspicion.
“You’re so young. Are you sure you’re here for the assessment?”
An exceptionally beautiful and elegant woman confirmed with Luo Tian again.
Luo Tian’s eyes lit up, and he said seriously, “I’m sure.”
‘Isn’t it better to be younger when taking an assessment?’
“Follow me!”
The woman led Luo Tian through the hall to a small, private room.
The room was dimly lit, containing only a table and a chair.
“Please sit. This is your test paper. You have the time it takes for two incense sticks to burn. A score of eighty or higher is required to pass.”
After saying this, the woman closed the door and waited outside.
“A written test?”
Luo Tian found it strange.
He had taken many assessments before, but this was the first time he had to complete a written test.
‘The Wuji Saint Institute really is one of a kind.’
Luo Tian sat down and began to look over the test paper.
The first question required Luo Tian to identify the errors in a cultivation mantra.
‘This is a bit difficult!’
Luo Tian frowned in thought.
After a long while, he finished his answer and moved on to the second question.
The second question described a Martial Artist who had encountered a problem during their Cultivation and asked how to solve it.
‘This is so difficult?’
The second question was much harder than the first.
‘No wonder the passing rate for the Wuji Saint Institute assessment is so low. Even talented students would have to rack their brains to answer these questions.’
‘Getting a score of over eighty is truly no easy task.’
‘Forget it…’
Luo Tian sighed, and his consciousness entered the Celestial Book World.
He simply presented the questions from the test, and the Celestial Book provided the perfect answers.
Just like that,
Luo Tian finished answering the questions on the paper in a flash.
‘Something’s not quite right…’
Luo Tian looked at the questions again.
One question was about how to resolve conflicts that arise between students.
‘You have to be tested on this to enter the Wuji Saint Institute? Is it to make students understand each other and reduce conflicts and fighting?’
Luo Tian was speechless.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
Having finished the test, Luo Tian knocked on the door.
“So fast?”
The woman outside was a little surprised.
When she had taken this assessment, it had taken her twice as long, and she had scored eighty-six points.
The woman opened the door and collected the test paper.
She gave Luo Tian a few extra glances. ‘Did he not finish at all? Is he just here to mess around?’
“Next is the second test, the martial assessment!”
The woman continued.
Luo Tian nodded. A martial test was more normal.
Just as the two returned to the main hall, a middle-aged man walked over. Seeing the woman, he broke into an eager smile. “Shuiyun, are you in charge of the mentor assessment today?”
“Is there something you need, Master Liu?”
“Shuiyun, I’m here for the promotion assessment. Could I trouble you to administer it for me?”
The middle-aged man said very politely.
‘Promotion assessment?’
Luo Tian’s eyes fixed on the man.
Every branch of the Wuji Saint Institute had a Chuyang Tower, a Zhengyang Palace, and a Jiaoyang Hall.
These could be understood as beginner, intermediate, and advanced divisions.
When students believed they were ready to advance, they could take an assessment to be promoted.
Jiaoyang Hall was the ultimate goal for every student in the Wuji Saint Institute!
‘I can’t believe I’d run into a genius here for a promotion assessment while taking my own.’
‘Wait, that’s not right…’
Luo Tian’s eyes widened. This “genius” seemed a bit old—he was already middle-aged.
“Master Liu has only been teaching for three years and is already taking the promotion assessment. If he succeeds, his promotion speed will rank among the very top in the entire Wuji Saint Institute.”
The woman, Ye Shuiyun, revealed a faint smile.
“Mentor?”
Luo Tian exclaimed in surprise.
The middle-aged Master Liu looked at Luo Tian, frowning in surprise. “Such a young mentor?”
Luo Tian, slightly embarrassed, said to Ye Shuiyun, “I took the wrong assessment. Can I take the correct one?”
“No.”
Ye Shuiyun shook her head. She was now even more convinced that Luo Tian was just here to mess around and wasn’t taking the assessment seriously at all.
Seeing this, Master Liu’s face filled with disdain.
‘Taking the assessment is just a pretense. He’s probably using this as an opportunity to hit on Shuiyun!’
Ye Shuiyun was very young, devastatingly beautiful, and had an extraordinary background. Many of the male mentors were pursuing her.
Master Liu himself also had his eye on Ye Shuiyun.
‘That bastard.’
Luo Tian’s expression turned slightly angry.
He was completely unfamiliar with the Wuji Saint Institute’s assessment procedures and had been tricked by the cold-faced man.
‘Well, since I’m already here, I might as well see it through…’
Luo Tian sighed.
If he gave up now, he would lose his eligibility to enter the Wuji Saint Institute.
Luo Tian decided to go through with the “mentor’s martial assessment.”
‘As long as I pass the written and martial tests, I can still get into the Wuji Saint Institute. It’s just… my status will be a problem…’
“The mentor’s martial assessment is no simple matter. You can get injured if you’re not careful. Are you sure?”
Ye Shuiyun remained silent, but Master Liu spoke up arrogantly.
“I’m sure!”
Luo Tian’s expression was resolute.
“Follow me!”
Ye Shuiyun led the way.
Master Liu followed along as well.
「A short while later.」
The three of them arrived at a silvery forest.
Looking closer, they saw it wasn’t a forest at all. All the “trees” were composed of swords and sabers, glinting with a biting cold light!
“Sword and Saber Forest, activate!”
Ye Shuiyun took out a Token and activated it.
BUZZ!
A stream of multi-colored light shot out from the Token and flew into the Sword and Saber Forest.
Immediately after, a great rumbling sound came from the entire Sword and Saber Forest.
WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH!
The silver trees, forged from swords and sabers, began to spin and move left and right at extreme speeds.
“The Sword and Saber Forest was set up by an Advanced Tutor of the Wuji Saint Institute who specializes in Arrays!”
“You must reach the center of the Sword and Saber Forest within thirty breaths, leave a Palm Seal on a stone stele, and then return!”
Ye Shuiyun explained to Luo Tian.
“You can observe for a while first.”
She added.
The Sword and Saber Forest contained the mysteries of an Array.
This stage tested a mentor’s perception, Body Technique speed, and strength.
As long as Luo Tian could discern the Array’s pattern, his Body Technique was up to standard, and his strength was sufficient to leave a Palm Seal on the stele, he would pass.
“Kid, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Know your limits. If you try to act tough, this Sword and Saber Forest will slice you into mincemeat!”
Master Liu said with the air of a senior.
‘In his eyes, Luo Tian was just pulling some kind of stunt to get Ye Shuiyun’s attention.’
‘He had to expose Luo Tian’s scheme.’
‘What business did a wet-behind-the-ears kid like Luo Tian have getting involved with a beautiful mentor like Ye Shuiyun?’
Luo Tian didn’t reply and stepped directly into the Sword and Saber Forest.
Ye Shuiyun’s expression showed a trace of alarm.
‘Luo Tian hadn’t observed the Sword and Saber Forest carefully at all, and there were other hidden dangers inside!’
‘If he rushed in so rashly, the outcome would be tragic!’
She was about to warn him, but then she remembered that she was an examiner now and had to be fair and impartial, so she said nothing.
“Haha, this kid really is fearless!”
Master Liu couldn’t help but laugh.
‘By the stone stele in the center of the Sword and Saber Forest, there’s a powerful puppet with the strength of the Celestial Pool Realm Third Layer!’
When Master Liu had taken this test, he had almost been injured by that puppet and nearly failed.
‘But Luo Tian hadn’t observed carefully and didn’t even know about the puppet’s existence. He was doomed to fail the assessment!’
Master Liu and Ye Shuiyun flew high into the air to get a better view of the martial assessment.
SWISH!
Luo Tian’s figure moved like smoke, swift and agile, weaving through the rapidly moving Sword and Saber Forest.
Incomparably sharp, cold blades flashed from all directions, yet none could touch him as he casually dodged them.
In less than five breaths!
Luo Tian had already penetrated deep into the Sword and Saber Forest, only thirty meters away from the stone stele at its core!
‘Such a fast Body Technique!’
The thought surfaced in both Ye Shuiyun’s and Master Liu’s minds.
Luo Tian obviously didn’t know the pattern of the Sword and Saber Forest. To maintain such speed under these circumstances, the mastery of his Body Technique was unimaginable!
Just then, Luo Tian saw the stone stele at the center of the Sword and Saber Forest!
The stele was forty to fifty meters tall and extremely imposing. Many Palm Seals, some deep and some shallow, were already imprinted on it.
‘I just need to leave one Palm Seal!’
Luo Tian quickly approached.
Suddenly!
A silver puppet appeared behind Luo Tian, holding a sword and a saber.
‘He’s finished!’
A smirk appeared on Master Liu’s face.
‘Luo Tian’s luck was terrible; he just happened to be ambushed by the puppet!’
Ye Shuiyun hovered in the air, gazing intently into the Sword and Saber Forest, ready to stop the martial assessment at any moment.
She saw Luo Tian suddenly spin around, his expression calm, and strike like lightning!
Luo Tian’s hands burst with a golden radiance, directly clashing with the puppet’s sword and saber Attack!
CLANG! CLANG!
Luo Tian’s palms repelled the puppet’s Attack and slid along its arms!
CLANG! SNAP!
With a sharp sound of breaking metal, Luo Tian’s hands chopped down on the puppet’s arm joints, severing both of its arms.
Then, Luo Tian struck out with his palm, leaving a deep dent in the silver puppet’s chest.
The puppet flew back dozens of meters and crashed into the Sword and Saber Forest, where it was instantly dismembered.
‘I might have been a bit too rough…’
Luo Tian paid it no mind, approached the stele, and struck it with his palm.
Without a backward glance,
Luo Tian rushed back into the Sword and Saber Forest, emerging just a few breaths later.
Martial assessment time: fourteen breaths!
