Chapter 50: Oily face
Jark leaned in. Kathe’s scent overwhelmed him, like he was hypnotized.
"Nice, flawless skin."
His breath tickled Kathe’s back. Her knees went weak before she could fall completely.
Jark wrapped his hands around her waist.
"Steady," he whispered directly into her ear.
Kathe felt a lump in her throat as she tried to protest.
"Maybe this should just last for a little moment, even if it is not real."
Just as they were lost in their own world, the door was pushed open without warning.
"Boss, I have checked..."
Thompson was left shocked by the scene right before him.
Kathe quickly wrestled away from Jark’s grip, running back to the changing room.
Unlike Kathe, Jark was more composed as he turned to look at Thompson with a frown. His aura darkened. Thompson had to step back a little.
"Boss, I..."
Jark didn’t wait for his explanation as he cut him halfway.
"Next time, knock on the door. What if she was without clothes?"
At the thought of that, a murderous aura emitted from him, making Thompson shrink backward in fear.
"I’m sorry. I just wanted to give you the information on what you asked me to check. I didn’t mean to interrupt anything."
Thompson quickly explained himself, afraid and not wanting to get punished.
Jark frowned at his last words, but his gaze had already softened, returning back to normal.
"You didn’t interrupt anything. You can share your report."
Thompson sighed with relief, approaching his boss as they both discussed the matter.
Meanwhile, inside the changing room, Kathe kept slapping her cheeks as she remembered the nasty thought she had. She couldn’t help but get angry at Jark. If not that he had seduced her on purpose, she wouldn’t have had such nasty thoughts.
She needed to calm her racing heart. Luckily, the washroom was attached to the changing room. She rushed in, splashing cold water on her face to come back to reality, and it worked. Her burning face returned to normal.
Not able to keep her frustration in check, she let out a curse.
"You sneaky fool, Jark."
Meanwhile, Jark’s left eye kept itching. He frowned in discomfort.
Thompson, noticing the change in his boss’s expression, was about to step back as his mind kept wondering if he had made a mistake in his report.
Surprisingly, Jark waved at him.
"It’s okay."
"Did I make any mistake?"
"No. Get the car to the entrance."
"Okay."
He replied as he walked out of the room.
Jark was about to pick up the magazine again when the changing room opened again, and Kathe stepped out, back in her clothes.
Jark eyed the red dress that was in her hands in confusion.
"That’s all you need?"
"Yes. It’s just one dinner party, not my honeymoon."
Her words were meant to hurt Jark.
But instead, it was Kathe who was left frustrated as Jark strolled out of the room without any expression on his face.
They spent five minutes in the mall as Kathe shopped for matching accessories that would match her dress.
After some minutes of walking around, they decided to wrap up the shopping. It was getting late, and they needed to catch up with their lunch plan.
As they were about to walk past the watch section, Kathe glanced back at the shelf where she had seen the necklace, but surprisingly, the shelf was empty.
Kathe’s eyes narrowed slightly into a frown. She was sure that it was just the two of them in the mall, so who could have taken it?
"You need to walk fast. I don’t want to have lunch by dinner time," Jark teased as he watched her stare at the shelf.
Kathe rolled her eyes internally at him.
"Since when did you care about your food schedule?"
Jark was about to refute, but seeing that he had nothing against her, he increased his footsteps.
Kathe, seeing the increase in his pace, had to run after him.
Jark smirked to himself, satisfied that he got back at her.
The drive to the restaurant was filled with tension, each of them with their own furious thoughts.
She couldn’t help but remember how the man had seduced her back in the waiting room, and she had fallen for it like a local pumpkin.
Jark couldn’t help but feel frustrated with himself. He had only wanted to tease her a little but ended up stirring something within him.
He was very sure of his self-control. He didn’t expect it to come crumbling down in a second at the very moment he saw her exposed back and the natural floral scent that filled his nose.
Thompson threw a glance back. Seeing the two people in such quiet tension, he was sure that it was due to Grandma or him. Maybe something had happened between them, prompting the silence.
"Mrs. Kathe, what dress did you end up picking?"
"Just a regular dress."
"There will be business tycoons there too. You shouldn’t have chosen a regular dress."
Just as he was speaking, the hairs at the back of his neck suddenly stood up. Without turning his head, he knew that his words might have offended the boss. He quickly changed his tone.
"Hehehehe... You don’t have to mind me. You can dress in whatever you feel comfortable with."
As soon as he finished, the killing instinct disappeared without a trace, making Thompson breathe out in relief.
Unknown to Thompson, his careless words had already made Kathe think twice about her dress. Though she found the dress alluring, it was just like any ordinary dress. It lacked details. Thinking back, she would have picked more than one dress.
Thompson turned again, this time to Jark.
"Boss, which restaurant should we go to?"
Since Kathe was not familiar with the city, he turned to look at Jark.
Jark turned to look at Kathe, who was lost in thought, remembering how she always got excited about Chinese food.
"Chou Zoe Clause."
Thompson nodded at him as he turned to the driver, giving him the right address.
The tension that was in the car started to fade off. Thompson and Jark were engrossed in business talk, with Kathe leaning in to grasp a few words. She was already Jark’s personal assistant. She still needed to learn a few things from them.
The car suddenly stopped, catching their attention.
"Boss, we are here."
"Hmmm."
"You both can continue the business talk. I will go order our food."
Thompson was about to get excited when he met Jark’s glare.
"Ma’am, I’m not hungry. I had eaten while you were out shopping with the boss."
Thompson forced out a bitter smile.
Kathe didn’t think much of it and turned to Jark.
"Oh, that means I will only order our meal then."
He nodded at her.
She walked out of the car.
She was about to walk inside the restaurant when the security guard suddenly stopped her, his face full of disdain.
"Another beggar trying to sneak in."
At first, Kathe thought he wanted to search her, but she realized that wasn’t the case as someone walked past her and got inside.
Kathe raised her eyebrow at him in a questioning manner.
Just when she was about to speak, two couples walked past her, and the security guard moved aside for them. They walked in, leaving Kathe confused.
"Why am I the only one being stopped?"
The security guard sized her up, and seeing that she was not even wearing a single designer outfit, he sneered.
"We don’t allow the poor in. Unfortunately, our restaurant doesn’t run a charity."
Kathe wasn’t naive. She could already grasp what the security guard was trying to do.
"What do you mean by that?"
Her patience was already running out.
Just then, another couple walked past her. The lady, seeing that Kathe was arguing with the security guard, decided to join the fun.
Feigning ignorance, she walked toward the security guard.
"What is going on?"
"Nothing. I was just reminding her that we don’t run a charity foundation here."
The security guard turned to look at her.
She sized Kathe up and down. Indeed, she wasn’t in a designer dress, but her beauty was mesmerizing.
"Poor girl, were you trying to use your pretty face to get in?"
The security guard, hearing the lady’s words, looked at Kathe with disgust as he understood the lady’s hint. She was trying to use her beauty to seduce some men inside. Luckily, he had stopped her.
"Young ladies of this age have no shame."
The security guard spat out in disgust.
Kathe wasn’t interested in the lady’s words. She could hear the malice in her voice. She was only furious at the arrogant security guard.
"What do you mean? Is this how you treat your customers?"
The lady, feeling ignored, sneered.
"Hmph, she has no shame trying to act all high and mighty."
The man who was walking with the lady walked out, eyeing Kathe. He couldn’t help but become mesmerized by her pure beauty.
"If you had just admitted your mistake willingly, I wouldn’t have minded taking you inside with me. But I can still consider you."
His words only made the lady even angrier.
Kathe turned to look at the man with disgust. She wasn’t expecting someone of his age to have such thoughts.
"Are you all crazy or what? You need to check your oily face in the mirror first before you consider taunting a lady and making false assumptions."
"Hmph, you want to act all mighty? Then there is another way for you to go in. Show the security guard your silver pass, then you can go in."
"Silver pass?"
Kathe frowned in confusion.
The crowd all burst out laughing.
The oily man adjusted his suit with pride.
"Turns out she doesn’t even have one. But no worries, I can help you. If you fall on your knees and apologize, I will consider letting you walk inside with me. You can take that as your last chance."
Just when Kathe was about to erupt in anger, a clear, angelic voice sounded behind them.
"Why should she consider your disgusting chance?"
They all turned to look at the person. Even Kathe had to turn to look at the person who wanted to stand up for her.
