Genesis Sync

As she finished speaking, John's vision went dark before he suddenly found himself standing on grass in the centre of a clearing. Surrounding the clear where countless trees, which indicated that he was in the middle of a forest; the clearing was empty except for a male human who was asleep on the grass while a hat covering his face, protecting it from the sun's glare.

As he looked around, a notification window suddenly appeared before him.

[You have discovered the Forest of Dawn.]

{Forest of Dawn? Isn’t that the forest that's supposed to be where Dawnscape City is in the real world?} John thought as he turned around.

As he did so, the man seemed to realise someone was nearby and so sat up, causing the hat to fall from his face before he stretched and yawned before looking to see who just arrived.

"Huh?" He said in a surprised tone, seeing John. "What are you doing out here alone, kid?"

"I’m looking for Starter Village," John politely replied. Could you point me in the direction?”

"Starter Village? Never heard of a village named Starter; but Dawn Village is right over there." The man replied, pointing over his shoulder with his thumb.

"Are you not supposed to guide me or something?" John asked.

"Why would I need to guide you? I’ve already pointed you in the direction of the village,” The man replied before lying back down and covering his face with his hat again.

“Guess I’m on my own,” John mumbled.

“Right you are, kid,” The man replied.

John shook his head before he headed off in the direction the man had indicated. {I figured I would be sent directly into the village. I wonder why new players arrive in the clearing.}

Along the way, John recalled some of the information Sarah had told him while they where travling to Eclipse City. It wasn’t much, just some basic common knowledge that everyone knew, but he lacked the knowledge of.

"Status," John said, after which a window appeared in front of him displaying his character status.

John looked over his very basic and ordinary starter stats and remembered he was told that players got 1 point in SPI, WIS, STR, INT and VIT for each level up.

The calculations for Genesis were rather simple (because the author sucks at maths)

1 point in SPI gave 20 HP.

1 Point in WIS gave 10 MP

There were some other factors in the game, such as elemental resistances, but Sarah hadn’t had time to go into everything and so he was still lacking much in the knowledge department.

"Gear,” John said, causing another window to open that showed a three-dimensional representation of him and what he was wearing. A line connected each piece of his gear to information boxes on either side of the representation where the details were displayed.

"Well, at least I am not naked," John mumbled before saying. "Inventory."

A square window appeared featuring multiple little square tiles, all of which were empty except for two. One of them contained what looked like bread with a small number five in the bottom left-hand corner, while the other contained what looked like a bottle of water, also with a small number five.

John tried selecting the bread and as he did so, the small tile increased in size and displayed the contents information.

After reading the information and confirming that it was indeed bread, John tried swiping the new window away and it disappeared before he next selected the tile containing what looked like water.

After confirming that this was indeed water, he swiped this window away before noticing a word and number in the bottom right corner of the window.

"Well, I’m broke again,” John grumbled before adding, “At least I won't starve or die of thirst though.”

By this time John had finished checking everything; he had reached the edge of the clearing and saw a small path leading further into the forest. He surmised it would be better to follow the path than walk aimlessly through the forest, especially when he didn’t have a weapon.

As he walked through the forest, he heard the sounds of the branches and twigs swaying in the wind and the sound of animals running around while birds sang up above. Rays of light filtered through the canopy above now and again.

As he passed by a stream, he looked to the side to see a deer drinking water before he carried on down the path. {I can’t believe how realistic it all is. I’ve heard countless people comment about it, but the magic involved to cast the world-encompassing spell must have been ridiculous.}

John noticed he seemed to be heading downstream since he was following the flow of water, and soon he started to hear noises in the distance: people shouting, children crying, a hammer hitting what sounded like metal.

As he rounded a corner in the path, the trees opened up to reveal another clearing; however, this one was far bigger and not at all empty like the first one. A small village sat nestled in the clearing with several dozen buildings, most of them were single-story; however, one or two were two or even three stories high.

As John approached the village entrance, he could tell that the two individuals stationed on either side of the entrance were guards that where dealing with some sort of merchant who carried a large bag on his back.

One of the guards looked towards John before saying, "Be with you in a moment, lad."

Turning back to the merchant, the guard said, "Alright, James, everything checks out; welcome back to Dawn."

"Thanks very much, David. Make sure to drop by the tavern later so I can buy you both a drink." The merchant said before proceeding into the village.

"Well, now, lad, you hear for training?” The first guard, who seemed to be named David, asked.

"Got ya letter of introduction?" The other guard asked

"Err, no," John replied. {Letter of introduction, no one said anything about a letter of introduction?}

"Hmm, well that's a conundrum then, we can't just let anyone in, can we, Daniel?” David asked with a smirk.

“That we can’t, David,” Daniel replied.

There was silence for a moment as the two guards stared at John with small smiles on their faces. John opened his mouth to say something when a high-pitched voice suddenly came from behind the pair of guards. "Oi, are you two brothers causing trouble again?"

After which a female Kitsuni with long black hair, bright blue eyes, ears atop her head and five black tails with grey stripes passed through the open gate and stopped in front of the pair and frowned at them. “Are you trying to scam another adventure?”

"Scam? We don’t scam adventures,” David said defensively

"No, not real adventures, just trainees,” The Kitsuni lady retorted. “You pair of stupid brothers waste hours of their time by making them walk to and from the tavern with beers for the pair of you.”

“Damn it, Sajiko. Why’d you have to go spoil our fun? You know it’s the only sort of entertainment we get around here.”

“Hmph,” Sajiko replied before ignoring the pair and turning to John. “Wow, don’t you have such a fine figure for one so young.”

“Stop flirting with the newbie, Lynn,” David remarked.

“Shut it,” Sajiko snapped.

“Err, thanks,” John said in surprise.

“Hmm,” Sajiko replied as she turned back to him and inspected him more closely while her five tails lazily swung behind her.

“Is there a problem?” John asked while leaning back slightly.

"Your magic aura- why is it so powerful?” Sajiko asked. “I’ve never met a human with such a strong aura before. I mean, it's even greater than some elves I’ve met."

"Magic aura? What does that mean?" John asked in confusion

"Your magical power is too strong for a human is more in line with an elf; however, the feeling it gives off is completely different from the elves," Sajiko explained. “It makes no sense.”

"The feeling?" John asked, tilting his head as his confusion increased.

"As a person matures, the body starts to absorb the ambient mana in the air around them to build its mana circuits." Sajiko began to explain. "This is why it takes so many years before a body is strong enough to perform magic, if someone even has a mana root in them in the first place, which not all people do.

The ambient mana that is absorbed by the body takes on the traits and feelings of the location the person grew up in as well as their experiences. Or at least that's according to the books I’ve read."
