Chapter 499: Nina Scott is Missing
"I don’t want to get married, but you’re still forcing me. Is there no justice in this world? How is this any different from back in the feudal era when people sold their own daughters?"
"How much have you cared for me over the years? How much have you loved me? What gives you the right to make my decisions and control my life?" Nina Scott shouted, arguing directly with her mother.
And of course, Yara Scott was there fanning the flames. "Nina, how can you not understand Mom’s good intentions? She’s only doing this for your own good. She wouldn’t hurt you, would she?"
Hearing Yara’s words made Mrs. Scott even more annoyed with Nina Scott.
"Someone, lock her up and watch her closely. Don’t you dare let her out before her wedding!"
"What do you mean by this? Are you trying to illegally imprison me?"
Mrs. Scott was completely cold. "How can you call it imprisonment when it’s your own family? You’re just home, that’s all. We’ll let you out when you’ve come to your senses, when it’s time for the wedding."
A servant of the Scott family came forward, snatched Nina Scott’s phone, and forced her back into her room.
Nina Scott pounded on the door. "Let me out! Let me out!"
Mrs. Scott felt not a shred of compassion. Even hearing Nina Scott’s screams, she remained unmoved. In her eyes, Nina was just a disobedient, rebellious child.
Yara was delighted. ’Let’s see what Nina Scott does now!’

Nina Scott was locked in her room. It was on the third floor, so she couldn’t jump. Besides, security guards were patrolling outside. Even if she did jump, they would know immediately.
She truly despised the Scotts. Why did they have to use the excuse of "family" to tie her down? Why did they have to force her like this?
She didn’t want to get married at all. She didn’t want to marry that kind of person.
’I will never submit to their arrangements. I’ve always believed I’m the master of my own fate. I will escape.’

Every day, Old Master Mercer urged Miles Mercer to find Nina Scott, claiming he couldn’t eat or sleep well without a granddaughter-in-law. Miles knew his grandfather was doing it on purpose, but it was also true that there had been no news from Nina for two days.
Miles Mercer called Nina Scott, but no one ever answered.
He tried several more times, but her phone was off.
Miles Mercer frowned. ’Why is her phone off?’
Miles Mercer also called Ivy Sherwood. "Ivy, can you get in touch with Nina Scott?"
"Nina?" Ivy Sherwood hadn’t really been paying attention lately; she had been very busy herself.
Ivy Sherwood said, "I’ll give her a call."
"I already tried. Her phone’s off."
"I see. I’ll go check her studio."
Ivy Sherwood went to Nina Scott’s studio but didn’t find her. The people at the studio said they hadn’t seen her since the day before. There was some work that needed her attention, but she wasn’t responding to their messages.
Ivy Sherwood’s heart sank. ’Could something have happened to Nina?’
Ivy Sherwood then went to Nina Scott’s apartment, only to find no one there either. She was certain now that something had happened to Nina.
She called Seth Scott. He picked up quickly, his voice filled with surprise and delight. "Nina? I can’t believe you’re calling me."
Ivy Sherwood’s voice was frantic. "Seth, have you seen Nina these past two days?"
"No, I’ve been busy with work and haven’t been back home. What’s wrong with Nina?"
"I can’t get in touch with her. I’m looking for her now."
"Then I’ll help look, too." Seth Scott immediately dropped what he was doing.
’What could have happened to Nina? The only recent issue was the Scott family forcing her to get married, which she refused to do. Who knows if the Scotts did something... I have to go to the Scott residence.’
Ivy Sherwood told Miles Mercer, who immediately said, "I’ll go with you."
"Brother, why are you so eager?"
Miles Mercer looked awkward. "If something happens to that woman, Grandpa will skin me alive. I’m not doing this for her, I’m doing it for Grandpa."
Ivy Sherwood said, "Alright then, let’s go together!"
Ivy Sherwood and Miles Mercer drove straight to the Scott family residence but were stopped at the gate.
Ivy Sherwood, holding a gift, said, "We’re here to visit Mr. Scott."
"What’s your name?" the security guard asked.
"Ivy Sherwood."
The guard made a phone call and quickly returned.
"I’m sorry, Mr. Scott isn’t home."
"Mrs. Scott should be home, right? We’ll visit Mrs. Scott then."
"Sorry, Mrs. Scott isn’t here either." The tone was clearly a rejection. Ivy figured they had to be home; they just didn’t want to see her.
Ivy Sherwood called Seth Scott and handed the phone to the security guard. After taking the call, the guard sounded troubled. "Young Master, the madam said not to see them and to send them away."
"Let them in." Seth Scott’s words were a command, and besides, he was the future head of the family.
After weighing his options, the guard let them in.
Ivy Sherwood walked right into the Scott house. When Mrs. Scott saw her, she was a little flustered. "How did you get in? Didn’t I tell them not to let you in?"
"Where is Nina?" Ivy Sherwood’s eyes were cold. Seeing Mrs. Scott’s reaction, she knew this had something to do with her.
"How should I know where she is? Who do you think you are, daring to barge into our Scott residence? And you," she jabbed a finger toward Miles, "you pauper. Have you never seen a house this nice before? No matter what, Nina Scott is still a Scott. She’s been pampered since birth. Do you think you’re worthy of her?"
Mrs. Scott’s eyes were filled with disdain as she continued her tirade. "You’re just a toad lusting after a swan. You’re only with her for our family’s money, aren’t you? Let me tell you, Nina Scott won’t get a single penny from the Scott family!"
Ivy Sherwood grew angry listening to this. "I don’t know what misunderstanding you have about my brother, but you know exactly how you feel about Nina. You’re forcing her to marry not for her happiness, but to use her for your own gain, right?"
"She’s your daughter! You carried her, you gave birth to her. How can you be so cruel to her!" Ivy Sherwood simply couldn’t understand.
She was a mother now herself. She knew what it felt like to have a child; how could anyone be so cold to their own daughter?
"How am I being cruel to her? She’s the one who’s a disappointment. She’s so stubborn and makes us angry every day. If she were even half as good as Yara, I’d have nothing to worry about," Mrs. Scott added in a passive-aggressive tone, implying Nina was inferior to Yara.
Ivy Sherwood laughed coldly. "You don’t understand her at all. Nina has made her own achievements in the world without relying on you for anything. She should be your pride, not your disgrace. But you wouldn’t understand any of this. Where is Nina now? If you don’t tell me, I’m calling the police!"
"Get out! Get out!" Mrs. Scott moved to shove Ivy Sherwood, but Miles Mercer pulled her away.
"Let’s not waste words," Miles said. "I’m giving you one chance. Where is Nina Scott?" Though he usually seemed nonchalant, his entire demeanor had shifted. When he got serious, his aura was overwhelming—sharp, imposing, and utterly terrifying.
No one from the Mercer family was ever to be underestimated.
