Chapter 48: Teaching My Wife How to Cook
Lucien had no choice but to finish the entire food under Seraphina’s watchful gaze. At least for no reason, he didn’t want her to know how her food actually tasted.
If it was before, he wouldn’t have cared, but now...
As he forced down the last bite with sheer willpower, a system notification suddenly appeared, catching him off guard.
Ding!
[Host has tasted and eaten his wife’s bad cooking and behaved like a good husband. You are rewarded with Master Chef experience and skills, and 1 Random Gacha Ticket.]
The sudden notification surprised him, but seeing that aside from the Gacha Ticket, there was another reward, Master Chef Experience and Skills.
He was genuinely taken aback.
As he accepted the rewards, he felt as if he had become a seasoned cook. One should know that Lucien had never stepped foot in the kitchen because of his frail body.
Before he could continue processing his thoughts, Seraphina had already given him another serving of the food.
He felt like crying. Meanwhile, Seraphina remained completely oblivious to the shift in his expression.
"It seems I can cook for Mom and Dad," Seraphina whispered. Her words shook him to the very core.
There was no way he was going to allow his parents to eat this... Or should he?
There was no way only he would be the only one to taste such food. But if his parents ate this, it would lower the impression they had of her.
One important attribute a lady must have as a wife was the ability to cook.
"Well, you can’t be the only one cooking. Let’s cook it together, as husband and wife," Lucien suggested with a bright smile.
"Really?" Seraphina looked at Lucien, her eyes shimmering with joy. Does he really want to cook with her?
Everything just felt so smooth, as if God was finally answering her prayers. How long had she dreamed and waited for this moment? The thought of her and her darling doing things together made her feel like she was floating in heaven.
But for a brief moment, doubt crept in. How could Lucien behave like this so easily? It felt too good to be true. Was this just a dream?
Lucien faltered for a moment, completely unaware that she had grown suspicious of his sudden change in behavior.
With lightning speed, she grabbed a spoonful of the food. By the time Lucien realized what she was doing and tried to stop her, it was already too late.
Seraphina put the spoon into her mouth, expecting to taste the sweetness Lucien had claimed.
But the instant her tongue came in contact with the food, she immediately spat it out.
"What rubbish is this?" she said in disgust, completely forgetting that she was the one who had cooked the rubbish in the first place.
Lucien scratched his head, realizing he had been caught red-handed.
The realization slowly sank into Seraphina’s mind, her food wasn’t sweet at all. Her gaze turned to Lucien, her eyes narrowing. "You tricked me."
Lucien was speechless. He didn’t know how to reply. What could he possibly say?
But when he looked at Seraphina’s expression, he saw something unexpected. She wasn’t angry as he had anticipated.
She moved closer, her voice soft and laced with concern. "Are you okay? How could you eat such a thing? Did it do any damage to your body?"
She punched him lightly on the chest with a fake angry expression, but her eyes betrayed her true emotions, a mixture of delight, worry, and something tender.
Lucien stared at her, utterly confused. She had a delighted expression, yet a worried gaze, and beneath it all, something soft and warm. What was happening?
What he didn’t know was that Seraphina’s heart had softened at the realization that he had eaten her terrible cooking despite how bad it tasted, all to protect her feelings. The thought alone made her heart feel like it was soaring in the ninth heaven.
He remained completely unaware of this, still trying to decipher her incomprehensible behavior. Just moments ago, she had been like a devil who would stop at nothing to claim him. But now, she was like an angel whose warmth he wanted to bask in.
What had changed?
Knowing that the food was nothing but trash, Seraphina didn’t allow him to eat another bite. She took the remaining dishes and disposed of them without hesitation, her expression a mixture of embarrassment and frustration.
"If you want, I can teach you how to cook," Lucien proposed, his voice gentle.
"Really?" Seraphina jumped in excitement, her golden hair bouncing with the movement.
Lucien nodded at her, a warm smile spreading across his face. "If you want to learn it now, I can teach you how."
With his newly gained cooking experience, it was time to show off a bit, even though he didn’t quite understand why he felt the urge to do so. Perhaps it was the way her eyes lit up, or the genuine joy that radiated from her when he offered.
"Then let’s go," Seraphina said, grabbing his hand and dragging him toward the kitchen.
Lucien smiled and allowed himself to be pulled along.
The kitchen was simple yet well-kept, with a wooden counter at its center and a hearth crackling softly in the corner. Pots and pans hung neatly on the walls, and the faint aroma of herbs lingered in the air. Sunlight streamed through a small window, casting a warm glow across the room.
Lucien looked around. He had never been here before in his life. It felt strange and familiar at the same time. This wasn’t the kitchen the clan chef used, but a smaller one built by his parents for their own use.
"Now for the etiquette," Lucien said as both he and Seraphina tied on their aprons, a basic courtesy in any kitchen.
Lucien gathered the utensils and ingredients he would need, moving with surprising confidence. Seraphina stood at the side, apron tied neatly around her waist, watching him with rapt attention. At this moment, Lucien exuded a different kind of charm, one she hadn’t seen before.
"Watch as your husband cooks the best food you will ever eat," Lucien said, flashing her a confident smile.
Seraphina let out a soft giggle, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
