Chapter 47: My Wife’s Cooking is....
"Darling, what are you doing? What are you pressing in the air?"
The voice came as a shock to Lucien. His body froze. He hadn’t sensed her approach at all, clearly too engrossed with the System interface to notice her presence.
"Is there something here?" Seraphina waved her hands before Lucien, thinking perhaps there was something invisible that she simply couldn’t see.
But confusion flickered across her face when she felt nothing. "You just keep clicking the air as if there’s something here... or did I see wrong?"
Lucien finally regained his composure and offered a warm smile. "You might have seen wrong. I was just stretching my fingers in the air."
He let out a soft chuckle as he scratched the back of his head, hoping his excuse was convincing enough.
"Really?" Seraphina kept her gaze fixed on him, her eyes searching for any hint of deception. Lucien continued to smile and nodded, maintaining his composure despite the growing unease in his chest.
After a long, tense moment, she finally relented. Even though she was suspicious, there was no evidence to support her doubts. And what could Lucien possibly be doing with such strange actions anyway?
Or wait... was he communicating with another lady?
For a moment, her gaze turned cold and obsessive as she fixed her eyes on Lucien. He noticed the sudden shift in her emotions, the subtle hardening of her features, the flicker of something dark and possessive in her eyes, but he was utterly confused by it.
If he had heard her thoughts, he would have coughed in sheer shock. How did her mind possibly jump to that conclusion?
After a few seconds, she shook her head and a gentle smile returned to her lips. "Now that you have woken up, I guess it’s time to put something in your stomach."
Lucien nodded, relief flooding through him. He loved this situation, now he would be able to escape the awkward predicament he had been caught in.
They both walked out of his room. Lucien looked at the familiar corridors and hallways he had walked through for seventeen years. The sight brought back memories, some happy, and some he would rather forget.
He had returned, even though not by choice. Not as trash this time, but as a genius. Even if hidden.
They made their way to the dining room. A large table dominated the space, surrounded by rows of wooden chairs that followed in orderly fashion. Though they appeared ordinary, the materials they were crafted from were anything but.
Lucien glanced around but didn’t see his father and mother’s figures. Confusion flickered across his face.
"Where’s Mum and Dad?" he asked Seraphina.
"They said they are busy with something," Seraphina replied.
Lucien frowned. He didn’t think they were actually busy. Looking at Seraphina, who was already serving the dishes of his food, he realized they might have given both of them space.
He shook his head and let out a soft chuckle. He then took his seat at the chair where the food had been served.
A familiar sight from his past life greeted him, rice with fragrant spices and nutritious meat.
After seeing this, he turned to Seraphina. "I guess you cooked this."
Seraphina smiled and nodded, delight flickering in her eyes. She was pleased that Lucien had recognized her work.
"But how did you know?" she asked as she completed serving the dishes, including the side ones.
Lucien let out a low chuckle. "Why wouldn’t I know? Isn’t this a familiar dish from our past? And who else in the mansion can cook like this?"
"Yeah, that’s true," Seraphina said, her smile widening.
Lucien picked up his cutlery, gazing at the food that looked presentable and inviting. "This is the first time I am tasting your food in both our lives."
"Thanks for the food," he continued, as he dipped his spoon into the dish. It was time to eat.
Even though he felt no urge of hunger, his tongue craved the taste. It had been long since he had eaten something truly good.
He put a spoonful of rice into his mouth. But the moment his tongue came in contact with the food, his entire body froze.
The taste sent him straight to the pit of hell.
Lucien paused. There was no way he was eating this food. What abomination was this?
The food clearly looked good, tantalizing even. So why didn’t it follow the script? It was supposed to be delicious, but instead, he felt like he was eating trash. To be brutally honest.
"How is it, darling?" Seraphina’s voice came through to Lucien, who was desperately thinking of a way to vomit it out without her noticing.
Lucien had no choice but to continue chewing. With a forced smile plastered across his face, he replied, "It’s delicious. I didn’t expect that you could cook like this."
His smile was uglier than crying. In their past life, Seraphina was known as a cold person before she became obsessed with his looks, and then it had tangled into something else entirely. But he had never expected that this would be her first time cooking, and that it would be this terrible. Did she truly have no talent for cooking?
"Is that true?" Seraphina’s eyes widened in surprise. "Wow, let me taste it."
She stretched out her hand, clearly wanting to taste the food herself, surprised that it was as sweet as Lucien claimed.
Lucien’s hands moved quicker than lightning as he hugged the dishes protectively.
Seraphina blinked in confusion. "Was it that sweet?" she questioned.
"Of course! I’m eating all of it without giving you any," Lucien said proudly. Meanwhile, internally, he was crying out in agony as he chewed and swallowed another bite.
Seraphina chuckled, a warm smile spreading across her face. "I didn’t expect that you would like my food that much. It seems I’m a natural-born cook. There’s more in the pot, you can eat to your satisfaction."
Her words struck like thunder in Lucien’s mind. "I think this is enough," he said quickly. "I want to store the rest to eat another time. Such food mustn’t be eaten quickly, you have to savor it."
"Nah, you have to eat it when it’s hot and freshly cooked, that’s when you can truly enjoy it. If you need more, I can just cook some more for you," Seraphina replied cheerfully, completely oblivious to the internal war raging within him.
Lucien felt he had fallen from heaven to hell as he continued to survive this hellish food. He watched as Seraphina laughed, clearly excited that she could cook this well.
Looking at her actions, which seemed so childish as her golden hair waved with her puffed cheeks, he let out a laugh.
It was cute, watching her like this.
"What happened? Why are you laughing?" Seraphina asked, surprised by why he was laughing while looking at her face.
"Your actions look so cute," Lucien unconsciously blurted out.
His words made Seraphina’s entire face turn red. Lucien felt surprised when he saw her like this. A Yandere could behave like this? He was genuinely caught off guard.
"Your face is all red. It seems you aren’t as strong as I thought," Lucien teased.
Seraphina’s face turned even redder, the tips of her ears burning crimson. "Well, this is the first time you are calling me this," she said in a whisper.
But her words made Lucien pause. Had he truly never said this, even though this beauty had been beside him for years?
